checked in at blos cafe for dinner with fam, and was pleasantly surprised. i was expecting an old school farm style restaurant but instead i found it to be modern, fresh and full of flair! the food was tasty and beautifully presented. the thai red curry was delish (even though it could have been a little hotter for me). the menu has a good variety of fresh and light meals to warm and homey food! the service was top class and there was an overall welcoming and warm ambience! will soon check in during the day for some cake and coffee to check out the view!

checked in late at cafe blos in search of something different to normal friday take-always. my wife had lamb potjie which she apparently enjoyed tremendously whilst my two sons settled on ribs. i opted for chicken salad which was just okay - nothing wow.

awesome brew pub and restaurant. the micro brewed beer is phenomenal, with amazing, well priced pub style food. a must try for anyone in the area.

blos cafe has many charming qualities. the decor is fun and trendy and their in-house craft beer is definitely one of the highlights. i had a fabulous dinner at blos that started with a delicious mezze platter featuring an assortment of sliced meats, sausages, chicken, lamb, out-of-this-world vegetable crisps and tasty condiments. a feast for the eyes and a treat for the stomach.

on a negative note my main meal arrived cold, albeit flavorful. the lamb & prune potjie would have been the ideal dish for a cold winter's night if it had arrived hot and steaming.  however, the lamb meat was tender and the accompanying couscous and veggies were delicious.

when it came to the sweet ending sadly i was disappointed with my dessert which was described as "gooey, fudgy triple chocolate brownies". they definitely delivered on the rich chocolate front but unfortunately these brownies were far from gooey or fudgy, which were the two words that initially enticed me into ordering them.

the service and staff was very accommodating and friendly and i would definitely go back to try some of their new "gluten-free" baked fares.

having anticipated my visit to the beloved blos i was overcome with bafflement. there is grave danger in reviews that have dumbfounding positive prose. they are not realistic. questionable service and a squeaky floor detract from the beauty that is blos. overall a good experience.

was invited to blos cafe for the girlfies(tyler mirtle) first foodie meet up and over all had a pleasant evening... the evening started by being met at door with a glass of sherry to warm us up from the cold pretoria weather... after being escorted to our seats and the workings of the evening had been explained to us we ordered red cuppacinos that were really tasty.... the starters they served was a platter for each table everything on these platters were tasty but only one thing caught my attention and that was the honey glazed boneless chicken breast. it was amazing, standing out above the rest of the food on the platters the starters was accompanied by 4 different types of beer from the micro brewery that forms part of the restaurant... the gentlemen that brew the beer walked around explaining the taste of the beer which was a pleasant experience. my favourite beer from the range was the "blonde", not being a heavy beer drinker, the "blonde" went down really well.

for the main meal i ordered a 250g fillet with shoestring fries and a blue cheese and chives butter then wait for my order to arrive. took a while which is understandable seeing as we were a large group but not totally forgivable seeing as they knew that we were coming and knew that it was going to be a large group to cater for the systematic running should have been altered to accommodate for it... the fillet though was worth the wait! it was fantastic i would recommend to give it a try. the blue cheese and chives butter wasn't anything amazing and i preferred my fillet without it which isn't normal seeing as i love blue cheese on meat of any kind...

for desert i had a full serving of the chocolate browny and wasn't dissatisfied at all. the browny was just as tough as it was tasty it arrived with a spoon which didn't help at all. i had to use a fork after a while of not getting anywhere but other than that it was amazing...

so it was our (our being the boyfie peter pc hayman and i ) first foodie meet up! blos cafe was the location...the venue was stunning and the restaurant was warm and toastie inside. welcoming us was the very friendly and informative hostess who politely showed us to our table with a glass of sherry to follow. we were paired up with another couple for the evening, who were enjoyable company. the starters arrived with a platter of chorizo, wors, veggie chips, tender and juicy honey glazed chicken pieces, extremely tasty lamb sosaties( which were slightly tough but still flavorsome) and biltong corpaccio, accompanied by basil pesto mayo and a tomato basil pesto. the starter was great and tasty! with the starter came the wonderful range of home brewed beers to taste, and all of which the blonde beer was my favorite. the only error for this course was that our tables were not cleared for a long time and so there was a lot of clutter on the table.

next course was to our choice, so i decide to order the ribs (seeing as i was torn between the burger and the ribs, the ribs seemed to be ther better option). i must say that the flavor of the ribs were impeccable! and the presentation was stunning....however to my disappointment my ribs arrived ice cold. as i said, the flavors were stunning, but they would've been so much tastier if they were served hot. this was a slight disappointment because blos was fully aware of our foodie meetup and the critiquing that was to follow...and yet they did not prepare sufficiently enough to allow my food to arrive hot. this is not a fault of recipe but a fault of operation which needs to be attended to. the chips, however, were hot and tasty.

after main course i order the white chocolate tart which was decadent, sweet and very very satisfying! the tart was stunning and delicious! the only complaint would be the size of the tart, which was too big for something so rich, but i was more than happy to take the left overs home with me for later!

