anise, should have gone to taps. at first glace the décor is very impressive. the rest was uninspired from there. lunch on saturday had about 5 people in the dining room. the waiter was vacant at best with service and tea re-fills. we ordered an appetizer of the truffle tater tots. the tater tots were not made at the restaurant, but rather frozen. (you can tell by the fact that all of the tots were identical). the sauce on the side was supposed to be truffle infused, but all i tasted was a hint of cucumber in the yogurt. then, my favorite part, the delivery of our main courses tookplaceover 7-9 minutes. when i asked, why the delay, and the piecemeal service the apathetic waiter, and hostess said that the kitchen does not have much room, and the courses could not be completed at one time. now, let's think about that, here is a "tasting" menu, that can not complete three dishes at one time. remember, there were only 5 diners there. with that logic, how could the "chef" handle 20-30 patrons on a busy night. but what about my meal?the cellophane noodles were overwhelmed by a bottled sauce, and the chicken was dry. when we explained our dissatisfaction with the meal, the apathetic waiter, and hostess simply ignored our complaints. we paid the bill, and left with a thought that if we are going to spend $50 to $60 dollars for three (not a great expense, but still), i would have been better off at p.f. changs.

thisplacewas the bomb! my boyfriend and i are in town for a work trip. we walked in a made a joke about how in a year of dating we never sit at a table; so they gave us a great table! pair that with a good beer selection and some damn good red curry chicken; you've got a good time!

everything very good, nothing great

anise is in a beautiful space vacated by less successful restaurants. it looks like anise has found the right recipe to make theplacea success.

servers are very casual and friendly although efficiency could be tightened up a bit.

food is mostly of the small plate and sharing variety. the sticky bunz were good and we especially enjoyed the shrimp one. the beef bowl and the tacos were good. the roasted beet salad was ok and not great value. drinks during the happy hour are nice and good value.

overall, anise is a very solid effort. being convenient to the straz center, it is a really good spot for pre-theater dining.

stopped in for lunch on friday. rather dead unsure why but happy it was empty. had great discussion and service from the bartender. went ahead and ordered the prize meal "sticky bunz". had three pork belly, fried zucchini and chili beef. awesome the pork belly and fried zucchini loaded with flavor well balanced. inexpensive too. still had a hankering for something small and had the deviled eggs. why hasn't anyone eggs put bacon on deviled eggs? can i stress thisplaceis awesome... a must stop if in downtown tampa.

even with the liver of a drunken sailor. let me not cry or get emotional. let me try to be less fabulous. but i must. anise... what is anise to me since i have lived downtown and it became my “cheers”? i have visited anise way too many times. i have just thought about linking my personal savings account so that kevin, the owner, can just go ahead and deduct what he must as direct payment. i have promised myself to keep trying new places in tampa and not return for a while, but addiction is addiction and i just can’t help myself. what do i adore about anise? i will try to break it down without breaking down. i love ny pisco sours. they are not in the menu... but do ask for them... they are sexy and layered. like i am, and if you are bothering to read this... you are. get personal. anise is, most likely, the onlyplacei have found in tampa where the ny piscos are worth it. i love the really personal bartending of ryan, and justin and drew... they get personal... they know what you want even before you, yourself, have a clue you have craved that. but if you are into deep conversation at the bar, they are service that is invisible. how do you get your refill without interrupting a great conversation? i don’t know. but you do! okay, i have tried all the specialty drinks... yes, the whole menu of drinks because i carry the liver of an alcoholic sailor and own the curiosity of pandora’s grandmother. yes, i have made faces... i am not into girly sweet stuff... i might look like a lady and act like one but i drink like a lonesome cowboy without the benefit of stress relieving smoking. even the very girly drinks are great. and then there are these dedicated people behind the incredibly stored with spirits bar...and they take their time crafting the drinks and stirring your round ice, and smiling pensively over your drink as if they knew something you don’t know... and they do. oh, they do!... and the drinks do taste like a secret... forget the chic décor, and the “your are too hot for this life” vibe of the place--- let’s talk grub. fancy? drunk food? i love: the stinky buntz (yes, all 4 of them), the lobster mac and cheese, the truffle tots, the deviled eggs, the manchego sandwich, the burger, the porkbelly bowl, the chili bowl. all good. and again, because it is so close to me, i have tried everything...and when my steak or my low carb cauliflower is anything but what i wanted (has happened only once in 2 years of binging) there is no face. it disappears and a new one shows up. no questions from a server whose eyes say “i aim to please”---fifty shades of gray--- loving attitude.

terrible!!. so i ordered an appetizer, drink, and entree. my drink and entree never came. the waiter thinks they delivered the entree to the wrong table and no one said anything. if he had been a good waiter and came around to check on us, maybe he would have noticed i had no food. (i had to track him down to get a refill of my water). my drink was never made at all...he seemed confused about why. we were ready to leave so i just paid for the appetizer and left hungry.

worst service ever. you're lucky if you even get your food.

this was a stop after seeing a play at straz. we had planned to meet up with 12 people to celebrate a birthday here later that week. we immediately cancelled it and are going somewhere else. none of us will frequent thisplaceagain.

every once in a while, you cross paths with someone who has a personality that just lights up a room. they are passionate about their craft and you can see it in their eyes and hear it in their voice. from the moment i met justin gray three years ago, i knew right away that he was someone special. i had just finished up a meeting at tebella on davis island and was walking around looking for aplaceto grab a late lunch. i spotted aplacecalled slice and after browsing their menu, i decided to stay and eat. justin was tending bar and greeted me as soon as i walked in. seeing that it was my first time, he went over the menu and suggested a few items. i was blown away by his attentiveness and personality. we have remained in touch since then and i have watched him move on and become, in my opinion, one of tampa’s best bartenders and my personal favorite bartender. justin is now at anise global gastrobar and has been there since it made it debut in downtown tampa last year. anise is in my

when you are looking for a delicious and unique meal look no further ! anise global gastrobar provides a dinning experience like noplaceelse in tampa! the decor, styling, and aromas are as intoxicating as their incredible drinks. we had the pleasure of hanging out with sing, the owner, and mary, the executive chef, who gave us some insights on the restaurants styling and frequent menu changes/addition. where most restaurants have a pretty standard menu that has a schedule of yearly changes, anise is always experimenting with new things. “we change the menu whenever we feel inspired. ” -mary, executive chef. our customers love food, and so do we so why not share that love through our chef’s menu friday and saturday to test new dishes. with limited storage space it is critical that only the most delicious of delicious make it to the menu. there are some cornerstone dishes such as their famous stinky bunz, which were a huge success on their original food truck, jap chae korean noodles,

the cuisine is not the only thing you will enjoy. being from new york i am always on the look out for new hot spots that provide that “city” feel. no, i can’t say this is just like being in a restaurant in nyc. its too spacious and has sprawling ceilings, but also because on friday night their were seats open. it did feel rather warm in the space, but i think that is because the air conditioner needed to be turned up and not because of the crowds body heat. either way, thisplacereminded me of a high end bar with very interesting decor that i look for when bar hopping in nyc.
