what a disappointment!. went to beauty shop today for a nice mother's day and birthday lunch celebration. we had reservations for 5 at 1:00pm. we ordered two appetizers at 1:10pm. after 30 minute wait, the appetizers were brought with no apology and a $10 cheese plate came with 5 pieces of bread, and very little cheese. at 2:07pm, out lunch was brought out with no apology for the wait, the server told us they ran out of homemade chips so half of the table would get lays, (said with a chuckle). when i pointed out that they had forgotten the side of fruit my sandwich came with, the server curtly let me know that the kitchen closed five minutes ago. really?
we were going to let our tip reflect our annoyance, but to no avail. she added a 20% gratuity despite the menu stating automatic gratuity was for parties of six or more. i have tried to reach a manager about the situation, but he's not available. neither am i for a return visit.

good but small portions.... i will be honest i have never eaten here for dinner but we stop in for sunday brunch pretty regularly. the food is always good but i like to eat and therefore i usually have to order 2 entrees as the portions are not "man sized". so for a breakfast/lunch thing it can be pricey if you are hungry. great atmosphere and service is usually pretty darn good.

great tasting food, very expensive and small portions, great ambiance however and killer location

for all the hype, i was sorely disappointed in this place. nothing spectacular. i had particularly heard a lot about their cakes being superb. admittedly, the red velvet was decent. but everyone raves about the coconut cake, which turned out to be absolutely unimpressive - dry and flavorless. the food was just okay. i wouldn't go out of my way for it.

it was so hard to give this place a 3 star. the atmosphere was great, food presentation good, service good but the food was lacking. everything needed salt. the most disappointing meal was the shrimp and grits. the grits were clumpy and you could tell they made them with water and not cream/milk. the shrimps were also slightly over cooked. we did order some beignets and they were phenomenal.

my friend and photographer, chip chockley, does a family photo shoot for me each year and then we take him to lunch. this year i thought it would be fun to just combine the two. i chose the beauty shop because it has become a favorite of mine since moving to cooper young in 2014. i am a semi-regular at sunday brunch, especially on sunny (read: patio) days, and am often there (or next door at dkdc) on weekend nights. i've only done regular weekday lunch a few times, but felt pretty sure the monkeys could find something they liked.

the restaurant is very nice on the inside to include hair dryers, unique lighting and little shelves that bring a touch of the beauty parlor feel. the grilled cheese is alright and the same goes for the chips. the fries are excellent and so was the fish sandwich. it is flounder with jamaican slaw and comes with your choice of chips or fruit. the fries are an upcharge but they're worth it. my only issue here was that our service was slow. it's a nice lunch spot to go to with friends.

i used to brag about this place.  this was my spot i always wanted to go to in midtown.  but, after the last several visits, i am disappointed in the quality of the food.  my go-to dish was the pork carnitas.  always oh so savory.  nothing like pears or peaches (when in season my favorite) with pork, balsamic vinegar & blue cheese.  i didn't really look at the menu so i don't know if they offer fruit with it any more, but it was definitely noticed not being there, they were a bit stingy with the blue cheese & a good bit of the pork was chewy.  i enjoy the crispy edges, but not to the point where i feel like i am eating jerky.  

the other dish i had was something new.  cauliflower...  if you don't like it, i would still suggest you give this dish a try.  it was good, but seemed like it was missing something that i just couldn't put my taste-buds on, but this really could just be me.  not knocking the dish.  i would have it again & am recommending it.

the service & the atmosphere are always wonderful.  if you like to people watch, definitely an eclectic crowd there.  nice music in the background (not too loud) & it makes you feel comfortable.  

i'm not giving up on them yet, but might be a while before i go back.

review of beauty shop. experience was great! all employees are helpful and friendly from the hostess to all the servers to the bus people! didn't enjoy waffles and chicken but the presentation was nice and it's just something i didn't like. generous portions and great coffee! i'd come again and bring out of town friends for this unique restaurant! 4 1/2 stars out of 5

horrible service. went today for a bday for some girls. the waitress was not attentive had to wait 15 min before she even came back to get our order, or our check. the burger was ok, good grilled taste but the bun was huge compared to the burger. all of us had more bread on our plate than our mouths. it's ok for the "experience " buy won't waste my time again. don't go if you are on your lunch. we went at 1 not even that busy but slow on waitress service.

great find 10 years later. went here once over 10 years ago and again last night while visiting family. had a great time with good food and good service. the later kitchen hours on the weekend are a definite plus.

interesting little place. much bigger than i expected once i got inside but they do try to stuff as many people as possible into a table. there's was a line when we got there at about 10 til 10. loved the decor. brunch drinks pretty good: bloody mary - i would have preferred a bit hotter and a little less tomato juice but they didn't ask, so i assume it was an all ready made mix. mimosa - definately heavy on champagne, but i felt like i've bought better champagne at kroger. service was very fast, we had drinks within minutes of ordering and food within 5-7 minutes. i had the quiche and hash browns, both of which were very good, but luke warm. i mean the place was packed, and very loud, so i'm sure everything is premade and just being dished out, but i'd have been just as happy with waiting longer with my friends and getting something hotter. it was good luke warm, so fresh woulda been fabulous.

30 minute wait with no reservations which was not bad. waiter was knowledgeable. kitchen must have been backed up because it took nearly an hour for entrees. food was adventurous but didn't work as the pairings clashed in flavor and didn't seem well thought out. execution was off as well. the quiche? with the peking duck was refrigerator cold in the middle. we would have given the waiter a friendly heads up for future orders but he was no where to be found until the check. we are about as low maintenance of a customer as you can get and empathize with mishaps when a restaurant is having an off night... but this experience seemed like the status quo. not sure if overhyped or resting on laurels. too many great dining options available to risk another return.

cute place! i like the decor and atmosphere. the food was a 7/10. not too shabby! wouldn't mind giving it another try. the service was polite and pleasant.

overpriced !. the food was very tasty but the portions were extremely small. i don't mind paying for good food but i don't like to leave a restaurant hungry ! i thought the food was extremely over- priced for the portions i was served. i will never go back. ( we also waited 45 minutes for our food after the order was placed )
