a diamond in the rough. i almost don't want to write a fabulous review about this place....because i don't want everyone else to find out about it and take over! from the outside, took my mom there for mother's day and we pulled up and she goes "really?!". we stepped inside only to be transported to a fun and bright atmosphere. pleasantly greeted immediately, even though they were clearly very busy. service was fabulous and food came out quickly! i enjoyed the chipotle pulled pork sweet potato hash, which was just awesome. a little greasy when you got to the bottom of the bowl, but still delish. also, the lemonade is so refreshing and not too strong. my mom enjoyed the smoked salmon and avocado eggs benny, and they were delightful. hollandaise sauce was not too heavy and complimented the meal instead of weighing it down. would highly highly recommend this lovely diner to anyone. note, it's super busy and will require awaitunless you arrive early, or are a two-some. enjoy!

a good breakfast - but, could have been a great brakfast. quite awaitto get seated for brunch on a saturday afternoon. once seated our server was friendly and attentive. he was also most apologetic when i ordered a cafe lallte. apparently, although breakfast and brunches are a huge part of their business, the blue star doesn't have an espresso machine.they do however have a full bar. i just don't see the reasoning behind this thought process. i had a very delicious huevos rancheros, but my enjoyment was compromised. so, i like it, but i have reservations (no pun intended).

i will not go to blue star diner again. i went there in the late morning (sunday). thewaitonly ended up being about 10 minutes as opposed to the estimated 30. however, when the server refilled my coffee, it splashed on my white coat. when she left, i saw that it was also spilled on the table around my coffee. she didn't even seem to notice. my buttermilk pancakes were unappetizing although i ordered it with bananas instead of berries. the maple syrup did not taste like maple syrup, which wasn't as good. i've come before for late dinner, and they had stars hanging from the ceiling that time. there were no stars this time, so it didn't look as nice because it lacked character. it was also much busier, and too noisy.

the chorizo burger and fries are amazing. hands down one of the best burgers i've ever eaten. the restaurant is small, so expect a bit of awaitand in my experience for this reason they haven't been able to accommodate a larger group.

went for brunch and we had the huevos. it was really tasty however on the menu it said that it comes with refried beans but we just got normal whole beans. can'twaitto try other dishes on the menu.

great little place. expect awaitas it is usually busy, except at dinner time. both the breakfast and the lunch menus are good. fresh quality ingredients that they buy locally. the staff have always been friendly and helpful.

this place makes me want to move to calgary.  my wife and i had breakfast here before we left town last week.  i had the brisket and grits while she had the breakfast burrito.  both were perfect.  i love the fact that they have the basic breakfast dishes here but also something different.  the last time i visited, i had the special....sweet potato, pulled pork and chorizo hash.  very tasty and memorable.  i noticed on the menu this time fried chicken and pancakes.  can'twaitfor my next trip west in order to give it a try.  i also love the fact that they serve coffee in real mugs to customers waiting for tables.  regina breakfast restaurants take note.... this is how it is done.

came for dinner yesterday. on a thursday evening at 7:30 we had towaitfor a table so this place was bumping. my friend ordered the brisket and grits and gave a positive review. my bacon cheeseburger was good but not worth $20 (maybe a side salad + fries?). the $7.50 pint i had was only 16 oz. service was great.

overall, will return, but can find better value elsewhere.

take a drive down the main drag of calgary’s trendy bridgeland neighbourhood on a weekend morning, and you’ll most certainly see a group of brunch lovers waiting for a table at a little whitewashed cafe. while it isn’t as miniature as its sister restaurant, dairy lane, blue star diner‘s cozy interior isn’t big enough to accommodate the ten am saturday crowd that shows up in search of the restaurant’s delicious fare. as these patient diners know, though, thewaitis well worth it.

love blue star for breakfast, brunch or lunch. super cute atmosphere! they get super busy so be prepared towaitit out for a bit. the staff is awesome and attentive from when you arrive to leaving so even while waiting you can enjoy a nice coffee. family friendly environment with local food! another one of my many staples in calgary!

my wife, daughter and myself went for  an early afternoon drive to seek out a breakfast place, my daughter suggested the blue star, i had never been but both the girls have, we had towaitto be be seated, but not to long and the staff were constantly checking with us to see if we would want anything, after about 20 minutes we were seated at a table for two with three seats, which i did not mind, however it was a bit cramped, the girls ordered the pancakes and eggs benny, i had the eggs over with sausage. thewaitwas maybe on the long side, but the food was good, arrived hot and the server was very able, as we were served, the table beside us left and we were able to spread out, the place is nice and warm with a rustic feel to it, its small but not really tight like some other diners around, ii was pleasently surprized and i will certainly come back for a shot at dinner, there was nothing super standoutish but it was all good and we had a good time

i have been a regular here for the past few years as they have a very good selection of gluten free items. up until recently my biggest complaint would have been thewaittime to get a table as it is not a big place and it could get quite busy. lately however and the reason for my poor review, is that i have had to send the last 3 out of 4 meals back, twice due to undercooked meat and once for forgetting to make my meal gluten free (it is not a preference for me but due to being celiac). the first time the hamburger was undercooked they apologized and even gave up a gift card for another visit, . the last time the gave us $3 off the bill and gave us attitude making us feel like somehow it was our fault that the meat was undercooked. i will say there hasn't been a line up in the visits we have made since the beginning of january and that there has been a big staff turnover for some reason. definitely slipping. i won't return, i can get a $22 burger cooked properly elsewhere.

love this place! went here for the first time for brunch, thewaitis not bad at all compared to other brunch restaurants. service was good and food was great had the pulled pork eggs benny.. will definitely come back!

blue star diner is a solid place for brunch/lunch, assuming you arrive early enough not towaitin line... but even if you have to, you'll love the food. they have new items regularly on their menu so you can always try something new, they work with local producers and with mealshare: you buy a meal, they give one to those in need.
during one of my last visits, i had the lamb burger (picture - review on blog) - alberta lamb, gull valley tomato, fresh spinach, red onion, feta, tzatziki sauce & red pepper mayo, pickle... not the usual burger eh? definitely give this place a try!
