didn't work for me...noisy, expensive and not gluten friendly.. i had heard interesting things about ayden's and am a fan of top chef so thought we would give it a try on our anniversary. i know its called a kitchen and bar, but i didn't really expect a "pub" atmosphere given the prices... it was very noisy and the chairs and tables were not comfortable. that may be because they were so tiny and crowded together - my waitress wacked me while talking to the table next to us and again walking by!
we were sat quickly and poured warm tap water - strange for a fine dining establishment. the food - maybe my expectations were too high - but the menu just wasn't very much fun. it seemed expensive and limited - $23-24 for a chicken breast or pork medallion. we tried the scallops, and they were very good, but we only got 3 small to medium-sized scallops for $16! my husband had the burger, which he enjoyed and i had the lobster caesar salad. again, it tasted good, but to me a caesar salad needs some form of garlic and parmesan...this one was iceberg lettuce with bacon and oranges in a citrus-type vinegrette. it was fairly bland and i felt like asking for some salt (there's none on the table) or some garlic-aoli. maybe a parmesan crisp on top? they were fairly generous with the lobster, however.
i was also disappointed because ayden's markets itself as gluten friendly, but did not have a gluten free menu! the waitress said "most everything on the menu is gluten free" but many items clearly were not - contained breadcrumbs, etc. this is a dangerous comment to make if your customer is celiac (luckily i'm just allergic to wheat). they do not offer a gluten free pasta or bread choice (which is not difficult to make or source), and were out of anything gluten free for dessert.
as other reviewers have noted, we too felt somewhat rushed; after clearing our plates our waitress informed us there were no gluten free desserts left and brought us the cheque. she did not offer us coffee or my husband dessert. we were there for exactly one hour.
overall, i liked the flavors, but i think this place has a bit of an identity issue; if its a bar, we don't really expect comfort, but want satisfying, fun food. if its a fine dining experience, it should be more comfortable given the prices.
