blueheavenis an old haunt for us. been coming here since 1999. food is excellent. very fun place with hemingway ghost ever present. rooster cemetery because it was where the cock fights happened. "great place to bury your cock." too many tourists though and the lines/wait can be irritating. a mixed bag for sure. fun and irritating. progress we guess. making room in the middle for other great restaurants.

sort of chill'in

i went to blueheaventhinking to treat myself to a nice breakfast after three months in lovely kw. the courtyard was charming but the food (cheese omelette) was average, the coffee undrinkable but guess what!! i was scammed by the wait staff. i fell for the oldest trick in the book. i paid with a $50 (brand new out of the atm) for a $12.40 meal intending to leave a $3 tip. i almost, but didn’t, say to the waiter as he walked away ‘that’s a $50 you’ve got there in your little black folder’ .. but i didn’t because bh is a ‘nice’ place. when i got change back for $20 i thought there’d been an honest mistake. but no.. he went and ‘checked’ and came back to tell me there was no $50 in the till only a $20 (no duh.. in someone’s pocket by then) but the worst was still to come. the manageress came over and insisted atms in kw only gave out $20 bills (hallo wells fargo— funny that ) therefore i couldn’t have given a $20. i couldn’t believe what i was hearing.
so folks. just be super careful - especially in this tourist dive. there’re lots of amazing places in kw. unfortunately for the owner whom i’m told is a really nice guy this isn’t one of them.

the blueheavenis a must visit for the decor. it's like having breakfast in a island resort with sandy floors and naturalist surroundings.....the food is excellent also...can be a bit pricey but it's worth the experience...

review is strictly for the key lime pie.

i'm not gonna lie, i didn't really know about this place until i saw it on the travel channel. if you're coming to the keys, especially key west, you should be getting key lime pie. apparently, there is no better place to come than blueheavenfor that slice.

the place itself is a bit unique. the entrance looks like you're walking into a park/zoo and you head straight back into the backdoor patio where there are tables, trees, a bar, and even chickens walking around. you have to sit yourself down, but make sure you flag down a server as they're pretty busy running around the place.

we came here for one reason. key lime pie. blueheavenis known for making their slices with quite a bit of lemon meringue. when the slice does come out, it really does make an appearance. the lemon meringue on top fully outshines and engulfs the graham cracker crusted pie below. the meringue is fluffy and a tad bland, but when you make your way down to the actual pie, it's amazing. the pie is sweet but has just enough tart to make you realize that it's real key lime. the graham cracker crust falls apart, which is great, so you know it's not pre-made crust.

i loved the whole atmosphere of the place. i know it's known for other things like breakfast, but key lime pie is their specialty, so don't be afraid to stop in just for a slice like we did. the service is a tad slow, but friendly. definitely a nice place to stop and relax for a bit and grab some key lime pie.

blueheavenis a little gem we discovered toward the end of our vacation in key west, and if we ever go back we’d definitely like to try it for dinner. we stopped in randomly one day for a snack...e and wound up having some really great black bean soup and homemade corn bread. sorry for the half-eaten photo, but it was delicious!

boring. i had the opportunity to have dined at the blueheavenrestaurant, and it was boring as the food they serve. the waitress was not engaging, they all sat behind the bar and watch us at a distance, then when they served our food there was no seasoning on the food. key west is a very humid and hot place and when you have been walking and sweating most of the day, you need to replenish your electrolyte. their facilities are clean but as fas as their foods they need to get away from just salt and pepper and use some real spices

a must in key west. i was recently in key west and after researching on urbanspoon and yelp we decided to go to blueheavenfor dinner. it was delicious and the atmosphere is perfect! i had the scallops and my husband had the snapper - both fantastic! and a trip to blueheavenis not complete without a piece of key lime pie! loved everything about the place - just hope we can make a trip back again sometime soon!

heaven it is. i have been visiting blueheavenfor the past 10 years now. the off the beaten path, hippy-esque, restaurant is always a must visit. the food is always fresh, and has a carribbean flare to its flavorings. for breakfast i usually do the shrimp and grits, theres something about sitting outside in the tropical air, with the breeze blowing, enjoying fresh local food with a cup of coffee, and fresh squeezed orange juice.and yes, theres usually quite a few locals eating there, which is always a good sign.on the lighter side the homemade granola or fresh banana pancakes always are delicious. next time your there, give it a try!
cant wait to go back next year.

probably the best breakfast in key west. boyfriend had the blt(bacon lobster and tomato) eggs benedict. it was on the special menu, and it sure was special!! the hollandaise sauce contains key lime and is so yummy! a very filling meal, could have split it between the two of us. i ordered the breakfast tortilla-great flavors and the perfect combination of ingredients. it is huge! don't expect to wrap it up as a burrito, as it is about the size of one of the kittens you may see roaming around the outdoor restaurant. there are also roosters clucking around the dining area as well. it is a casual outdoor dining environment, so a leaf or two falling into you food should be expected. regardless of the complimentary flora, i would suggest blueheavento anyone looking for a fresh, filling start to the day. don't forget to order oj!

after 2 decades of eating there.. won't go back.. we first went there 24 years ago. it was that experience that defined blueheavenfor us and it ain't like that no more! the old hippies who used to be there would be so sad to see what has happened to this place.
week day crowd.
food quality for the price: yuck. not worth it.
mixed drinks: great value.
music (we are classically trained): great. we gave the band the tip most waiters would be happy with.
the waiter recognized us (we come to key west for a month or so each year), but still provided inattentive and erratic service, eventually serving us an under-cooked rice dish that had taken about 2 hours to get. problem is, it would have taken another hour to get him to replace it.

a real key west experience. key west is all about the fringes and funkiness. while blueheavenhas been gentrified over the years, it is still a unique key west venue. the backyard bar and weekend brunch are their main claim to fame and rightfully so, for great breakfast items and bloody mary's. but it is actually good anytime of day and night and definitely still worth seeking out.

key west
blueheavenis a kitschy key west eatery located in bahama village and is worth a stop for any key west visitor (many locals are regulars here too). the historical setting once served as a boxing ring (where hemingway refereed), a bordello, a cock-fighting venue and was even mentioned in a jimmy buffett song, “blueheavenrendezvous.” although breakfast is their main draw, we have dinner (alfresco) on this outing. to say the environment here is causal would be an understatement, even by key west standards. there is a ping-pong table, a rooster graveyard, an on-site water tower, the ubiquitous key west chickens, cats eating table scraps and birds roost in the trees. we both order the sautéed yellowtail snapper with citrus beurre blanc sauce - angel hair pasta, asparagus, fresh corn and cornbread. i was impressed with the fish and the overall quality of the dish… pleasantly surprised. we finish with their ethereal key lime pie and several of their signature cocktails.

price: $$$ hard to accurately estimate the cost, as we were buying rounds for the girls next to us - who insisted we attend a drag cabaret show with them on duval… hilarious

food: fine dining in a casual setting

service: our waiter was over-the-top friendly, helpful & fun - we partied, "larger than big"!!

decor: "if these walls could talk, i don't know what they'd say, they've seen some accidental masquerades at the blueheavenrendezvous… " - jimmy buffet
