during our stay in savanah, we decided to eat at the boar'sheadgrill and tavern. what a great place! located right on the river in an old warehouse. the stone walls and views of the river were a great atmosphere. my wife and i had to get the shrimp and grits. we also got a side of grilled vegetables that were well prepared. the kids went with stuffed shrimp and pasta. we started with a crab cake. everything was great. the crab cake was not as good as some i have eaten in maryland, but it was good in its own right. plenty of crab. the sauce for the shrimp in my plate was outstanding. the grits were good, but not as good as those i had at skillet. service was very good. prices reflected that we were in a touristy location. i would definitely come back - would love to try this place at lunchtime.

2 perfect fish entrees. after a week of unseasonably cold weather for savannah, we ventured down to river st to try out boar'sheadgrill and tavern. it has a delightful and warm ambiance with stone and brick walls and wide plank floors.

our server, jeremy, was professional, knowledgeable and friendly and made us right at home. even though it was restaurant week (3 courses for $30), we decided to make our choices from their normal menu. we started with cheesy soft grits with blackened shrimp. then i had their grouper and tim had the flounder special. both entrees were magnificent and perfectly cooked and seasoned. we enjoyed a great bottle of william hill chardonnay and enjoyed our view of the river.

the bar looks like a perfect place for a 12:30pm sunday bloody mary :)

we will be back and are grateful to terri simpson for telling us about this long time favorite savannah spot!

boar'sheadgrill & tavern. in town for the holidays with family, my brother suggested boar's head, which i had not eaten in since forever. this place does not change much, and if you want history, this is a good chunk of it. this place has been here as long as i can remember. prices are mostly reasonable, especially for their dinner menu.

start off with the fried green tomatoes or the bbq shrimp – both are great. if you like soups, the she crab is probably the best i have ever eaten. i also like their grilled chicken caesar salad and spinach salad.

for our dinners, my partner loved the double lamb chops. he said they were excellent. get the basmati rice, he says. i ordered the low country shrimp and grits, which i have had before and is one of my favorite dishes. these are most excellent, especially with the cajun spicy butter, which is just right. my brother ordered the fried shrimp, which he said were perfect, as always. he said the baked potato here is one of the best he has ever eaten.

my husband and i went here on our anniversary trip to savannah. i'm gluten free and struggled to find restaurants that were ok, but the boarsheadwas great and emailed me several options ahead of time. my waitress was also so nice and helpful. i ordered the low country bouillabaisse with a side of potatoes since the rice had a pasta mixed in. it was so good! we finished the meal with the flourless chocolate cake and coffee to go. this was a great place with a great atmosphere and great service!

hidden gem!. my wife and i spent an entire week in savannah for our honeymoon and ate at many wonderful places. one night in the middle of our stay we did not have reservations anywhere so we ducked into the boar'sheadw/ no expectations and we walked out surprised, pleased, and full! the interior is true to its title. it is very tavern-like but the food was prepared with eloquence that i did not expect. my wife had the low country shrimp and grits while i had the bouillabaisse both of these dish were exceptional, but i have to say that the bouillabaisse was a step above. it was without a doubt the best i have had. if you are in savannah and looking for a great meal without the pretense of some other high end spots, step into the boar's head.
