terrible service. an hour wait for chips and pasta. food was tasty but smaller than an entree from fasta pasta. even though the view is fantastic, i won't be eating here again or recommending this to anybody.

we've been here once before and both times have loved it. the service is wonderful (although reading the other reviews ... maybe we just hot lucky!), the food is gorgeous and the atmosphere is casual but classy. the pumpkin crepes are to die for and the strawberry risotto was delicious. my duck was a little overcookef and chewy but it didnt spoil the meal the black olive tortelini is one of the nicer pasta dishes i've ever eaten. the prices are reasonable and the portions are huge! we had a three course meal and could barley finish our dessert. i would recommend bar alto to anyone looking for a nice meal that's casuaul but still a bit special.

very poor attitude. after the trauma of the recent floods, both our premier of qld and lord mayor of brisbane, have pleaded with the brisbane public to "come out and support your local businesses". my wife and i took up that challenge this weekend by visiting the powerhouse to (a) hopefully have a nice meal at either of the restaurants at the centre and then (b) to view the nikon-walkley photographic display. we normally visit watt when we are in the area, but decided to visit bar alto to sample their wares. what a poor decision that was.

it was obvious from the outset that the young attendant had not heard of the plea from either senior politician, or perhaps he thought he was too cool for us öldies". upon being seated, we were asked if we wanted tap water or something else. i have travelled the world and while it may well be tap water, it is never referred in that manner. as it was mid-afternoon, my wife preferred to have two side dishes as her mains while i was looking forward to a mains and side dish. imagine my surprise when we were told in a somewhat derogatory tone ïs that all you want" as we don't do just side dishes". i informed the attendant that i was having the rib eye fillet that i would like medium to well done. more surprise when i was told that they only serve medium rare steaks. this meal was bereft of much else and at $30 i thought i was entitled to have the steak the way i wanted it. a compromise of a medium steak was met with the same stonewwalling - we only do medium rare steaks.

eventually we were "retired to the bar side"of this so called restaurant where we were obviously better placed. perhaps the "real"business owner needs to be present to see what is happening at their establishment in these hard times. to leave the first impression of their business to somebody who is (a) unable to relate to his patrons, (b) is not willing to offer a compromise and (c) is self-effacing and äbove their station in life" even though being dressed in short sleeved shirt and jeans, can only be a negative for the business.

the snide looks we received once we were on the "pub"side were not appreciated and could have developed further if we had the inclination. the actual cash (not plastic) that i had in my wallet could most likely have paid his wages for the week, but we were obviously not hip enough for him to worry.

we have tried to answer the call of our senior politicians, but ended up with a sour taste in our mouths. by the way, our meal on the "pub"side was very nice, but next time we are in the area, we will not be venturing into bar alto unless the staff have an attitude update. a completely different experience to the many times we have been to watt.

amazing how one bad experience can put you off. the best meal and worst service. trite, snippy restaurant manager who unfortunately severed our table. arrogant, argumentative and disagreeable. never again.

disappointing. wow. this place used to be so good. haven't been there in a while and was majorly disappointed. the lemon risotto with lamb sausage meat was a strange combination of flavours (my friend ordered this meal), and my pork belly was very uninspiring. overall, a big let down.

the best pasta in brisbane. my favorite place in brisbane, for perfect modern australian/italian with a beautiful view.

bar alto is the sort of place you will find yourself going back to regularly for a casual lunch or a special event. there menu is well rounded with a selection of authentic yet modern pasta and mains. the only dish i would avoid getting is the ravioli which is delicious but often on the small side and leaves you a little disappointed. this is not the case for my standout two dishes that i almost always order - ricotta and pumpkin crespelle with burnt butter sage sauce and goat ragu pappardelle. these two dishes much be popular as they are permanent stayers on the menu.

downside is the parking can get a little hard if there is a show at the powerhouse, but the location and food more than make up for that.

in search of riverside lunchtime dining in the sun on a lovely winter day, i headed with a group of gals to bar alto at the powerhouse in lamington street at new farm. the forecourt of the powerhouse is home to jan power's farmers markets on a regular bas

it wasn't the best dinner i had in brisbane, but it's a nice place. i reckon it's more a bar than a restaurant. food wasn't bad, but the portions were (very) small.

salute. when we want to show off bris vegas to out of towners, this is where we bring them. whether its for a leisurley bottle of wine and some tasty bar snacks on a sunday arvo enjoying the view and the parade of beautiful people, or for a long lunch on the deck we have never been disappointed.

the food is italian with the occasional modern or oz twist (goat ragout & pappadelle, quail saltimbocca). the service is generally very friendly and knowledgable.

what i keep wondering is a) why can't the poeple downstairs at watt get it right b) why aren't there more places like this on the river?!

alto wow. great modern selection of australian asia fusion mals. costantly updating the menu means you will never be dissapointed. special quick menu available for those who are catching a show. tappas for nibbles and sharing also ok key. mains are great but always make sure to query any of the cool menu speak otherwise you might just be a little to supprised at what the waiter delivers.
