the smells from the outside of this restaurant to the moment you walk in are just mouth watering ! a beautiful, intimate interior welcomed by friendly staff. i went with the waiters recommendation of the slowcookedlamb with side of mash, beans and garlic & thyme condiments. great choice! the lamb wascookedso beautifully and the flavors were outstanding. i had to finish with dessert and went with the chocolate soufflé dish. another great dish, light but decadent. would definitely come back and recommend to friends to visit :d

this mediterranean and grill restaurant is located on mort street. the smells coming from the restaurant was amazing.

it seemed quite busy and the service was lovely.

we started off with some tapas. the croquetas were nice and crunchy. the filling had jamon iberico, samorejo, and manchego bechamel sauce. it was creamy and delicious. the goats cheese churros were light and tasty. it came with a vibrant mojo verde sauce. the piquillo pepper was filled with crab and prawn. served with romesco and a nice bite.

for entree i had the berkshire pork a belly. portion size it seemed like more like a main and was generous. it has a great crackling on top and the meat was tender. the sauces of rhubarb and apple martini added another complexity to the dish.

the maltagliati pasta was pappardelle like and served with a fantastic braised lamb ragu and topped with pecorino sheep cheese and gremolata. the angus rib eye was a perfectlycooked400g steak served on the bone. it came with choice of side which it was roasted potatoes which were abundant in flavour. added horseradish creme fraiche as the sauce.

great dinner had here and would highly recommend.

we visited on a saturday night. there were two sittings: 6-8pm and 8-10pm. we took the earlier and had a set menu / degustation for 2 ppl at $55pp. it included 4 appetisers/entrees and two mains.

the red pepper stuffed with crab and prawn paste was lovely.

i thought the rest was average to be honest. the two mains - slowcookedsuckling pig with apple sauce, and the slowcookedlamb with garlic sauce/aioli was way too meaty and heavy. it was served with tomatoes in olive and capers, and baby roast potato. the capers and tomatoes helped to lift it all. unfortunately the sauces didn’t do much to enhance flavours of the meats and they really needed the lift because they were both so heavily - flavour wise and density wise.

given how heavy the end of that meal was, we couldn’t even try desserts. we felt quite uncomfortable from the meats.

it was a hot evening and the spanish beer we ordered- estrella - was a nice, light accompaniment for the food and the weather.

the waiter was quite friendly. he kept asking what we thought of the food all night. we were good until the meats, and we tried to tell him that it he wasn’t interested. and all the chatter that we experienced throughout the dinner turned into a frown and silent treatment when we paid without giving a tip. something i did not expect.

unfortunately this was just about average. each of the ten dishes were not quite good enough to be great. for example the rib eye was over cooked, the baby octopus said it came with crispy potato and actually only had three shavings of potato (wtf?), the yummy slow roasted wagyu was covered in a not very nice under seasoned gravy, the coulant was tasty but overcookedand not oozing chocolate ... sigh just not quite there. pretty expensive too so all in all a bit disappointing.

may 2018 - let's add this is the second time here and drop the stars from 4 to 2 and we will never be back. firstly, my colleague called to book a table for 12 only to be told it would have to be a set menu decided by the chef on the night of $55 a person as we had too many in the one group and weren't allowed to order from the normal menu. we all reluctantly agreed. second the wine list for second hand quality wine was $39 a bottle, yeah, i don't think so. third.....it took 2 whole hours with ages between each entree to come out. the service was very very very slow. the entree platters were...just okay and i'm talking okay, plain....not great or anything to write home about....not five star food as i already stated a month ago. when we finally got the main, 2 hours later.....the pork and lamb were actually good but the wagyu beef slices were absolutely disgusting. this is supposed to be rare and tender. they were rare, which was fine but when i tried to eat my first bite, it was like eating leather with gristle sinew through it. i cut the tiny centre out of another tiny piece, this seemed okay but the third time on another piece had the same gristle sinew. a very big let down and disgusting. we did have to ask several times when the next round would be out as it was taking so long. the waiter took it upon himself to order for us two more bottles of wine of which i stopped and said, the price is not worth it for the cheapness. now, he decided to order these 2 extra bottle without asking us first. ......again.....disappointed. we will not be back to this overpriced place again. such a let down to our day. picture of gristle sinew wagyu attached......

