big roddy's rippin' rib shack

big roddy's is definitely the best rib shack (and american-style dining) restaurant i've been to. i actually think about the 'fried chicken burger' on an almost daily basis since i had it last week (it's probably a good thing i live so far from the restaurant, otherwise, i would be there all the time :d )thepoutineand other burgers are all great as well, not dry, but not overloaded with sauce either, all perfectly balanced in their ratios.staff are super friendly, even when busy their service is still fantastic! have been recommending to others, and hope to go back soon :]

originally came here after seeing they offer chilli cheese fries. i've been 3 times now and have still yet to have the chilli cheese fries. this is with good reason, however. they offer the holy grail of foods;poutine(with real cheese curd too!). after over-indulging myself onpoutinewhile in toronto i thought i'd never have truepoutineagain and would have to settle for chips, mozzarella, and gravy. happy to be proven wrong.

the first time we visited big roddy's was during peak hours of fish lane festival. though the shop was very crowded there was still space for two of us to squeeze in. service and delivery were both exceptionally fast and friendly. all customers seemed to be enjoying themselves.
the second time we had to bring some friends with us to experience the true epicness of this food. both of our friends were also extremely impressed with the food and portion size. was nice to see the owner out and about checking on customers too.

always telling friends about this place even recommended some our canadian customers who are convinced it's as good as the real thing!

we canadians just couldn't resist the call of poutine. unfortunately, we picked the busiest night of the year during the fish lane festival and the place was packed and very loud. so we ordered takeaway full rack pork ribs, green beans, and the obligatory poutine. the quality and quantity were worthy of the $42 we paid for everything. everything was good but being thepoutinesnobs we are the chips were a bit soggy. but we'll be back when they are not so busy to resample.

take two. may 22. stopped for the pulled pork burger and garlic beans. scrumptious and healthy size options. great service!!! bumped the rating up to 5.

have been here three times now and it has not disappointed. the quality and quantity of the food is always awesome. tonight i got a half rack of pork ribs with honey carrots and my partner got the fried chicken burger 'big roddy style'. it was all amazing, have also had thepoutinewhich is to die for. the menu for food and drinks have a great variety. the environment is very new and trendy. the staff are friendly and welcoming. i will definatley be back! #reviewchallenge

great vibe, welcoming staff and satisfying food. thoroughly enjoyed my veggie burger. chilli fries were a little too hot to handle butpoutinewas spot on. will definitely return.

so..... not going to lie i took a photo of the sign before i walked in to big roddys 😂 obviously i was a tad excited 🙄😅

we were greeted by a lovely lady who offered to shift a few tables and was more than accommodating. service here? 💯

looking at the menu i was abit like 🤔 can i just order everything. in the end i ordered the cheeseburger and buffalo wings with original bbq sauce and aioli dipping sauce (i'm a wuss i can't handle spicy 😬)

sat down at our table and in the background "mo money mo problems" is playing and i'm like okay.... how often do i get to go to lunch and hear biggie playing in the background.... had to stop myself ordering one of those beers on tap cause i probably wouldn't have gone back to work 😏

anyway! back to the food.... my team mates ordered the sweet potato fries 😫 what did u put in them! i don't understand how you made them taste like that... they were disgusting.... #sarcasm if "fried heaven in a bowl" was a thing, it would be them..

this is abit getting a bit long... so in a nutshell i wasn't even full but asked for a doggy bag so i could enjoy my leftover two wings and half a cheeseburger at 3pm....

next thing to tackle is thepoutineand ribs for sure. only criticism i have is that i ordered 6 wings, got 7 but probably could have eaten a couple / ten more!

in conclusion this is now the new "go-to".... good vibes, great service and amazing food! if i wasn't trying to be skinny i would be there at 12pm for lunch all day errday!

