belmont grill

great food and people. as an out-of-towner working m-th nearby,this uniqueplacequickly became my favorite in a town known for excellent food and people. the owner and his staff are always friendly, and the food is incredible especially for the price. the burgers, the chicken livers, and the beef skewers were my favorites and after a evening workout at the gym, it was always a real treat to come over and sit at the bar. miss it very much and often think of flying through memphis just to be there again.

thisplaceis no longer some charming hole in the wall, but is more like a dump. they seated me without bothering to tell me the ac wasn't working. it's 99 degrees out, people. poor bartender was wiping his forehead from the sweat. also, the light above our table flickered the whole time. 

unlike the much better belmont grill in germantown, thisplacedoesn't have any real veggies. all your choices for sides or appetizers are various fried things, baked beans, onion rings, etc. the gtown location has real veggies! 

but most disappointing was my overpriced and overcooked french dip. $10 for the small boring, dry sandwich with a tiny bit of cheese and a little bit of slaw on the side? the server also disappeared on us. the tea was weak and didn't taste fresh. wish i had gone to huey's instead.

the burger is still the bomb. i like their consistent standards. still have never ordered anything else here but my friend ordered the spinach dip which came with chips. it proved the truth for me that one should only order the burger for true happiness at belmont. your mileage may vary but please deliver my thanks to the staff for the awesomeness of the burger.

ah that burger. i lunched here yesterday with a dear friend after some time away. well, heavens, their parking lot issue is pretty bad. still, the burger was amazing. i don't know about marrying it, but i'd have it for supper anytime i want a good hamburger. i just never have ordered anything else here. i guess its probably a goodplacefor other things. who knows?

okay, i did think of a complaint. nah, nevermind. no complaints. how can anyone complain its too cold in summer in memphis?

another vote for the burgers. i have never ordered anything else here. if i want a good cheeseburger this is where i go. forget fast food. have a belmont burger. on occasion.

park at houston's and walk here. everything on the menu is delicious from the beef kabobs to the steak fries. the waitresses are attentive and friendly. if you do not like the small parking lot do yourself a favor and park at houston's and walk here. you will be glad you did. wonderful littleplaceand they play 80's on 8 xm radio.

not even close for burgers. i read in the memphis flyer about this burger being number three what a joke. i keep hearing about what a great burger is at the belmont. just read the reviews on here about how great it is. dont get me wrong i like theplaceok and the people working are fine it's the burger being called one of the best in memphis. i went two times this month with two different people and i received a black hockey puck both times the meat was way over cooked and dry as hell. the second time i went i even ask to get another one the one i received was just plain bad.i do remember when thisplacehad a great burger but that burger has packed its bags and moved down the road.i will not go back to thisplacefor a burger ever, maybe a poor boy or a cold beer. i think who ever said thisplacewas a third in the best of memphis burger catagory was high.it's not even in the top ten list of burger places in memphis.if you dont believe me stop by and have a "hockey puck combo"

thisplacehas one of my top ten memphis favorites. their chicken livers are a religious experience. they are slap yo' mama good. great onion rings too.

comfortable and real.. thank goodness for the belmont. old school wood paneling, low ceilings, full bar, soup of the day, and a proper reuben sandwich. a real reuben...with russian dressing, not that 1000 island ripoff. try one. and the soup of the day selections are winners, no kidding. the shrimp bisque is bowl scraping good. localplacewith local folks talking about local things. great service from personable people. they even make an out-of-towner feel at home. i grew up in restaurants like this, glad to see they're still some left out there. so order up, grab a cool drink and tell the chain restaurants to suck it. parking in the rear.
