don't waste your money!. recently bob's steak & chop house opened one of their restaurants here grapevine. for months i drove by the place on main street next to highway 114. the parking lot is routinely full and the reputation of its other location(s) is from i've heard excellent. the only negative comments i had heard was that is was on the pricey side.

for my 26th wedding anniversary i thought i would take my wife somewhere new, bob's steak & chop house.

to get to the point, i made a big mistake.

when making my reservation a month in advance, i was told that they had a strict requirement on showing up early so as to be seated on time. if we showed up late, we would lose our reservation. there was also a limit on the time we could have the table. no problem it's a small place and i can understand them wanting to serve as many people as possible.

days before and even the day of my reservation the restaurant called to confirm everything. i said yes and believed that everything was set for an exciting evening.

when we got there we were told that there was about a 15 minute wait for our table. i went to the bar and ordered the wife and i a drink. no problem at this point.

as we drank our drink, the people kept coming in the door. it got to the point where the line extended out the door and what was supposed to be 15 minutes turned into about a hour wait.

when we asked how much longer we were told that they were just seating 8:00 reservations at 9:30. what????

the wife and i decided to try and go somewhere else before it got too much later.

in the car we went to kirbys and trulucks in southlake. sorry no seats. as a last resort we drove back to a place we had never tried in grapevine, silver fox.

the wife and i were greeted at the door and told please come in and we were promptly seated. the service and food turned out to be incredible. a perfect ending to what had been a terrible beginning.

the next day i called to complain about our experience at bob's. the owner's son told me that they had made the mistake and overbooked thinking that alot of no shows would happen. to make up for it he sent a $100 gift certificate to use whenever we wanted.

a couple of weeks later the wife and i went back to give them a second chance. my second mistake. the food was less than what i expected for the money.

so if you're in the area, trulucks and salt grass are better all around places to eat. the food is excellent!

kirbys is not bad either but do not order off the nightly specials menu. portion sizes are extremely small and you will leave hungry. however if you order the cowboy steak off the regular menu, it is a great value and excellent steak.

thumbs down on bob's (slop house)

one of my sons had been to bob's steak & chop house and raved about it. i wanted to surprise my husband with a night out for his birthday but nervous about risking going to a new place for such a big event, but i'm not kidding you, the food from appetizers to the steaks to the dessert were superb. and our servers could not have been nicer or more helpful. we have definitely added bob's to our "favorites" list!

although had a fabulous meal and service in the restaurant, will never go back to this location because of the terrible valet service. three times i was asked the make and model of my vehicle and after the third time was told to ‘calm down’ by the lead (bald caucasian made with dark glasses) valet. although the one who found my vehicle was very nice and refused the ‘tip’. upon arriving home i realize they still had my house keys and had to drive back at which point i was again berated my the lead valet who indicated he was fully aware they were in possession of the non-vehicle keys) kept them, requiring a return trip. what kind of establishment allows this kind of treatment of its customers?

we went on a thursday evening and got right in. we were promptly seated and our drink orders were taken efficiently. after 10 minutes we finally received them. we ordered water as well and that didn’t come until the meal did. our salads were passable—the lettuce wasn’t as cold and crisp as it should have been, given the price point for this establishment. i ordered the chops and my wife had the bone in sirloin. my chops were done perfectly and the sirloin was spot on. some of the sides could have been hotter.
overall, it was acceptable but given the cost, i was underwhelmed. kirby’s is a better choice.

i had a good steak here while in dallas. the staff is very helpful and friendly. the steak i had was pretty good and everyone that was with me enjoyed their meal. we ate there in the evening and the lighting was so dark i almost had to use my cell phone flashlight to read the menu, but that made for a nice comforting atmosphere. i would eat there again.

we came here for a celebratory dinner and bob's did not disappoint. the glazed carrot and pickled peppers on the table were the highlights for me. they are small touches that makes bob's special. you obviously need to order steak and i recommend the skillet fried potatoes as a side. my only complaint is against zomato! the average cost for 2 people is way off. my husband and i had a glass of wine each(house wine), an appetizer and steaks with no dessert or extra sides and our tab was very close to $150. the meal was definitely worth the price but i felt mislead by this website.

