during our stay in savanah, we decided to eat at the boar's head grill and tavern. what a great place! located right on the river in an old warehouse. the stone walls and views of the river were a great atmosphere. my wife and i had to get theshrimpand grits. we also got a side of grilled vegetables that were well prepared. the kids went with stuffedshrimpand pasta. we started with a crab cake. everything was great. the crab cake was not as good as some i have eaten in maryland, but it was good in its own right. plenty of crab. the sauce for theshrimpin my plate was outstanding. the grits were good, but not as good as those i had at skillet. service was very good. prices reflected that we were in a touristy location. i would definitely come back - would love to try this place at lunchtime.

we love this place and visit it every time we get to savannah.  my wife is "the queen ofshrimp& grits" and she swears these are her favorite anywhere.  i love em' as well.  it's got a great bar.  it's got a great lunch menu.  it's got great waiters and waitresses.  it's in a really cool space.  there is nothing about this place i dislike.  if you want a great meal in savannah without as long of a wait then try boar's head.

our last meal in savanbah after a week here. the best meal we've had. our waitress, amber, gave us excellent advice and helped with us with some incredible menu selections. theshrimp& scallops primavera was awesome as was the chicken salad sandwich with mustard coleslaw which was a taste sensation. try the dark and stormy cocktail!
this restaurant is a must when in savannah!

great meal, historic atmosphere. don't know what happened to those who had a bad experience. maybe we were just lucky since we came in the sweltering september heat and the crowds were down. hardly a soul at lunch on a friday.
we had a pleasant, although somewhat inexperienced waitress. failed to tell us about the specials. another table told us to get theshrimpand grits and it was out of this world. our friends hadshrimpand it was done perfectly.
of the dining experiences on river street, this was the best.

boar's head grill & tavern. in town for the holidays with family, my brother suggested boar's head, which i had not eaten in since forever. this place does not change much, and if you want history, this is a good chunk of it. this place has been here as long as i can remember. prices are mostly reasonable, especially for their dinner menu.

start off with the fried green tomatoes or the bbqshrimp– both are great. if you like soups, the she crab is probably the best i have ever eaten. i also like their grilled chicken caesar salad and spinach salad.

for our dinners, my partner loved the double lamb chops. he said they were excellent. get the basmati rice, he says. i ordered the low countryshrimpand grits, which i have had before and is one of my favorite dishes. these are most excellent, especially with the cajun spicy butter, which is just right. my brother ordered the fried shrimp, which he said were perfect, as always. he said the baked potato here is one of the best he has ever eaten.

it's hit and miss. good location, good atmosphere, so-so food and so-so service. theshrimpand cheesy grits were very good. the blackened tilapia sandwich not so special, bread seemed a little old, fries were greasy. sandwich came with either fries or coleslaw, but waiter was in a hurry and didn't ask what side we wanted or give us a chance to say anything. wait staff acted disinterested.

a most pleasant dining experience. we had a wonderful lunch in this most pleasant restaurant. the ambiance is fantastic - old, well appointed, great art work - history here. our table looked over the hard working river so we enjoyed seeing all of the barges with their cargo cruising past. we had not gotten together with our dining companions in years and had just met when we entered the restaurant so we were very engaged in conversation. our excellent waiter was so kind and did not make us feel rushed at all. they were not real busy so the table wasn't needed but, he let us visit, brought us drinks, took our pictures etc.

and, the food and drink were excellent. we started out with the bbq bacon wrappedshrimpwhich was cooked to perfection. two of us had friedshrimp- cooked well, seasoned nicely and a huge portion. my companion had theshrimpand grits which he really liked, but had nothing to compare them with as this was his first experience with this most southern dish. i had the chicken sandwich which was wonderful - again, cooked to perfection. the kitchen knows what it's doing! our waiter was wonderful, and the restaurant itself is located right on the river walk . you will not be disappointed if you dine here.

hidden gem!. my wife and i spent an entire week in savannah for our honeymoon and ate at many wonderful places. one night in the middle of our stay we did not have reservations anywhere so we ducked into the boar's head w/ no expectations and we walked out surprised, pleased, and full! the interior is true to its title. it is very tavern-like but the food was prepared with eloquence that i did not expect. my wife had the low countryshrimpand grits while i had the bouillabaisse both of these dish were exceptional, but i have to say that the bouillabaisse was a step above. it was without a doubt the best i have had. if you are in savannah and looking for a great meal without the pretense of some other high end spots, step into the boar's head.
