🌟4/5 taste, but not worth it

nice restaurant on southbank promenade and is one of the less popular options.

we ordered the $95 5 course matador set menu and you honestly get a ridiculous amount of food. can’t imagine someone being able to consume this much. don’t order the $120 7 course set menu, the 5 course set menu already offers too much food.

the food quality is good. because we ordered the set menu we tried 9 dishes consisting of 2 entrees, 3 hors d’oeuvres, 2 salads, a main and a dessert. it’s great that you get to try a lot of things, and it definitely felt like it was more than 5 courses.

we weren’t asked how we wanted oursteakcooked, so they defaulted to medium which is a bit strange. they were happily willing to replace it with thesteakcooked at medium rare.

the waiter also touched our salad as we clearly saw the salad dressing leave a mark on her finger. not ideal.

they offer unlimited refills of salsa and chimichurri. the salsa is pretty good.

i would also avoid coming on public holidays as there is a 15% public holiday surcharge.

overall, the place is quite pricy and offers you a lot of food in the set menu. all the dishes tasted nice but there may be some hygiene issues.

my rating of 4/5 is primarily based on the taste of the food.

nice service and atmosphere. empanadas was great as well as the ceviche and cheese. thesteakwas a little tough, i couldn’t taste the aged part. i’m a huge sweet tooth but the desserts were too sweet, a bit heavy on the dulce de leche. big portions.

i went to asado recently and was very impressed with everything that was to offer, this includes excellent service, fit out and of course a lovely meal. i had the $70 banquet which comes with an empanada, chorizo, flank steak, salad, baked potatoes and a dulche de leche cookie for dessert and left very satisfied. thesteakcomes with a salsa and chimichirri sauce which compliments it perfectly. all up i would highly suggest recommend.

such an amazing atmosphere in there! love our experience here on fathers day. quick service and great recommendations by the wait staff.

you have to get thesteakand grilled chicken as it is to die for. no matter what, make sure you opt to share small tapas/meals as there is so much you have to try.

i visited asado with a colleague during a business trip. after our main waiter explained the menu and the time we had to expect for the mains, we ordered a few tapas, 2 small plates, 1 main and a side dish.
the first tapas were two tiny pieces of bread with blue cheese and jamon. the flavours were there but the portion size was pathetic.
this was following by the salted cod croquettes (which were okay but tasted a bit too oily) and a wonderful ox tongue: tender, juicy and great aromas.
the small plates were the chorico which had a very nice and intense flavour and the morcilla which was lacking that flavour.
the main was the hangersteakwhich was wonderful: nice, thick, juicy, great aromas, and half rare accompanied by a slop of melted cheese in which most likely a bit of cabbage and bacon was hidden. sorry but the side dish was a huge disappointment.

all courses (tapas, small plates and main with side dish) had their highlights (tongue, chorico, hanger steak) but also their lows (blue cheese bread, morcilla, burnt cabbage), so all in all it was okay.
the service was nice: the main waiter was a bit too sales minded, the young lady who served the tapas and the small plates a bit to disengaged but the guy who brought the main was nice and attentive and finally fixed the wobbly table.

visited this place for saturday lunch and place is surprisingly not busy. we ordered some tapas, steakand sides to share among 6 of us. food is overall yummy, however the meatball dish was unfortunately not as fresh.steakis a tad too salty for our preference too, but it was still enjoyable with the complimentary salsa sauced provided.

tried this restaurant for dinner. you choose a few tapas before your main and sides arrive. we chose the beefsteakparilla for the main, roasted potatoes with sour cream and tomato sauce and carrots with aioli and pumpkin seed.
tapas were empanadas which is lamb shoulder pie, lengua which is beef toungu and croquet. it was great overall. i recommend the food and atmosphere and staff were attentive.
the restaurant would cost you around 100-150 bucks for two people. nice place .

delicious food and wonderful service. the skirtsteakwas the standout dish - tender and cooked to perfection. make sure you try the empanadas too - a great way to start your meal. the pork was just ok, but overall a very good dining experience.

i'm so glad i finally found a wonderfulsteakrestaurant in southbank! the friendly staff made us feel very welcomed once we walked in. the rib eyesteakserved with limitless chimi churri and salsa, and the patatas (potatoes) bravas were definitely the highlights of our meal. compared with san telmo, i actually preferred asado with the speed of service, the atmosphere and the generosity in serving size.

i absolutely recommend a visit but advise against the $110 food banquet and it is shocking value for money. the food quality is excellent, highlights bring the empanadas, chorizo and the onesteakwe got was very tasty. service was good but walked out of there still hungry after sharing onesteakbetween 6 people... bit stingy by the restaurant i reckon.

my favourite meat restaurant at the moment! i want to go back and have everything else in the menu!!!!!

originally planned to go to san telmo, but with me completely forgetting to actually book it in it got booked out. on the website however it kindly suggested their sister restaurants palermo and asado which are also argentinian grills. asado it was.

first of all - location is very convenient! southbank right across the bridge from flinders st station, right next to southgate.

as you are walking towards to entrance you are passing the window display of all the different cuts that were being aged right there, and the smell of something amazing hits your nose and you know you are up for a treat here! (see one of the videos)

the warmest greeting from staff as we are welcomed and escorted to our table. talking of staff - most are from spain, south america, france, all extremely helpful, and passionate about their food (and quite handsome!! 🤫😂)

the decor is definitely asteakhouse, in your face! love it! cow skin on the walls, on the menu covers, drinks menu made of soft leather, suckling pig hanging in the open kitchen being slowly roasted, propersteakknives with asado logo - all says - we know our meat!

now to the food:
we had few starters, 3 mains and couple sides.
🔸jamon iberico - top notch!!!! the smell, taste and lingering oiliness of acorns in jamon was beautiful and very pronounced. nom nom nom 🤤
🔸 beef tartare was the most beautiful i have ever tasted (and i have had a lot both here and in france). it came with marinated little mushrooms (enoki style, but probably not!) with zingy anchovy mayo served with crispy potato chips to scoop it up. the taste, texture and freshness all together worked amazingly!
🔸grilled beef tongue with chimichurri. braised for a day, then slow cooked for 12 hours, then thinly sliced and grilled on super hot coals, served with flavoursome chimichurri sauce. it was exquisite. so tender, with lovely caramelisation. i definitely recommend to everyone, and especially those who have never tried tongue and are cautious. it doesn’t taste like offal at all!!! just delicious!

🔸now on to mains: we had suckling pig, and also lamb andsteakfrom the parilla - argentinian coal grill. ok, please try the pig!!! it was melting in mouth! didn’t know it was physically possible till that day with pork. woah!!

both lamb andsteakwere simply amazing as well. butsteakis steak. these ones were pretty damn good though!! both lamb and beef came out perfectly medium rare, slightly on the rare side, which was perfect for me and were amazingly tender and full of flavour of both the actual meat and the coals of parilla.

and lastly couple sides that deserve a mention in their own right:
🔸artichoke hearts with grilled onion, garlic and tomatoes - i could just eat it by itself!!! (i actually didn’t adjust that photo, it looked that good!)
🔸and their signature dish- roasted brussel sprouts topped with manchego cheese - flavour overload!!

papas bravas were good too, but that’s to be expected.

we have not tried deserts at all, too full. there were still few more things on the menu to try so we shall definitely be back.
so if you are looking to have a great night night with some good meat to go along with your good red - give that place a go for sure!!!
