wonderful food, casual surroundings

we had the chance to stop in again at brian's 24 here in the san diego gaslamp district, and, we were happy to see the food and the amazing portions have remained the same. the omelet we had included 6 eggs with lots of good ingredients, and, with the side of pancakes is more than enough food for two people. cost with tip and tax was under 20 dollars. service was great. we will go back. if you find this information helpful please click the link below to let us know.

delicious fluffy buttermilk pancakes. ordered the short stack and they were 2 huge pancakes. also ordered a side of house potatoes which were very bland and would not recommend. friendly staff. definitely worth it just for the pancakes.

after a 30 hour long flight from melbourne to san diego, brian was the only place open at 1 am that served food. ordered the chicken salad and it was not only healthy but surprisingly delish and heart warming.

brian's 24 is located in the historic st. james hotel in the gaslamp quarter. brian's does not lack accolades, so i stopped by to see for myself what all the fuss was about. we sat outside on the patio to enjoy the san diego weather and struck up a conversation with some folks from l.a. who had stopped in to try a dessert. let's just say i didn't leave room for dessert.

the first thing you notice as you walk up to brian's is that historic gaslamp feel. the beautiful hotel lobby features a bar and dining area that really takes you back in time. the ambiance is exactly what you are looking for when dining on comfort food. there is a grand, hand-crafted mahogany bar (obtained from actress joan crawford's estate), a beautiful crystal chandelier and a tin ceiling.

i know brian's 24 is famous for their breakfasts, but i like to try a little bit of everything. so, we ordered the pizza tots and a couple of local craft beers, a perfect combo. oddly enough, tater tots go really well with melted mozzarella cheese and chopped pepperoni, then smothered in a rich, delicious, house-made marinara sauce. imagine that! the heaping mound of tots made me nervous about what was to come. the portions were huge!

now for the famous breakfast that i had heard so much about! we ordered the chicken and waffles and krab cake benedict. growing up in houston, i have had my fair share of chicken and waffles, so i was really excited to try them at brian's. i had never tried krab cakes benedict, but it sounded too good to pass up.

the fried chicken was served with wonderful fluffy belgian waffles, creamy butter and warm syrup. the crispy fried chicken had an abundance of flavor from the special seasoning. the sweet syrup, mixed with the waffles, after the saltiness of the chicken brought me back to a special place i call home. you must not walk down 6th avenue without stopping in brian's to find out exactly what i mean!

we ordered a stack of butter milk pancakes, because what breakfast is complete without them, right? needless to say, with the krab cake benedict on its way i was being very careful to save room in my stomach. the krab cake benedict reminded me of a dish right off bourbon street. delicious golden brown crab cakes and two poached eggs served on a split english muffin and topped with a creamy hollandaise sauce. the combination of crispy krab cakes and flavorful hollandaise sauce worked really well. if you are fan of krab cakes, you must try this dish. morning, noon or night!

brian’s 24, downtown’s beloved 24-hour diner, is known for giving customers anything they want, anytime they want it…. even if that includes out-of-the-box concoctions! this gaslamp novelty has rolled out a peanut burger that is too unique to be ignored. the burger, made with a 1/2 lb. patty, topped with creamy peanut butter, bacon and american cheese, combines two american classics into one crazy-good meal.

a beloved american-diner tradition is making a comeback. having started in diners across america in the 1920s, the “blue plate special” became a treasured, hearty menu staple, rooted in tradition. now local eatery, brian’s 24, is bringing back the time-honored menu with their own “blue plate specials” starting this week!  you’ll want to grab a fork and embrace the flavor of this classic comfort food right here in san diego.

had the krab cake benedict and it was amazing. the service was good. the only two things i didn't like was it was a little pricey and my potatoes were cold. i didn't say anything because the krab cake benedict was so good.

i’m extremely happy we visited brian’s 24 when we were in san diego.  everything was pretty awesome (minus the cost of the coffee and the super weird tasting chocolate chip pancake) but aside from that, it was definitely worth trying!  if you’re in the gaslap district, make your way here! tags: bacon buttermilk buttermilk hotcakes buttermilk pancakes chocolate chocolate chip hotcakes eggs fluffy hickory smoked bacon home fries hot cakes hotcakes links mega breakfast pancakes powdered sugar sausage links sausage patties thick sliced hickory smoked bacon toast whipped cream comments are closed. --> next post di fara pizza | midwood, brooklyn, ny di fara pizza | midwood, brooklyn, ny tags bacon burgers cake
