breakfast is best. in the last couple of months my spouse and i have taken to going here for breakfast. service is always good, as is the food. in many places these days it is hard to get a poached egg. not at the blue plate. they poach eggs just perfectly. i like their plain grits, but my spouse is especially fond of the cheese grits. cups of coffee are bottomless and the orange juice is always nice and cold.

classic cafe -goodfood. blue plate cafe reminds me of the little local restaurants in the south during the 50s and 60s. it's the kind of food you could get at home, but you weren't able to go home for lunch. they serve on several blue and white colours of fiesta dishes which adds to the nostalgia touch.

there is always a line here, both for breakfast and lunch. often i run into someone i know. i've never been for breakfast and typically get a vegetable plate for lunch. every day there is a lunch special. one year i would check my daughter out of school every wednesday and we would go there for the chicken and dumplings. she loved that.

the biggest problem is the parking. it's sometimes difficult to find a spot. and i'm glad they chose this location. am hoping that it will inspire renewal of the rest of the area.

had one of the best breakfasts ever! breakfast burritos were generous, beautifully prepared, and absolutely fresh in every way. i love jalapeno and it was abundant. all my friends commented on howgoodtheir food was. this is my new favorite breakfast place. oh— and my coffee cup never got empty. highly recommended.

the blue plate cafe has been a popular stop on poplar avenue in memphis for decades. the tiny lot is almost always packed, there's usually a bit of a line, and it's all worth it. within its bright yellow and white rooms, diners enjoygoodhome cooking at reasonable. prices on blue gingham topped tables, packed in tight. it's not uncommon for parties to be sat together at a big table when there are far more diners than tables.

good no-frills breakfast with large portions and low cost. i ordered the huevos rancheros which came with sides, and i chose biscuits and gravy and pancakes. my wife ordered the breakfast burritos (2 large burritos) which she picked biscuits and gravy and grits. we didn't even come close to finishing our food because we were so stuffed. it probably isn't the best place to order mexican breakfast options. the biscuits and gravy wasgoodthough. the pancakes were thick and dense (perhaps too dense). the coffee wasgoodand better than typical diner coffee. they keep their coffee machine clean and free of rancid coffee oils which are common in diner coffee. their service was very fast.

the entire decor is very classic diner.

after sitting at my table the server was very fast to greet me and my wife and was very polite. my drink orders were brought within a minute or two.

the food was good, i'm not huge on southern cooking, but my wife loved it and although i don't like pork chops, i was impressed with the flavor and tenderness of this one. everything from the green bean to the potatoes were obviously prepared in house.

the service was excellent, the food wasgoodand everyone was polite.

it's agooddine and go place, a little more than some, but i think the quality of the meal reflects the price.

nice folks andgoodfood

we had a very nice breakfast at the downtown memphis location. our server and the other staff couldn’t have been more friendly and inviting. the food was solid and delicious. it wasn’t quite 5 star stuff but it was very good.

we had a wonderful breakfast. we had read reviews on this place and decided to try it out. the biscuits were verygoodbut the gravy is not worth it! pancakes were fluffy and really good. i would go back.
service was okay. not super but not terrible.

since 2003, bpc has become a fixture in the community, featuring southern home-styled meals familiar to native southerners, and to those who have adopted the south as their home away from home. as one of the area's busiest restaurants, it's rare to ever see its parking lot less than completely full. and with a generous-sized lot, that's a verygoodsign! open monday through saturday 6-8, their busiest times are breakfast and lunch, as one might imagine. service is quick, and always with a smile, while your coffee cup never runs dry or gets cold.

prettygoodfor what it is: a cafe serving classic breakfast foods. checkered table coverings, hardwood floors, etc. the food wasgoodbut won't blow you away with creativity. but if you're looking to be fed (and possibly a nap later) this is agoodspot with quality food. the cinnamon raisin pecan pancakes are an excellent exception to an otherwise traditional menu.

i bookmarked the blue plate cafe because of thegoodreviews on zomato, and i wanted agoodplace to eat breakfast while in memphis. i was there for my family reunion, and really didn't have time to eat breakfast because of planned events for the reunion. i had the opportunity to eat breakfast on my last morning in memphis, july, 26,2015. there was so much to choose from, it was hard to decide. i finally decided on the two eggs any style with your choice of sausage, ham or bacon, this is served with biscuits and sawmill gravy and your choice of grits, home style hash browns, or three buttermilk pancakes. i'm thinking i have to try the biscuits, and i did with honey instead of the sawmill gravy. i had the eggs over medium, bacon and three buttermilk pancakes. the biscuits weren't too heavy and with the honey it was on point! the eggs were cooked exactly as i wanted them, the bacon was crispy and those fluffy pancakes with warm syrup, yum!!! the blue plate cafe will be a stop on my next visit to memphis, make sure that you stop by too!@

get the french toast!  i went with a few friends who love to eat, so there were a lot of plates on the table, and pleased people after those plates were empty.  i loved the french toast.  our waitress was so helpful and sweet (because we basically made our own plates with random items from the menu).  the building is so cute and on a very pretty square that'sgoodfor photographs with your friends, if that's your thing. the menu is in the form of an old newspaper.  i recommend this restaurant if you visit or live in memphis!