the staff were friendly, competent and accommodating, so a big thanks to the staff that night and an even bigger thank you to monieeek for arranging this fantastic foodie meetup because it turned out to be an awesome evening! @zomatoxbloscafe #zomatocouple

awesome food. very good service. well priced for what we ate. only reason not full marks is due to the fact that i would've liked a kiddies menu of some kind. kids shared a boerewors roll which was huge and tasty.

pretoria has a few hidden foodie gems - restaurants where you can walk in on a freezingly cold night and warm up by a cosy fireplace and be welcomed with a satisfying plate of beautifully prepared food. blos cafe is one of those gems.

hidden away in the quaint suburb of faerie glen, blos cafe is a rustic, european-style cafe with food that will satisfy even the most sophisticated tastebuds and an impressive offering of craft beer brewed on site that perfectly complements each dish.

we were welcomed on a very cold winter's night to a crackling fireplace and warm, inviting staff to experience the best that blos had to offer.

we started out with a delightful blos platter, which would, on any normal evening, have been enough to satisfy the most famished of stomachs. alas, we decided to go all-out and indulged in the exciting selection of carpaccio, lamb sosatie and sticky chicken thighs served with perfectly crispy focaccia.

the already filling starter was chased down with a gulp of delicious craft beer and followed by an exquisite bobotie burger (yes, you read that right) with gooseberry compote served on a raisin bun - a symphony of flavours that excites, indulges and soothes the tastebuds all at the same time!

the evening ended on a high note with a decadent brownie dessert and left us wanting nothing but a warm cosy bed - "magie vol, ogies toe!"

the cosy atmosphere and inviting, creatively curated decor, as well as the excellent service and truly exciting menu has secured blos' spot on our favourites list.

watch out for the full blog post on the restaurant on the i love pretoria blog next month!

one of my favs. once you step into blos, you are transported into a little wonderland, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.  i have never had a single issue with the service there, and even get greeted with a lovely hello for the waiters that recognise me.

i was lucky enough to get invited to the zomato foodie meetup there, it was tons of fun. we got treated to a presentation of how they make their own craft beer by the very chaps who made them. and even got a taste of all four! (i would recommend their stout any day). for my mains, i opted for a lamb mint sandwich, which was divine. but the desert was the clincher for me. i ordered a hot chocolate (being too full to eat anything else) and instead of the normal nestle hot chocolate, i got a warm glass of milk with the best chocolate buttons i've ever tasted on the side. so you can adjust the sweetness to your taste!! how cool is that!

i will definitely be back to work my way through more of their menu!

blos is really a hidden gem in the east of pretoria. naturally, they won me over with their in-house craft beer brewing facility, and it didn't stop there. the menu looked appetizing, page after page. i opted for a burger and it was delicious. the only let down was a waiter that seemed to have forgotten my drinks order. i will, however, definitely be back for the ribs soon!

this was my foodie debut with zomato. blos cafe is situated a bit out of my normal territory but after managing traffic the reception with a crackling fire and sherry was the sort of thing that made it worth it.

the atmosphere was comfortable and very homey but i could pick up that much effort has gone into finer details. from the light fittings to the male and female signs were chosen by someone with a coherent idea and some style.

the entrance is celebrated with a mural by a very good young artist, jotam schoeman, to the left and a micro craft brewery to the right.

the zeplin craft beer was paired with food platters and i can recommend both the ipa and the stout.

i had a gourmet burger with chips and sweet mayo sauce. if they sold that mayo sauce in a bottle i would have taken one home for sure. by snooping on what everyone else was having i can recommend the fillet with a braai broodjie side, it look very good.

dessert was a white chocolate tart with pistachios, if you're not allergic to nuts you simply must try it.

the evening was filled with good food, beer and conversation.

the blos cafe is still a really nice surprise!!

the food is excellent! last time we suggested they add some vegetarian dishes and it seems they responded very positively. some really good vegetarian options.

and beer on tap......😄😄

the service is also better than some previous experiences during the last weeks.

keep up the good work and we'll be back!

when we had a zomato meet up at blos cafe on wednesday night, it was bitterly cold in pretoria. inside though, it was snug & warm with a friendly fireplace and gas heaters among the tables.
we were served platters with a selection of starters. my favourite was the meltingly tender sweet curry lamb sosatie - lamb cubes marinated in sweet curry vinegar, then grilled - a south african delicasy. also biltong carpacio and basil pesto mayo.
boneless sticky chicken pieces, basted in orange and honey proved irresistable.
these platters were delicious and too much to appreciate in one sitting. i shall have to return!
my main dish was a bobotie burger with shoestring chips - the hamburger pattie made of bobotie flavoured beef -a novel south african take on the regular burger.
desert was white chocolate tart with dried cranberry and pistachio - smooth, creamy and not too sweet, it tasted incredible.
along with the delicious food, we had a craft beer tasting. zeppelin craft beer is brewed in the restaurant. we tasted blonde, ipa, red and coffee stout. it complemented the food and tasted great on their own.
blos is a great venue for enjoying contemporary south african cuisine with traditional roots.
