today goes down as the worst service (from start to finish) that i have received this year. i assure you that this is not a sweeping statement and to date i have reviewed over 786 restaurants using zomato. shocking, shocking, shocking service and food!

service:
so i will start with how the booking process went for this lunch:
thursday 11 may: i emailed xanie at blos. after seeing the r350 set lunch menu, i asked for a table to be booked, and used the banking details to pre-pay for our lunch for four (as per her instructions).
the next day, i confirmed using the restaurant mobile (0824662857) and got a reply stating that the proof of payment had been received and my booking was confirmed. imagine my surprise on sunday 14 may, when we arrived (excited) to start off my special mother's day lunch with family, to no booking and no record of my name or payment.

from there the day just got worse and worse..during our lunch, we were served by an assortment of eight different people (ellen, william, lawrence, tino...) who assisted very little today, knew nothing about their menu or customer service, and who did their best to not make eye contact with anyone trying to get their attention for service.
i personally got up three or four times myself to ask for a glass of wine or to order my partner abeeror just ask them to clear the plates.
service-wise, to end off our lengthy and disjointed mother's day lunch, we all gave up waiting for our bill for the drinks (after roughly fifteen minutes) and physically walked to where the bills are generated only to have them try to charge me again for our meals.

the only thing that actually made us laugh during this atrocious service was the fact that the poor table of eight behind us (who had a sense of humor about the poor service that they were receiving) eventually started asking the staff if they were "the invisible table".

food:
to start i selected the salmon roses.  (i will let the photo speak for itself but these salmon roses were more compacted rice and mayo than salmon by any means).
for mains i selected the lamb bredie served with more rice.
for dessert i selected the malva pudding. this dry square arrived with what looks like cold ultramel custard.
very seldom am i speechless, but i will instead let my photos speak for the pathetic meal that we experienced for r350 per person.

*recommendation: the only recommendation that i have is to avoid this restaurant. i feel sorry for anyone booking this restaurant and more importantly regret booking it for my special mothers day lunch.

blos is surely one of the great places in pretoria east to visit. not only will you be seated indoors in a very contemporary setting with amazing lighting, but outside offers you a dining experience that feels like you are brushing the tree tops. their menus have all the farmiliar options yet innovative, decadent and gives you a different experience. they’ve got lovely breakfasts that range from traditional to a few new experiences. their mains on offer is anything from hearty oxtail to grilled delicacies, red meat, poultry and off course lovely platters and desserts. i have enjoyed thebeerboard and it’s a good one. service is swift, waiting staff dressed neatly and their attention to detail, meticulous. well done blos team, you’ve won a fan! to everyone who haven’t been to blos…. go! now!

i am so disappointed. decided to get just a take-away from blos tonight. service was good no issue there, but 1) the price on the zomato site for theirbeerboard is r86. when i got there it was r110 - surely if you have a price change you should update your menu on the sites you are listed on.
2) i asked for the option of veggie chips, and no potato wedges - what i received were potato crisps - suppose those are veggies but why advertise veggie chips when you are just going to give potato crisps? 3). on the menu is grilled bratwurst - what i got was most definitely not bratwurst and not grilled but deep fried meat of some sort. 4) thebeerbread tasted like soil! on the upside, the onion rings and ribs were tasty and it is a nice large portion. then the cherry on the top 5) the charge on the slip was r110 (more expensive but i didnt query just thinking its a price increase ... but when i got home and my bank sms came through for my card payment, the waiter had put through a full r200 on my card. thats almost double what the meal even costs!!!! yes i should have checked there and then but hey, didn’t think they were so dishonest. truly disapointed and sad that this is what one now get’s from my previous beloved blos cafe 😰

blos cafe is a definite winner, i keep coming back here! the food has a strong local influence and is absolutely delicious! they have a great selection of wine, craftbeerand gin and the atmosphere is lovely due to its setting being in an old house set up in the tree tops. i also strongly suggest following them on social media as there is always something happening, from taco and tequila evenings to craft beer, cider, wine and gin pairings. they also have a great, affordable menus for special days such as christmas, valentines day, etc.
you can't go wrong with this place, so i strongly suggest you give it a try!

