chardon pas d'or. friday night. dinner for four. restaurant not very busy.
food good, not great. large lump of fat in lasagne & ham hough starter which made us all wary of what was to follow.
service chaotic from the start.
waited far too long for drinks to arrive other than water.
waited far too long for food order to be taken.
ordered bottle of veuve clicquot which did not arrive. on asking what happened to the champagne i was advised that they did not have any. (nobody had thought to tell us this or suggest an alternative).
house champagne was recommended but returned as it could strip paint.
had to request pouring ofwinetwice before it happened.
further alarm was raised when waiter asked how the duck should be cooked. i have only been eating food for 62 years but, i have always believed that there is only one way to cook duck......medium rare.....unless you're american.
overall, not up to the hype that the glasgow media spew out to us about this restaurant. was not the special experience that we expected. not in any hurry to return. better and cheaper eateries are plentiful in glasgow, in my opinion.

waste yourself at lunchtime... again booked 5pm menu for lunch. greast lunch menu at £18.00 per head all the fine dining that you would expect you got at a fraction of the price. not a quick eat or cheap by other standards but this place stands alone for its quality. chef even came out for achat and made our meal.

a touch of class!!. fine dining, silver service and even a smile from chef!! just had a fabulous night at chardon d'or. scallops cooked to perfection, also brian made an "extra" of monkfish which was beautifully presented and very tasty prior to 2 well portioned cuts of steak and lamb. one day i might even be able to eat a dessert!! you always feel special and fussed over but not in a pushy way during a visit. also i recommend his monthly cooking demonstrations and lunch as a day out with a difference or a treat for someone even if you do not consider yourself a gordon ramsay, or sorry brian maule in the kitchen!! definately glasgows top restaraunt

fantastic food unfortunately terrible service. went there last night and we ordered celeriac soup, crisp lamb, roast scottish beef and braised scotch beef. i would like to stress to the service that we received which was terrible. we order a bottle of redwinebut we need to ask them to fill up our emptywineglasses and our water glasses. i don't think it's acceptable for them to not noticing customer's table. and afterwards, when we want to leave, the waiter gave our coats, etc but he didn't notice that my fleece was on the floor-he just leaved and my husband had to picked it up for me. i think he needs to be trained properly or is it because we are asian?

good. first time at this restaurant, a lovely tastefully decorated dining room and close by the new blythswood hotel- which offers pretty good cocktails if you want a pre or post dinner drink.

the food was generally of a very high standard, well presented and cooked perfectly. the scallop starter was particularly enjoyable- juicy and excellently accompanied by a sharp pesto. a few dishes, including the swordfish and crème brulee, whilst perfectly nice perhaps lacked the depth of flavour one would expect at a restaurant of this level.

thewinelist is certainly certainly adequate- with a good variety of mainly french offerings. however it does not compete in size with other comparable restaurants in glasgow and only three reds and three whites are offered by the glass.

service was very friendly- good balance of conversation without being intrusive. however the drinks were not always topped up as quickly as would have been liked. it did take a rather long time to get the food ordered- however as we were in no rush this was not a problem.

all in all, an enjoyable experience and certainly worth trying. however, i don't think that this is the 'best restaurant in glasgow.'