ozbargain 13th birthday meetups - brisbane edition. found out about this last minute and i handed to be able to go, so why not? we feasted on the likes of:
* the royal sampler, $39 - pork button half rack & beef short rib single bone
* buffalo wings, $10 - 8 deep fried chicken wings smothered in buffalo sauce served with blue cheese dipping sauce
* chicken strips, $10 - strips of deep fried, buttermilk brined, seasoned chicken served with aioli dipping sauce
* poutine, $13 - canadian style handcut fries topped with rich gravy and australian cheese curd
* sweet potato fries, $7
* chilli fries, $13 - handout fried chips topped with big roddy’s chilli and homemade american cheddar cheese sauce

awesome meal, really enjoyed thepoutineand of course all of the meats, of which the ribs were the expected standouts. nice to meet some other members of the ozbargain community too, and share in our love of bargains!

if you're looking for a proper cheat meal then roddy's won't let you down. i can't pretend to say you're going to lose weight here, but you're definitely going to gain an experience of brilliant food.

the service is excellent and always friendly with a healthy dose of cheekynish.

the atmosphere is exactly what you want from a "rippin rib shack".

finally, the food. the ribs are truly melt in your mouth. thepoutineis actually real and amazing. the loaded fries are just that, loaded. thinking about it, pretty much everything is always good.

i'm not game enough to attempt the hungry horn challenge, but i imagine you'd be ruined for anything else for life after that much good food.

this place is the bomb. delicious wings? yes. fall-of-the-bone ribs? yes. great burgers? yes.poutineto die for? yes, yes, yes. the only problem with big roddy’s is that deliveroo doesn’t deliver to us, something that i have addressed, but has only been resolved once. then it went back to no delivery zone. we live in the city, next to the story bridge. i crave big roddy’s on a weekly basis. go there, or get it delivered. thepoutinerocks my socks.

the beef and brisket ribwich was damn tasty! and thepoutinewas super satisfying. looking forward to trying the signature ribs next time. we visited on a saturday evening so it was a little cramped, but we still received our food quickly and the staff were genuinely lovely. i especially liked how each table was given a roll of paper towel for realistic rib messiness! #keepingitreal

we were booked in for a friends birthday and were keen to celebrate at this casual american style bbq joint. planning ahead we purchased a groupon voucher for $100 to spend on the fam, but unbeknown got us we can’t use the voucher for another week or so. because we didn’t read the fine fine print carefully enough we needed to spend double on the night, which put a sour note in our mouths and ruined the wallet fun.

the food came out fairly quickly with poutine, pork ribs, poppers and buffalo wings being ordered. thepoutinewas definitely a highlight for me as the crunch of the fries and the melted cheese with gravy providing a nice textural balance. the pork ribs were not a strong contender with shiners through out the rack. if you are after traditional low and slow wood smoked bbq, roddys isn’t your place, but for a moderately priced night out that the family will enjoy this is definitely it.

food 5/10 service 7/10 decor 7/10

came in for lunch- the place has a nice fit out and friendly staff. it’s not bang for buck though. food wise, the mac filled poppers were pretty good.. the gravy on thepoutineand blue cheese dipping sauce were the winners. pretty pricey- would i come back? sure, but on payday.

we tried a few menu items, pork and beef ribs, jalapeno poppers, wings andpoutinewith coleslaw and corn as sides, all of which were fantastic, coupled to a fantastic (happy) attitude from all staffers, we had a fantastic lunch and will gladly return.

9-5 getting you down? don't want to go home to a hellofresh meal? that's exactly how i felt until my mate called me up and said one word "ribs?"

done! such an easy sell. my rubber arm was twisted with about zero effort.

huge stacks of ribs that fall off the bone.poutinethat even a canadian would melt for. you eat soo much you feel pregnant... (even if you are already). ohh glorious rib shack i thank you for supplying me with ribs, wet wipes and a bib. you truely know me.

the food was lovely, and the staff were very professional. thepoutinewas particularly great. next time i visit brisbane, i would definitely go back and try more of their food.
