blue star diner

nothing worth comingbackfor. with all the breakfast diners already existing and coming out in calgary, this one doesn't stand out in any way in the least. i've been there a few times and none of the dishes were anything close to exceptional minus one which was a limited time sort of deal. food is overpriced for what you get. most of the staff aren't too friendly. today is probably the last time i will bebackthere. the server i paid and tipped was supposed to comebackwith the change i requested, but she did not. it was not busy at the time and you could tell she was stealing glances my way but pretending she didn't notice i was sitting there waiting on her. finally after five minutes, she camebackand hastily apologized, saying she forgot my change. her tone and body language was insincere and unconvincing. so many better diners out there, the food, service, and price is simply not worth it. sadly over-hyped because of the "hipster trend."

$11.00 for "dark storm" drink was costly considering it tasted "weak". pork taco was good but not great, meat seemed a bit dry, looked nice anyways. chicken sandwich was good also. service was really good. chocolate desert was quite good. we'd gobackagain.

good food, poor service. this place has great food, but the portions can be small (except for the burgers which are gigantic). i've found the past couple times i've been in for dinner however that the service has been lack luster. the owner is very friendly but the past two servers i've had were not very friendly or attentive. not sure i'll bebackany time soon.

great burgers. fun place. has that laidbackneighbourhood feel. to the people who rate it lower because of the wait times, go to boston pizza and stfu

blue star....a real review. i joined the site merely out of disgust that a certain unnamed person decided to go after a person's hair (since apparently one's hair has a negative affect on food and service even when that person is sanitary) and call another a tool (because the mind and vocabulary of a teenager makes you feel special by using 'tool' hello 1996) instead of making a straight forward review on the restaurant's food and service. oh well. intelligence isn't needed to write one of these, as was proven in that 'review'. this is a review that doesn't throw out names since i know what a review is. i enjoyed reviewing your review, though, with the same princess attitude. come again!

sitting at the bar, i wasn't hungry enough to go all out as much as i'd liked to. i went for the classic 2 eggs, hashbrowns and toast. added chicken sausage to it for s*its and giggles. nummy. the eggs were a bit dry and overcooked. shame. the rest was bang on. tasty sausage, fresh 'browns, and good toast. me likey likey. overall i would gobackin a heartbeat. it would be a weekend since i enjoy parking in the lawyers spots. blue star is always busy for these reasons. the owner is fun and fast to seat and/or put you on the waiting list. the 'tool' was constantlybackrefilling drinks. i truly appreciate when owners work like he did, pouring coffees, juices, waters etc. i will come back. great people. good food. fun place for all and family friendly.

can't get enough blue star!!!!!. i've visited blue star several times in the last few months (more times than i'd like to admit)... but i keep comingbackfor two main reasons- the food and the service
-the food is just plain good. they use grain fed, free range meat and use local suppliers. i've yet to have a meal i didn't truly enjoy
- the service is fantastic. yes, it's almost always busy at blue star... but there's a reason for that. considering how busy it is, i think they do a great job of getting people seated in a reasonable time frame. further, once you're seated, the staff are warm, friendly and very efficient

i would recommend blue star to anyone, with the caveat that it's a hopping place and has a great environment but it may take a few minutes to get a seat. but i promise, it will be worth the wait!!

great food and service. i had the 1st ave burger with dirty fries. one of the best burgers i’ve ever had. beef patty topped with pork belly, homemade sweet pickles, cheese, a fried egg etc. it’s a flavour monster. the dirty fries are topped with caramelized onions and cheese sauce. i definitely recommend this place when you are in the mood for good fresh diner food. i’ll bebackto try some other menu items for sure.

based on the breakfast burrito i had, i give 4.0, it’s hard to make the fried egg outstanding especially you fry it with usual green pepper, onion and mushroom. but my friend highly recommended this restaurant, so i will gobackto try more dishes for sure!!

this is a great little restaurant, in an awesome location, serving amazing dishes. all the menu options sound absolutely heavenly. we ended up ordering the guacamole (which comes with a disproportionately large amount of chips), with the thai soup and the bison burger. i definitely wanna comebackand try out more of the menu options!

the weather was minus freezing today. i though i would go out for a late lunch. i was served by lace and ashley who were both very friendly and attentive. i asked what they recommended and they both suggested the mushroom and garlic stuffed french toast. the food came out within 15 minutes of ordering. the presentation was very appealing and it tasted even better then it looked. both servers made me feel very welcomed and they always made sure i was well topped up on my coffee. very enjoyable, i will definitely bebackagain.

this is a place to be - great service, awesome food and man i tell ya you are full when you leave!!

my wife, daughter and myself went for  an early afternoon drive to seek out a breakfast place, my daughter suggested the blue star, i had never been but both the girls have, we had to wait to be be seated, but not to long and the staff were constantly checking with us to see if we would want anything, after about 20 minutes we were seated at a table for two with three seats, which i did not mind, however it was a bit cramped, the girls ordered the pancakes and eggs benny, i had the eggs over with sausage. the wait was maybe on the long side, but the food was good, arrived hot and the server was very able, as we were served, the table beside us left and we were able to spread out, the place is nice and warm with a rustic feel to it, its small but not really tight like some other diners around, ii was pleasently surprized and i will certainly comebackfor a shot at dinner, there was nothing super standoutish but it was all good and we had a good time

amazing breakfast! very friendly staff. had the stuffed french toast with sautéed herb & garlic mushrooms, mouthwatering! will definitely gobackto try out the lunch menu when in the area.

i came here for brunch with my boyfriend and found that their menu wasn't as unique as i had hoped. i had the huevos rancheros which was good but i wasn't blown away. the service was very good and maybe i will bebackto try something else on the menu!

a good place for breakfast after my early morning final! this is a small restaurant with a pretty relaxing atmosphere. the service is wonderful, and the price is reasonable for a big portion. worthy for a try! i will definitely comebackto try the dinner and wine here.
