beachcomber restaurant

combing the beach..... nestled right next to the beach on anastasia island is a little gem called beachcombers. we arrived on a sunny saturday afternoon and my parking worries were eliminated when we were greeted by a lot attended who found us a spot in the adjacent parking lot. we were greeted by a friendly hostess who seated us on the deck with an umbrella covered table and an ocean view. we ordered drinks while watching the parade of vehicles pass by the beach access. our waiter was johnny on the spot with drinks and refills. he playfully chastised the hostess for leaving a special on the board that they had run out of and recommended some other choices.
the menu offered of your typical beach bar pub fare and our order consisted of chicken tacos, fish tacos, a burger and a grouper sandwich. at our waiters suggestion we opted for an order of fries and an order onion rings to share as he stated they were quit big.
while the locals sipped their drafts on the bench outside near our table we all took turns watching the cavalcade of beach goers passing us by. surfers with their boards, bikini clad girls on beach cruisers and various jeeps and 4x4s headed to the ocean. at one point a shiny new porsche convertible passed and drew everyone's attention as it headed onto the sand. "if he can afford to own it", one leathery old salt stated, "then i guess he can afford to wreck it" as the porsche bounced down the ramp.
ourfoodarrived and the first thing i noticed was the size of the grouper sandwich, the filet was immense, covering the roll and sticking out the sides. the burger too was very generous. i took it from the silence as both were quickly devoured that they tasted as good as they looked. my wife had the chicken tacos and i the fish and i could tell that she regretted her decision when the orders came. i offered to trade or even split the plates but she declined and stated that she enjoyed her choice after all. the fish tacos were tasty as well with nice firm chunks of mahi mahi and an interesting filling including green olives.
the highpoint however, were the onion rings. i originally scoffed as i didn't think they would blend well with the tacos but was pleasantly surprised. larch rings of sweet vidalia onion dipped in batter and fried to a perfect crisp, a real treat. we finished our meals and watched the umpteenth jeep go by with the top down. if you're cruising to the beach and looking for some quick bite, drop your top and make the beachcomber your stop.

based on other reviews i expected a great burger and was highly disappointed. great atmosphere, scenery, and service but the burger was poor quality meat and similar to a frozen patty from the grocery store. the lettuce was yellow.foodis good if you're hungry but mango mango's and stir it up, both right next door have far superior food!

a first impression not very impressive.  i can not comment on thefoodor the view because we didn't get that far.  stopped by on saturday afternoon (may 14th).  it was busy, but that usually isn't an issue for us.  the issue was the hostess (yellow dress).  we were standing by the hostess stand as she approached with a scowl on her face.  she didn't greet us.  no "hi' or "i'll be right with you", nothing.  she grabbed some menus, stepped around us and went to a group behind us that had already checked in.  it was few more minutes then she reappeared at the check-in.  we seemed to be a bother to her, so when she asked for our name then told us it would be a 20 minute wait, we declined and went elsewhere.  if you are the first person people encounter at a place of business it is best to be happy and engaging, not rude.  so sorry if you were having a bad day.  :(   hope to actually try thefoodsometime as other reviews say it is great.

my waitress was awesome thefoodwas okay ordered the mahi tacos whole lot of cabbage. ordered one of the specialty beers small glass was six bucks. it was served in a dirty glass, looked like a green something on the the base of the glass. pointed it out to the waitress she apoligized i ordered another specialty beer. i did not ask for a refund or a comp. the manager proceeded to tell me she could not comp it because the base of the glass was dirty. no other greeting no hey what was the problem nothing. i advised her i did not ask for a comp or and exchange. she just walked away. waitress was awesome i gave a good tip. this is your tip manager lady you could use some manners.

this place is a dump.  it's a bar, not a restaurant, complete with regulars sitting around the u-shaped bar that's seen better days.  the table top was worn to the point that the color was worn off, the decor was bad bar stick something on the wall (which also needed to be cleaned), waitresses had no dress code whatsoever, wearing bathing suits under their t-shirts.  it's the type of place where you're afraid to touch the salt shaker.  bathrooms...lol...down the hall, out through the torn screened door, make a left and you're there....the only air conditioned place in the bar.  thefoodyou ask??? taco bell is better.  i didn't choose this place for lunch and i'll never be back.

what a view!. on the sand, view of the dunes and ocean- awesome! the two previous reviews bashed thefoodbut i just had a burger today that was awesome. hand shaped patty with great flavor, lettuce and tomato were fresh. fries were average. great place to relax and eat, can walk right up from the beach.

the beach, the sun, the beer!. you have come to the beachcomber with the right attitude! thefoodis simple and great, the beer is cold and the view is terrific! the place is a little unkept but that lends to the experience. the fried shrimp is the best. try the blackeyed pea slaw also!! they have a great breakfast as well but it does take a little time to get it after you order it. they will tell you that. so have another beer and watch the waves!

beachcomber is one of the best local restaurants. thefoodis consistently well cooked, service good, atmosphere very casual and priced very moderately. try the sunrise sandwich for breakfast, minorcan clam chowder, wings or one of the fresh seafood specials for lunch/dinner.

nice location and food!. came here with a party of 6 in march. shared wings, fries, onion rings, shrimp dip, and oysters.foodwas very good, atmosphere was nice, and this side street provides access to drive on the beach (on the actual sand) for a fee, which we did and it was very fun.

i don't know... this place was so cute. just like the reviewer before mine (as of right now).. i too like the "whole-in-the-wall and very beachy feel. that being said, thefoodwasn't that great, and there were flies everyyyyyywherrreee! it's cool they wanna leave their doors and windows open, and i understand that contributes to the great atmosphere.. but there are so many effective little things they could hang in the door ways &/or windows.. even a baggy with water and a penny! the amount of flies on our table alone was absolutely disgusting. way over ten at any/all time. our waitress was wonderful! i don't think we'll return, but i liked the idea and the service so well, i may decide if it were a different time of year and know to stay away from the over-sized, flavorless pancakes, that it would be worth another try!

very hole in the wall beachy place, mostly outdoor very casual!!!foodgood, we had buffalo shrimp, fish tacos and wings. almost allfoodis fried.

local place, good food, relaxed. do not be in a rush if going here. they have a small kitchen, so it's very common to have a long wait (20-40 min) once you place yourfoodorder (but your at the beach, so why rush). love the fish tacos & burgers! yum!
