too bright. i love the food at anthony's homeport. it was so bright it hurt our eyes-the brilliant sun. at therestaurantin ballard they have filtering shades that still allow the sun to come in but does not allow the sun to hurt your eyes. i live on the eastside but i will drive to ballard for my meals at anthony's.

after having dined here more than 40-50 times in the past decade, i can honestly say that at least a third of those experiences were glaringly sub par...and fifteen bad meals here for an average of 4 people per visit means that thousands of dollars were unnecessarily wasted. moreover, almost all of these ruined meals could have been so easily avoided had management been even moderately vigilant.

here are some examples: #1 several times we have visited when therestaurantwas at less than 33% occupancy with tons of seating options, and the hostess sat us down right next to people with infants/young children...who inevitably started crying. in point of fact, in 2009, they did this to us when the only two parties at the place were us and a family with a baby! my friends felt incredibly guilty when we cast shame on that family by asking to be moved away from them...its not like it was their fault. that, in my opinion was inexcusable. #2 i often order the fish and chips, and anyone who knows about this dish understands that it must be served hot and crispy as opposed to letting it sit until luke warm and soggy. yet at least 50% of the time, i get it after it has sat a long time...several times i have actually had to hunt my waitress down to inform her that my fish is sitting and getting cold in plain sight on the counter. #3 there are many instances of poor hygiene. like a previous reviewer has stated, i have seen at the gentleman pouring water at tables with his fingers touching the rim of the glass time and time again, not only for us but for neighboring tables. several times i have even had them pick up my empty water glass with their finger all the way inside my glass in order to move it to my place setting when seating our party! this is inexcusable...even mcdonalds workers know not to do this. also, i have had waiters drag their sleeve over my food when reaching across the table. and one time when i asked for a straw the waiter handed it to me with his bare hand....if they are going to do this, why on earth don't they provide wrapped straws? #4 i get really bothered when i order a beer, and i see the bartender pour it right away, and then the waitress lets it sit for ten or so minutes until it is semi flat. this happens every single visit....without fail.

have eaten at anthony's home port for the last 15 years. over the last 3 years therestauranthas continually declined in its service and the quality of the food. example: dined there this week. the tab: $100.00+ for two with wine. service was terrible. the food arrived almost cold and the potatoes were not cooked through. as a matter of fact one of the other staff people delivered the food for our server. my wife's food was over breaded and over salted. later that night we both suffered indigestion and heart burn ( not the nice type) from the food. it is always a sad time when a really, really goodrestaurantslips into a down turn. the anthony's in kirkland is a mess and we consider our meal at $100.00 + a real con to say nothing about the indigestion. john "a food critic with a heart."

a racket restaurant. if you want a nice seafood dinner on the water in gigharbor, make a tuna sandwich at home and then walk the wharf. anthony's is the place for a mediocre meal with amateur service . except for the warm, crusty bread and sky high prices, the meal would be perfectly forgettable. we were not demanding, had no special requests, did not complain and therestaurantwas not crowded. no excuses except premeditated con ... and we fell for it! enjoy the views without an anthony's menu!!!

terrible service/average food. this last sunday was my mother's 59th birthday, and we decided, despite the economy, to make it a nice evening out for her. you see, my father is currently being treated for cancer, with my mother acting as his faithful nurse, so we all felt she deserved a special night out. our family has dined at anthony's many times over the past 25 or so years, so therestaurantwas not "new" to us. we had made a reservation for 6pm and, despite a virtually empty restaurant, we were asked to wait in the lobby for almost 10 minutes before we were seated. our party consisted of 6 adults, 2 children, and a toddler. once we were seated at our table, it was 10-15 minutes before our waitress came to ask what we would like to drink. she was unfriendly and disinterested... it took everything she had to squeak out a "you're welcome" in response to the "thank you"s we readily said. our food was ok, although the salads were very soggy, but our greatest disappointment came from anthony's discontinuation of their sourdough bread bowls, which have been replaced with a cheaper loaf. the wine glasses were filled less than halfway full (at over $6 per glass!), and we were never once offered a refill of our drinks by our waitress. anthony's has apparently also discontinued it's policy of offering free desserts to customers having birthdays, anniversaries, etc... which our waitress gave the "shocked" answer about when we asked her, saying she had never seen that "once in the years she'd been working there!" i informed her i was a former employee, and that i knew otherwise... the waitress then, because the bill was coming out and she knew she had offended, brought my 59 year old mother out a child's sundae (with a forced smile), in an attempt to gain our favor. but we all saw what her actions were, a desperate attempt to squeeze a decent tip out of a large party she had greatly disappointed. our family has decided to skip anthony's from now on... don't bother!!!