it was an amazing day in grapvine – ice at the gaylord, main street, and now bob’s chop house!

om: i have only been to bob’s chop house once, and it was the dallas location years ago. first off, this place was beautifully decorated for christmas, and i would go so far to say that this is the most wonderful i’ve seen a restaurant around this time of year. garland, ornaments, and lights everywhere! the bread was a large round loaf with plain butter, which is fine with me. we also ordered three onion rings – the waitress gave us an option to order as many as we wanted and just charge us per ring. cool! they were very good, had crunchy batter and good taste. maybe top 3 that i’ve had? i also tried some beef soup which was outstanding. it’s like someone slow roasted rib meat and added that to bean soup. my main course was a filet, chips, and their famous glazed carrot. the filet was a little tough, i’ve had better, but it was still tasty. if i could order 20 glazed carrots and make that my meal i would, yummy. the chips were not totally chips…maybe a little thicker? doesn’t matter, they were awesome. there is one thing that almost ruined the night, and that was the table about 15 feet away from us. it was a bunch of mid-40 looking guys clearly reliving the past. drinking, loud cursing, and no regard for those sitting in the area. management seemed hesitant to do anything about it, which was very disappointing. our waitress took everything in stride and was solid the entire night. anyhoo, the food was above average but not excellent, but the décor was something to see. i would go back around the holidays, but would be open to trying other similar restaurants during the non-christmas season.

nom: i have never been to a bob’s chop house before my handsome love took us at christmas! they had really gone all out decorating the restaurant! absolutely beautiful!! i always give our favorite italian place props at the holiday but holy cow!!! this was amazing…even if you don’t just love steak find a reason to check them out! we started with bread and it was just your standard bread and butter, which i really like! we also ordered three, yes you can by their onion rings individually, onion rings which were really good. they are the thick coated huge variety! my handsome love had some beef barely soup instead of a salad and it was very tasty! i could have eaten a bowl of soup and a few onion rings and been satisfied! i had the ribeye steak and i always expect it to be well marbled and kind of fatty, which is what i like in steak, but this one was super lean for a ribeye. it was very flavorful but not as tender as i would have liked for sure. still it was tasty and our waitress was super nice and helpful. i have to add that she was quite the trooper…she had to serve what i call “glory days”. you know…boys night out. drunk, loud and entertaining for about 20 minutes until that fateful moment you hear one of them talking about how happy their wife is…aside from glory days the restaurant was really something to see. oh and when you go make sure you try the fruit sours on your way out!

we hadn't been to the bob's chophouse on lemmon in quite some time, due primarily to the fact that the one in grapevine is so close to our home, but this location is just as good. our steaks were perfectly cooked and served hot and delicious. i love the big carrot, marinated in orange juice and cuttable with a fork. baked potatoes are always ample here compared to so many places that put a pint sized version on the plate. the bread is hot and fresh, as was the spinach salad we enjoyed before the steaks arrived.

there is a good choice of additional sides to pick from, we chose the mushrooms to compliment our filets. my wife had the 9oz and i chose the 12oz version. we did not leave hungry, as a matter fact... took a little leftover in a doggie bag.

our only complaint may have been that they seated us very near the bar and it was loud, actually very difficult to carry on a conversation with 8 in our group. i wish we would have requested a table in a more quiet area as these were friends we hadn't seen in a good bit of time. my fault... i'm sure all i had to do was ask. nonetheless, it did not deter from the enjoyment of the food or service.

my opinion is that bob's is one of the better steak houses in the dfw area. we've been to several as there are many to choose from in the dfw area, but bob's is the one we return to most often. maybe it is that carrot!

i've been hitting up bob's on lemon for years now. worth every penny. i just don't get steaks like this anywhere else(even other bob's). don't know what it is, but it is off the charts. seriously, i dream about this place, weird.
