blackbird cafe

i don't know if you've been to mornington lately but it's a bustling little version of church street awash with cafe-ing options as far as the eye can see. so "ha ha! you must have been the very last request in the kitchen!!" (on receiving lukewarm food),"can i please have cutlery? ", "ha ha. watch out for the attacking seagulls!!". .. not really to my tastes and neither was the food. but due to the popularity i'm assuming it must have it's positives?

having never visited mornington before, we visited late on a sunday. staff were welcoming, accommodating of our 6yo son, beautiful and quick coffee, assistance with the menu, recommendations for the menu, delicious baked eggs and the lamb burger is huge! yes it's a bit pricey, but yum!

food was totally fine. price is reasonable. service wasn't great. didn't get a bottle of water so every time i required refill took 5 minutes. took a while to get food order. cakes looked great but couldn't get service to order so we just got the bill. took 15minutes for us to pay. staff was friendly, just not attentive.

good coffee and food but the service was very slow for brunch. i like the idea of having blankets available for those sitting outside to boost capacity on cold days, but a couple of extra staff might have been helpful too

great location in mornington as it is down a large laneyway off main street. so you can sit outside and enjoy the food without having the noise of main street.

i have dined at blackbird cafe several times and it never disappoints. the cafe is usually busy but often you can find a table. both indoor and outdoor seating available. the menu is turkish inspired with vegetarian and vegan options. i recommend the smashed avocado - very fresh, tasty and filling. the menu is also reasonably priced compared to other cafes on main street.

smooth coffee together with home made cakes makes this cafe a standout. will be again

today we stopped by this cafe for lunch, normally it’s packed and you can’t get in, but luck was on our side today, or so we thought. we got a table immediately and a lovely waitress brought us a bottle of water, very welcome on a warm day. menus arrived but it took 20 minutes+ before anyone came to take our orders. another 20 minutes before the food came. my husband had the salmon fish cakes and he enjoyed them very much, lucky him! i probably should’ve ordered them, they did look good. i ordered the veggie borek which sounded good, but sadly it wasn’t. sure it was full of veggies and had a side salad. clearly it was warmed in a microwave as the top pastry was limp, not crunchy which it should’ve been and other than a few bits of carrot and green beans which had a bit of texture, the rest of the veggies were mush, which made the bottom pastry layer complete mush. the salad greens were ok but only one tomato wedge was edible, the others were sad looking and inedible. when i mentioned this at payment, no discount was given and got no apology. i was told i should’ve mentioned it to floor staff. several of the wait staff walked past our table and saw my uneaten meal and did not ask if things were ok. i probably should’ve spoken up but they would’ve taken forever to replace my meal. sorry guys but pastry doesn’t belong in microwaves.

pancakes were to die for , efficient staff and friendly  ,have been a few times and also a great brekky, will certainly be going back for more of the same

very busy restaurant off the main street in mornington. so much to chose from that sounded wonderful. friendly staff and decent serves. will come back again.

on multi day out to mornington this end of the week, my mum and sister and i, chose to attempt some place extraordinary. we discovered the black bird cafe essentially in light of the fact that we were searching for an approach to break through to the principle road. thank heavens!! it was extraordinary. in any case, the champion for us was the administration. extraordinary. well beyond. these folks conveyed the best administration i've ever had from a bistro. well done folks!

it was the long weekend and my partner and i decided to have breakfast in mornington. we came across this lovely cafe with extremely polite staff. we were well taken care of despite the large number of people. there were so many choices for food. loved my food and cake. really made my day! would definitely return :)

we took our father for afternoon tea at blackbird café on saturday afternoon (18th august) while he was on leave from hospital.the staff couldn't be more accommodating or friendly. nothing was too much trouble & the food was divine.the service was so good we went back on sunday for brunch. the staff informed us that they were quite happy to make alterations to the menu & remembered how we liked our hot beverages. again, we were not disappointed.thank you to all the staff at blackbird café, you made a very special time for me even more memorable.

went here first time last week - great food and even better service! was excited to go back again today to be met with very bad service. me and my friend were told we couldn’t make alterations to the menu even though we had it last week. when we mentioned we had it last we were responded to rudely. we weren’t asked if we wanted any coffees or given any water like the rest of the tables. can’t fault the food or coffee.

friendliest staff always delicious food. reasonably priced for massive portions. have tried just about everything on the menu but the eggs florentine or the ricotta pancakes usually go down well.
