what a disappointment!. went to beauty shop today for a nice mother's day and birthday lunch celebration. we had reservations for 5 at 1:00pm. weorderedtwo appetizers at 1:10pm. after 30 minute wait, the appetizers were brought with no apology and a $10 cheese plate came with 5 pieces of bread, and very little cheese. at 2:07pm, out lunch was brought out with no apology for the wait, the server told us they ran out of homemade chips so half of the table would get lays, (said with a chuckle). when i pointed out that they had forgotten the side of fruit my sandwich came with, the server curtly let me know that the kitchen closed five minutes ago. really?
we were going to let our tip reflect our annoyance, but to no avail. she added a 20% gratuity despite the menu stating automatic gratuity was for parties of six or more. i have tried to reach a manager about the situation, but he's not available. neither am i for a return visit.

jerk for a server. my friends and i made reservations and eagerly went to beauty shop. two of our group had been there previously and had great time. one friendordereda drink she had on a previous visit and the waiter, who was sloppy and unkempt, told her he would check and see if the bartender had the ingredients for that drink. he proceeded around the table taking drink orders and came back to the first person. she said she'd like to wait and see if she could get the drink she'd requested. he very rudely said, "what i'm saying to you that you're just not understanding is that that is probably not going to happen." we were all dumbfounded as this was not at all what he'd said! he left and then reappeared with the requested drink and sloshed it down in front of her without any explanation or apology, we decided to cancel our order and leave. as we left, we told the person who had seated us how rudely we were treated. his response? "interesting." the only thing 'interesting' to me was how that waiter keeps his job if he treats every customer that way. woefully disappointed

based on reviews, i thought this would be a casual place that would fun to eat at. however, it is dressy casual and the hipsters run the spot, so be prepared. i loved the communal table, it was cozy and comfortable. the food was... different. hubbyorderedthe duck breast starter and the lamb chops for the entree. he was not happy with the portion sizes but admitted that the food was tasty. iorderedthe coconut milk wild rice soup and the choice cut ribeye with cheese potatoes and it was heavenly! huge amount of food for me and i loved every bite. we spent 115.00 and hubby came home and fixed something else to eat lol. i would go again and just be better prepared.

we just left this restaurant. the decor and ambience were great. we were really looking forward to having a good meal. however, our waitress dropped off the food and was never seen again. we didn't have the proper condiments, napkins or refill on our drinks. one if the five entrees that weorderedwasn't correct at all. we attempted to get the waitress attention but wasn't successful. when the guy came around to clear out table he asked about the food and we let him about how horrible the service was. he promptly got the manager. she was very kind and actually took care of the ticket. the food was okay and the manager made up for the poor service. considering this, i'm willing to give beauty shop another chance.

alright for sandwiches. i have eaten here twice now and decided that it just isn't that great. it's fine for sandwiches (the first time iordereda grilled cheese, which was pretty good...others in my party alsoorderedsandwiches) but everything else is overpriced for what you get. the second visit iordereda salad and it was so pitiful that i had to eat after i left the restaurant--and it was an $8.00 salad! my suggestion...bring a big wallet or a little appetite to lunch. to top it all off, the wait staff (at least two that i have had) are unpleasant and rude.

3 for lunch. went to the beauty shop today for the first time with my daughter, who lives in memphis and my best friend, nancy. it wasn't crowded at all at 1 pm and our server was very friendly and helpful. nancyorderedthe thai steak salad which she stated was somewhat over-powering with anise but the steak was cooked perfectly. daughterordereda cheeseburger which she said was good but nothing to brag about. iorderedthe "beef dip" sandwich (can't remember the name on the menu) and i asked for no horseradish. the only complaint i had was that it came on a fresh hamburger bun that could not hold up to the au jus and wound up eating most of the sandwich with a fork. a french roll would have been wonderful. the home-made chips and chipolte aioli was the best!

really cool. i live in louisiana and came here for a girls weekend with my friends. we heard about this place from a friend and we loved it. the atmosphere is really neat and it has a cool story.

weorderedsome cocktails and they were really good. for our appetizer we got the grilled peaches and they were amazing.

our entrees were tasty as well, we tried their daily specials that the service was prompt and when we asked about places we should hit up while we were in town the staff was really accommodating. all in all this was a great place to eat!

the beauty shop is one of the rare places in memphis where good food meets good design. the barrel vault ceiling, custom-made shimmering wall covering, and rustic with classic furniture mix create a place i can brag about to fellow architects and designers coming from the hip, more urban cities. some of the integrated seats and mirrors are actually a few throwbacks to the original beauty shop, the same beauty shop that priscilla presley frequented when my hair stylist robin tucker' s mother and grandmother owned it back 30 or 40 so years ago. it was quite fitting i had a lunch meeting there to discuss the upcoming aia memphis design awards with committee chairs and designers. as always, iorderedthe sugar and cayenne dusted frites. a strange combination to some but absolutely addictive to me. i thenorderedfor the first time the day's crepe special stuffed with roast beef and gruyere cheese. the simple sweetness of the crepe made the biggest impact overall. i'm not sure what other fi

moderately disappointed. i went to the beauty shop last weekend with a group of friends. i had been before and knew how great the watermelon and wings were, soorderedthat as my enree ($9). other people in my grouporderedthe steak frittes (~$30) as their entree... needless to say, they were disappointed when they saw my portion versus theirs. the steak was fair, the french fries were good but the plate looked sparse. we had a group with split checks and the waiter inconsistently charged gratuities- some of us being charged 18% and others 20% (i was charged 20% and would not have given that because the waiter was rude and pretty slow). someone in my party was also given top shelf in all of her drinks without being asked prior to which added $10 on top of her drink charges to her bill... overall decent food, awful server.
