seagull cafe, not blackbird. good food, friendlystaff, good location, but the seagulls...ruined my meal. problem is not the seagulls, they are opportunist, but this restaurant's ownership does nothing to deter their opportunity to roost on top of the outdoor umbrella's over the tables. the umbrellas were stowed, the seagulls perched on top over several tables, and the one seagull over my table needed to use the facilities right over my breakfast. i shooed him away, adding a few choice words of disdain, only to look up and see a replacement opportunist had taken it's place in waiting. when i shook the umbrella my mocha spilled all over my lap.
ok, poor result, move on. but, what burned me was the owners and staffs response when i suggested they must do something to deter the seagulls. they said, something to the effect, "your sitting outside, what do you expect?". i suggested they put flags on top, or attach some other pointed object to prevent them from landing over people's food. they just seemed disinterested, did not discount my meal, and with this attitude nothing will be done.
to be sure, i drove along main street after, to view all the outdoor eateries, and not one had a seagull presence. my wife and i go out every sunday for breakfast, eat outside when available, and i cannot remember ever having this situation before.
as i say, it is not the seagulls fault, but to me, it is one of lack of interest from the blackbird's management and staff. not once did they take any measure to deter theseagulls from their perch right above unsuspecting patrons breakfast plates. unfortunately, my plate was ground zero.
won't go back.