april 2018 - first time here and would come back. while the food was good, it wasn't 5 star or worth the praise some seem to give it. my eye fillet was actuallycookedperfect but presented by itself on a huge, brown, bumpy plate. don't get me wrong, i loved the plate but for presenting food that is brown also and for cutting on, not a good choice. the mashed potato was a good consistency but there was absolutely no flavour at all. for the price i would have expected flavour. my colleague had the sides of carrot and char grilled pumpkin with her steak and there was an abundance of flavour. we each ordered a dessert and shared them, both were delicious if over priced. i would come back and would recommend to others. i'm a harsh reviewer as i really like decent food at an acceptable price.

food was amazing. slowcookedlamb was amazing. steak was excellent and expected. the service however was sub-optimal given the atmosphere and the price. the waiter literally was trying to yank the menu off our hands whilst reading it. charged us sparkling water which we didn't order. called my male friend "madam" and took them over 20 mins to take our order. a lot of things to improve on...

solid steak and mediterranean fare. the bell peppers with crab meat were not a good combination. the tenderloin steak wascookedwell and the sides were okay but not outstanding. the highlight were the desserts with the cranberry tart with chocolate mousse being very popular and delicious

entree: house bread and extra virgin oil 9/10
char grilled nsw octopus with yellow potato crisps and roasted peppers 9/10
main: angus rib eye on the bone with rosemary and garlic sauce 10/10 -cookedperfectly medium rare and sauce was the perfect balance and smooth and packed a punch.
slow roasted wagu steak 5.5/10 - nothing special, reminded me of pulled meat prepared from a slow cooker for a lazy no effort meal but flavours were there.
sides: woodfire herbed potatoes 10/10
grilled mixed mushrooms 10/10 - a must have side for mushroom lovers!
service: was seated promptly with service being spot on and super attentive. wait times between entree and main were just right.

have walked past this place many times and have always been intrigued by the menu so i took the plunge and took my partner for dinner. decided on the calamari for starters which was tender and bursting with char grilled flavour, a good start i thought. the mains followed shortly thereafter. i had the rump, medium with the white bean, chorizo and tomato side. the meat was perfectlycookedand the side was complimentary in flavour. my partner had the fillet which was meant to be medium but arrived well done. the dish was sent back and as the restaurant was fully booked and we were on a tight timeline to vacate our table there was not the opportunity to have a replacement meal provided. the staff were apologetic and we were not charged for the returned dish but unfortunately this spoiled an otherwise enjoyable night out.

i came here by myself for dinner during a work trip. the waitress was very attentive and friendly. i ordered wagyu rump and the chef recommended that i should have itcookedmedium rare so i happily took his advice. while waiting for my steak to arrive a waiter kindly offered me a complimentary dish of roasted potatoes! it was very kind of them (maybe because i was just sitting there by myself while looking around). the wagyu rump wascookedto perfection and i thoroughly enjoyed it. excellent food and service and very reasonable price. i'll definitely come back again on my next visit :)!

p.s. i rocked up on a tuesday night with no booking and noticed that the restaurant was very busy on a cold winter night. it's a good idea to make a booking to avoid disappointment.

this is our second time here. first time was ok because our rump caps wascookedalright despite not being medium rare all through. now this time was so different. the rump caps was burnt, dry and obviously well done despite it initially looked pink (when they sliced it in the middle) and steamy when it was brought. this meant that they did not let the meat rest and took it out of the heat too late. the lemon butter sauce was tasteless (no hint of lemon or butter) and seemed like all the white sauces are made of some kind of mayo. we also had a duck dish. this was under cooked, u could see the translucent raw texture of half of the pieces. the only good thing that day was that the orange they use was nudie. when i went to the counter to pay, and the waitress asked how was the meal, i said "i dun like to complain but...." before i could finish my sentence she just quickly thanked me and ignored us. for that i really do not recommend this place for beef meats and duck and i will never come back. and it is by far the worstcookedrump/ steak ive ever had, even worst than the 9 dollar steak u get from cafes and pubs which taste so so much better.

located just around the corner from the bent spoke, blackfire is one of braddon’s newest eateries. it’s a meat lover’s dream with most of their meatscookedon a open wood fire but they also have less meaty options too. although i’d like to take this chance to admit that i am basically a fraud. no matter how much i try to go animal free, i keep slipping up and eating alloftha meat. and how could you not at blackfire?
