a waste of time. we made an effort to visit the gastrobar this past saturday. honestly, it is over-hyped and not great quality. very slow service when only 7 people were in the entire restaurant. bar tender was nice but not attentive. datz is a better alternative.

a highlight on their menu is their kurrant bramble which is a twist on dick bradsell’s cocktail that was first featured at fred’s in london in the early 1980’s. this sexy libation features one of my favorites, damrak gin, with fresh blackberries served over crushed ice and laced with crème de mure & cassis.

“food roulette.". we were all really hungry and were in a have fun mood so we went in and “ordered for all.”

we ordered such that we had enough for everyone to try some even if it meant that we ordered from 1 - 10 orders of each item.

everyone got to pick one item and as many orders as it would take for all to try.
when the bill arrived, we all paid our share of the total. we call it “food roulette.”

so, the picks of the players were:
beer battered shrimp;
braised pork belly with kimchi;
roast pork stack;
baked goat cheese;
braised pork belly bowl;
buddy brew coffee ice cream and
chocolate indulgence.

as you can see we were all on a pork frenzy that night.
you don’t want to know what the bill was, and we all paid our even share. wasn't really all that much.

we all got to try everything and some liked all and some were a little iffy about a couple of the items. but i can say this was a real fun food game and experience for a group of friends.

terrible!!. so i ordered an appetizer, drink, and entree. my drink and entree never came. the waiter thinks they delivered the entree to the wrong table and no one said anything. if he had been a good waiter and came around to check on us, maybe he would have noticed i had no food. (i had to track him down to get a refill of my water). my drink was never made at all...he seemed confused about why. we were ready to leave so i just paid for the appetizer and left hungry.

worst service ever. you're lucky if you even get your food.

this was a stop after seeing a play at straz. we had planned to meet up with 12 people to celebrate a birthday here later that week. we immediately cancelled it and are going somewhere else. none of us will frequent this place again.

every once in a while, you cross paths with someone who has a personality that just lights up a room. they are passionate about their craft and you can see it in their eyes and hear it in their voice. from the moment i met justin gray three years ago, i knew right away that he was someone special. i had just finished up a meeting at tebella on davis island and was walking around looking for a place to grab a late lunch. i spotted a place called slice and after browsing their menu, i decided to stay and eat. justin was tending bar and greeted me as soon as i walked in. seeing that it was my first time, he went over the menu and suggested a few items. i was blown away by his attentiveness and personality. we have remained in touch since then and i have watched him move on and become, in my opinion, one of tampa’s best bartenders and my personal favorite bartender. justin is now at anise global gastrobar and has been there since it made it debut in downtown tampa last year. anise is in my

came back last week with a friend from thailand. while i enjoyed the red curry chicken wings as usual, the deviled eggs were so-so and my friend said the soup that she had, tasted like something that you would make with ingredients from a can or a box.

-----26 oct, 2013-----

i went this afternoon and sat out front with my dog while noshing on the red curry coconut wings - which are out of this world! they're gooey and sticky with curry and coconut, but the skin is crispy and crunchy, and the chicken not overcooked. yum yum yum. the brble cocktail was ok but i will try others next time. my server was kind enough to bring out a bowl of water for my dog. it was a pleasant way to spend an hour this afternoon, people watching and looking across the river at the university of tampa.

went as the first stop on the tampa downtown dishcrawl. loved the coconut curry chicken wings; the stinky buns were ok. i gave my tater tots to someone in my group as they tasted bland to me. i will go back to try anise on its own.

is this what passes as a trendy gastropub in tampa? inexperienced bartenders and mediocre food. no thanks. i wish downtown tampa would get some decent restaurants, but unfortunately it does not seem that this will happen.

when you are looking for a delicious and unique meal look no further ! anise global gastrobar provides a dinning experience like no place else in tampa! the decor, styling, and aromas are as intoxicating as their incredible drinks. we had the pleasure of hanging out with sing, the owner, and mary, the executive chef, who gave us some insights on the restaurants styling and frequent menu changes/addition. where most restaurants have a pretty standard menu that has a schedule of yearly changes, anise is always experimenting with new things. “we change the menu whenever we feel inspired. ” -mary, executive chef. our customers love food, and so do we so why not share that love through our chef’s menu friday and saturday to test new dishes. with limited storage space it is critical that only the most delicious of delicious make it to the menu. there are some cornerstone dishes such as their famous stinky bunz, which were a huge success on their original food truck, jap chae korean noodles,

meh!. it's not a bad addition to the tampa eating scene, but it promises more than it delivers. the best things on the menu are the tacos (though overpriced for two relatively small ones), while the biggest disappointments are the noodle dishes. i think that in the end what is missing are the big, savory flavors that we're anticipated. also, watch out for beers not on the menu - got some stout in what amounted to a stemless wineglass for $9! finally. if you're going to include a 20% gratuity for a party of six say so...

real solid. anise is firing on all cylinders--the specialty drinks i've had have all been excellent, and there are a number of unique and fantastic food items on the menu, including the truffle tots and those incredible stinky bunz! the shrimp bunz are my favorite. the cool atmosphere and very good staff make this place my first choice for happy hour or late night.

hello lilyonthelam.com readers: my name is lily … and i am in love … with tater tots. seriously, there is rarely a tot i don't like.  they are perfect little rounded cubes of potato-ey goodness.  if you hate tater tots, chances are i probably will hate you.  i'm sorry, but it's true. so when i see tater tots on a menu, i have to have them.  this past weekend was a two-tot weekend.  i went to two restaurants with tater tots on the menu.  had i died and gone to tater tot heaven?? for lilyonthelam, i have done comparison posts on pot pies, strawberry shortcakes, pumpkin pies and other delights … so it is about time i did a "tater tot duel" post. ladies and gentlemen … in this corner of the ring … the duck fat fried tater tots from merchants restaurant in nashville, tennessee … the picture above is a half-order of duck fat tater tots with chipotle mayo, béarnaise sauce and good old classic ketchup.  the chipotle mayo was my favorite.  a chipotle ketchup would have been a nice addition as w

excellent!. my daughter and i went last night after seeing a play at the straz center. i've never been to a gastropub and was anxious to experience it. well...it was what i expected, meaning an interesting combination of ingredients to create (not just cook) a very pleasant and delicious dining experience. truffle tater tots??? wow, what an interesting combination! the baked goat cheese was served with a small loaf of crusty bread and was fabulous! the décor is comforable and tasteful. the service was excellent with no pressure from them if you just want to linger and chat. we also had the opportunity to chat with the owner who was very personable and shared some experiences with us. lastly, i fell the prices are reasonable. i can't wait to go back.
