a disappointingly lovely restaurant with potential, but a very poor "steakhouse". how to create an unforgettable 30th for all the wrong reasons.

our waitress was faultless: professional, polite and didn't harass us every two seconds just to ask how the food was. the ambience of soft lighting and generic light jazz in the background was pleasant and inviting.

however, the disappointment came when the $76 300gram rib eye was brought out. when a dedicated "steakhouse" advertises a wagyu with a marble score of 5+ for that price, you expect it to a bloody good steak. but no, it was far from it. in fact, we had to ask the waitress after the initial couple of bites if they had accidentally served us a rump instead. i'll give credit to the chef that it was, in-fact, medium rare (which you would hope from a place of this rating) but unfortunately that's basically all it had going for it. almost all the flavour came purely from the salt-covered exterior. thecutwas so average that our steak knives had trouble cutting through some of the grizzle/tendons.

it was comparable to a $30 pub feed at literally any decent pub or even the best woolies/coles rump on offer.

i'll give credit where it is due though. the entree of bbq beef short ribs was cooked perfectly with an incredible marinade. the side of steamed vegetables were also cooked perfectly with a subtle dressing to compliment.

but when the other main ('fish of the day') is better than your steak...at a steakhouse...then you have a problem.

i'm honestly incredibly surprised how this place has collected so many great reviews and is somehow rated one of brisbane's finest.

would not dine here ever again. and definitely would not recommend anyone else to do so.  even if the management were super generous to knock a whopping $9.50 off the bill as an apology.

we found the service at black hide to be top notch, our waiter new about all the foods and recommended most of the dishes we chose, which we where happy we took his advice. we had the tomahawk which was packed with flavour, nice marbling fatty flavour and cooked medium rare to perfection. what we expected for thiscutof beef. we ate there with friends and found it easy to have conversation and the lighting to be perfect. it is quite pricey but we thinks its worth it for the whole experience you get. i would put this place in our top 5 when it comes to favourite steak restaraunts. ps. the beef short ribs entree and the chocolate liquid desert is highly recommended.

i will rate it 9.9 out of 10, why?. we went here on a wednesday night. i want to keep this short. i have ate at many restaurants, many at southbank, portside, emporium, gold coast etc, the list goes on.

this place, thecutsteakhouse and tapas tops all the categories, from professional staff that genuinely care for you, especially the gentleman in the suit (i'm sorry i forgot your name) to the absolute exquisite tasting food. service was absolutely a+, never had better anywhere in my entire life. it was that amazing.

we ordered the salt and pepper calamari, 2 x wagyu steak, 1 side salad, 1 steamed vegies and and absolute off the charts creme brulee.

for the people looking for reviews about this restaurant. we may have different points of standards when it comes to food, but if you want a+ service, a+ food and an a+ experience, cutsteakhouse is the way to go.

i do not work forcutnor do i have anything to do with them, i am plainly a very very satisfied customer who would not even hesitate, going back to them.

the 0.1 i leave, is for everyone, theres always room for improvement, and i'm sure i would be even happier the next time i go back.

if theres one thing i need to pick out on, which of course is very very minor. is the way our steak was served. the steak wascutfor us when served. i personally do not like that as it leaves out all the juices and makes the steak cool a lot quicker.

all in all, this restaurant is a must go. if you've come this far to look at this review, you wont go wrong.

thank you to the gentleman in the suit, and the rest of the staff, i will be back with my girlfriend, not just for our anniversary this time, but just because you guys are so good at what you guys do and the amount of effort you put in to make our evening so happy.

all the best!!!

another great night out atcutsteakhouse - best steaks and tapas in brisbane. the news tapas items are to die for and the new desserts hit the spot. might have to book in our xmas party here for work...

acutabove the rest. the gambaro family has done it again.

exceptional food (steak and tapas), at very resonable prices, and a special warmth with the fitout and customer service that the gambaro family is accustomed to delivering. a perfect formula.

i cant wait to go back and share the tomahawk with a few mates (1.2kg steak cooked to your liking) and hear the cow bell get rung while we enjoy a few cleansing ales and make our way down to suncorp stadium to watch the footy.

could this be brisbane's best steakhouse?. being the opening night, we arrived atcutsteakhouse tonight anticipating some teething problems. there was a long wait for someone to take our drinks order; the restaurant didn't have some items on their menu (for example, the james squire beer which was on tap); no pen was provided with the bill to sign for the credit card. small things which i'm sure will be ironed out in the next few weeks. (to be fair, there was also a reds game on to add to their stress!)

teething problems aside, the steaks were simply fantastic. up until now, my favourite steak was pretty much anything david blackmore wagyu (from moo moo's brisbane and rockpool bar & grill sydney), with master kobe from moo moo's broadbeach a close second (no longer available there as far as i'm aware).

the wagyu rib fillet or sirloin atcutsteakhouse is now my favourite, taking into account the very reasonable price. the wagyu is sourced from stanbroke, and it is exclusive in queensland to cut. most importantly, the steaks are full-blood wagyu and not the inferior f1 wagyu you get at most steak restaurants. at first, my fellow diners were skeptical given the wagyu only had a marble scoring of at least 5+. however, our steaks were testament to the fact that you don't need a 9+ marbling score for an amazing steak.

the sirloin and rib eye were $59.90 (300g), which is exceptional value for the high quality steaks they were. they were so good that you didn't need any sauce or extra seasoning - and that in my opinion, is the benchmark for a great steak (just as well though, as i didn't think the wild mushroom sauce was any good). they were so tender that you couldcutthem easily with a normal table knife (which i had to do, given i embarrassingly dropped my steak knife). it is melt-in-your-mouth, flavoursome goodness.

cut also offers a huge 1.2kg tomahawk angus steak, which is on the bone and designed to be shared (unless you're really hungry!). we will be returning to try thiscutnext time.

for sides, we had beer battered onion rings (average) and green vegetables (not much you can do with steamed vegies, but they provided a good balance to the richness of the steaks). would probably try the potato puree and baked pumpkin next time.

for dessert, our table had the mud cake (incredibly dense and moist, for those chocolate lovers out there), apple and raisin crumble (also divine) and creme catalan (basically a creme brulee but not a great one).

the restaurant interior is simple and stylish with a warm ambience. all in all, if you are a steak lover, do yourself a favour and try the wagyu at cut! in my opinion, cutwill easily be the best steak restaurant in brisbane, surpassing the likes of cha cha char, moo moo's and vintaged.

ps.cutis located opposite gambaro's on caxton st (owned by gambaro hospital group as well) and so you can park in gambaro's car park.
