our experience. wow andy that is really amazing! my family & i have been going to bar alto for years & we have always found ben & the staff there to be friendly, professional & enthusiastic. in fact, ben & his team are one of the many reasons why we keep going back again & again. can't imagine ben saying anything about bar alto that is not complimentary. ben has been there for many years & appears to love his work. it is a shame you feel this way as i know we and many of our friends enjoy this restaurant, & their staff, which definitely includes ben.

insulted by an employee. went here expecting to have an enjoyable time with my wife and another couple. spoke to an employee named ben, this person was uninspiring and not very complementary about the establishment so we left.
you would think at least the employees would have a good word to say about the place.

bar alto. had a great meal before seeing a wonderful show at the powerhouse. very fast efficient service, great pasta, and they got us to the show on time. we were very pleased.

is this a real restaurant?. we arrived at bar alto at 8:25 on a tuesday night, and were told they had just shut down the kitchen. they offered us bar food after the fact, but we were already out the door. i can't understand how bar alto can even be considered a restaurant on a site such as urban spoon when they shut their kitchen before 8:30. for the record, the bar alto website says they are open "til late," which may be true for drinks, but is certainly misleading for anyone looking for dinner.

more food with the salt and oil would have been nice. also waiting over an hour for our food was not acceptable, it was a quiet night.

bar alto. had a great dinner there last week with friends, shared the giant steak and it was one of the best i have had. service was friendly and fun and scored a great table overlooking the river. definately be back.

pizza no thanks!!!!. we thought we might stay and have a pizza after a show at the powerhouse as we could see them making fresh pizza's through a window then we watched one guy who was kneading the dough stop get a grubby hankie from his pocket blow his nose put the hankie back in his pocket and continue to kneed the pizza dough ewe! and to add the insult he was only 1m from a sink.
i will not be eating there anytime soon

a great dinner experience. a great venue with good ambience and a terrific view, offering a good menu and wine list at reasonable prices. the meals were beautiful and the service attentive and friendly. whilst misleading in its description of zucchini fritters, the zucchini chips and a must. looking forward to returning.

group lunch event. we had a birthday lunch here in the private room - the views over the river are lovely, the staff provided great service and the food was delicious. a great spot to have a special event. the pasta dishes were wonderful, as well as an awesome "venetian style crespelle filled with ricotta, pumpkin, burnt sage butter" - which at my table was voted as best ordering.

had a very memorable meal at bar alto last night. sweeping statements aside, i would even go as far as to say it was one of the best meals i have ever eaten out. started with the terrine, pork chops for main and almond pannacotta for dessert. all dishes were extraordinary, and i'm pretty fussy! perfectly balanced creations of both flavour and texture. the service is also very good (just don't expect to befriend the waitstaff


flavors which left wanting more.

we had the affettato platter, the prosciutto was particularly good. the pizza was nice - much better than expected. we ate on the bar side and found the service fine.

great modern italian food. i love this restaurant... great food and service in a fantastic location!

it smells. the first thing you notice, (after four times, mind you) is the smell of fishy oil. it is like they never change the cooking oil. the food is average, and the place need some love. service is very hit and miss, and overall value for money is just not there.
