the restaurant itself used to be a house decades ago. it has an upstairs as well as a basement. the upstairs is just additional seating and downstairs is not open to the public. the menus resemble newspapers with the entrees posted inside with quotes and the restaurant's history on the outside.
thefooditself is fine but it isn't mind blowing either. i got the western omelet and it came with biscuits and gravy. the gravy was fine as it wasn't super thick and the biscuits were nice and soft. the omelet was a nice size but the bacon wasn't really cut up inside so it was a bit chewy at times.

breakfast is best. in the last couple of months my spouse and i have taken to going here for breakfast. service is always good, as is the food. in many places these days it is hard to get a poached egg. not at the blue plate. they poach eggs just perfectly. i like their plain grits, but my spouse is especially fond of the cheese grits. cups of coffee are bottomless and the orange juice is always nice and cold.

classic cafe - good food. blue plate cafe reminds me of the little local restaurants in the south during the 50s and 60s. it's the kind offoodyou could get at home, but you weren't able to go home for lunch. they serve on several blue and white colours of fiesta dishes which adds to the nostalgia touch.

there is always a line here, both for breakfast and lunch. often i run into someone i know. i've never been for breakfast and typically get a vegetable plate for lunch. every day there is a lunch special. one year i would check my daughter out of school every wednesday and we would go there for the chicken and dumplings. she loved that.

the biggest problem is the parking. it's sometimes difficult to find a spot. and i'm glad they chose this location. am hoping that it will inspire renewal of the rest of the area.

terriblefoodand smell. ate at this place for the 1st time on saturday, may 5, 2012. the butter flied chicken was rubbery and totally tasteless, my companion blackened catfish was suicide spicy and not flaky, the fried was tasteless and seems to be frozen filets pre-breaded and deep fried (too hard), extremely thin fish! the biscuits and cornbread had to have been left over from lunch (rubbery and nasty). the mac and cheese seemed to be some pasta shells and processed cheese sauce, the okra was fried toooooo hard. everything was nasty and we will never eat there again! i have been told that i should have tried the breakfast, however, i can't after such horrible food! also, the smell when you first walk in is extremely unpleasant....that should have been my warning sign. i can only give this place 5 thumbs down!!!!! disgusting food!

had one of the best breakfasts ever! breakfast burritos were generous, beautifully prepared, and absolutely fresh in every way. i love jalapeno and it was abundant. all my friends commented on how good theirfoodwas. this is my new favorite breakfast place. oh— and my coffee cup never got empty. highly recommended.

good no-frills breakfast with large portions and low cost. i ordered the huevos rancheros which came with sides, and i chose biscuits and gravy and pancakes. my wife ordered the breakfast burritos (2 large burritos) which she picked biscuits and gravy and grits. we didn't even come close to finishing ourfoodbecause we were so stuffed. it probably isn't the best place to order mexican breakfast options. the biscuits and gravy was good though. the pancakes were thick and dense (perhaps too dense). the coffee was good and better than typical diner coffee. they keep their coffee machine clean and free of rancid coffee oils which are common in diner coffee. their service was very fast.

offering up a heavy dose of southern hospitality, blue plate serves up comfortfoodwith a smile, and above average, well-seasoned, juicy fried chicken. the comings and goings that i observed indicated that other diners were equally pleased with their meals, too.

the entire decor is very classic diner.

after sitting at my table the server was very fast to greet me and my wife and was very polite. my drink orders were brought within a minute or two.

thefoodwas good, i'm not huge on southern cooking, but my wife loved it and although i don't like pork chops, i was impressed with the flavor and tenderness of this one. everything from the green bean to the potatoes were obviously prepared in house.

the service was excellent, thefoodwas good and everyone was polite.

it's a good dine and go place, a little more than some, but i think the quality of the meal reflects the price.

i think the blue plate is about as perfect a meat-and-three as you can get in the world today that hasn't been around for 50 years. it's always a "clean, well-lighted place" to borrow from papa hemingway. customer service is great, tea is sweet as candy, and thefoodis exceptional.

daily rotating entrees and vegetables. hash brown casserole is amazing!!

blue plate café? this a nice place to visit with your friends, have a cup of coffee and just relax. thefoodis ok... and it's placed in front of you,  in a few minutes.....but i can actually fix a better breakfast at home (honestly), but again here,  they do it for you...recommendations? have real honest to goodness chicken fried steak...you know, the one with real meat, egg and flour coating fried on a flat top with freshly made chicken gravy(white), not prepped out of a box (from costco?) deep fat fried and served like a brown hockey puck.......and perhaps fresh vegetables,  fresh tea not just a canned serving....... but on the other hand;  their fried baloney and  cheesy grits/fries are to die for.....so a balance i suppose....am i complaining, hmmm....but hey, i still like to come, watch people come and go  and have a cup of coffee...

pretty good for what it is: a cafe serving classic breakfast foods. checkered table coverings, hardwood floors, etc. thefoodwas good but won't blow you away with creativity. but if you're looking to be fed (and possibly a nap later) this is a good spot with quality food. the cinnamon raisin pecan pancakes are an excellent exception to an otherwise traditional menu.

...reminds you of eating at home. blue plate cafe on this front succeeds in every way. the taste of the food, however, is hit and miss. some items taste great while others may have just come out of a can and may give you a memory of a childhood school cafeteria instead of mother's dinner table. overall thefoodwas fine but there is room for improvement.