a good retreat from the usual shopping center and high street dining environments. blos café offers a good selection on its menu, although i personally prefer their breakfast offering. this past saturday we visited blos café for a birthday dinner, the restaurant i felt was a little cold even with the wood fire burning, i think additional heat would be welcome. overall a hip restaurant, craftbeerand good tasting food.

i use to go to "die werf" a lot,and gave loads of good memories. i was a bit skeptical of a "new" place. big was my surprised that blos has taken it to the next level. the did some alterations that really enhance the place. the have there own craftbeeras well and have an extended menu retaining some of the traditional dishes. (marrow bown, roosterkoek ect)

i opted for a burger (port and mushroom with emertal). although the patty was well done it was juicy and not dry. as a burger this was really one of the best burgers i had in 2016. the onion rings served with smoky mayo was great (a more smoky than roccamamas ) i'm not a fan of thin cut chips, but i should gave ordered wedges so i cant fault them on that.

i had a long island ice tea as well put there was way to much lemon in it.

service was acceptable, and all in all an enjoyable experience.

well worth a visit.

i love the setting on the deck by the trees and it's just lovely being outside in the fresh air. waiters great and the cocktails awesome. we shared some onion rings which were lovely and crispy (not covered in soggy batter and underdone like most other places) and the smoky sauce was really yummy.

i had the gorgonzola, pear and biltong salad for my main and it was a decent size and very tasty. (only little thing would be that the chutney and pear makes it quite sweet after a while but i really did enjoy it otherwise.) this place is a gem with a great vast menu and craftbeerselection. we can't wait to go back and try all the other amazing sounding things on the menu!! :)

i really like this place - the location is probably my favourite part, there's something special about sitting up in the trees. we normally go on a sunday afternoon, when they close a bit earlier. service has been good both times we've been there, they have a great craftbeerselection, and the food is good too - i've tried a couple different things on the menu, the food was always good, but occasionally i didn't particularly like what i ordered, just because it wasn't to my taste. last time i had the 3 nut curry and that was wonderful - great veggie option! have had the oxtail before and that was great! will always come back.

we went to blos on sunday for brunch with a couple of friends. overall a nice experience. i had thebeerboard. the chorizo was delicious and the smoky mayonnaise was really good as well. the bratwurst wasn't great and the veggie chips were a bit soggy. the 'flat white" was a terrible milky excuse for a coffee. the service wasn't great either. our waiter was a bit obnoxious and absent. the setting is lovely and the overall quality of the food wasn't bad. i do feel that r65 for scrambled eggs and toast is a bit ridiculous though.

this is friday done right: craftbeerand explosion-in-the-mouth food (not a euphemism).
@bloscafe is somewhere i've wanted to go for a long time. i ordered the gourmet open sandwich - marinated mango on home-baked bread, topped with smoked chicken fillet, brie cheese, rocket and sesame seeds. yum! i don't usually eat mango but the fruit edge was perfect. the bread was slightly toasted just enough to be a bit crisp and smokey.
because of that the @revivalbrewing zepplin ipa paired perfectly with this meal - citrus and smokey on the nose, a bit nutty and smokey on the tongue with a dry, earthy aftertaste. refreshing for a friday.
i will go, eat and drink all of the above again.
thanks and props to @madaleenv for good times.

i joined my girlfriend for a foodie meet-up at blos a few weeks ago. we arrived late, but the staff was very accommodating. we tasted their selection of craftbeer- a must for anybeerlover. we had a haloumi starter to share and i ordered a steak for mains. the portion sizes were very big and the food well prepared. we somehow managed to still have room for dessert - i had creme brullee and my girlfriend a decadent looking white chocolate tart. i really recommend blos cafe for meat eaters, vegetarians, vegans, beerlovers and foodies. a must.
