why are all those stuffed heads staring at me?

angelo’s has been a fort worth fixture for many years. the interior looks like it hasn’t been remodeled since lbj was president. it sort of feels like an old bowling alley with all the lanes removed and colonel mustard’s hunting trophies stuck up on the walls.

staff are all friendly and welcoming.

this is atexasbarbecue parlor. they do a few other things, but it’s mostly about the smoked meat. the ribs and the brisket were extremely tender, but i could have used a little more spice as a rub on the meat. my wife got a half chicken which was very good. our daughter got the brisket tacos which were quite tasty.

it wasn’t the best barbecue i’ve ever had, but it was good. and the throw-back atmosphere is a lot of fun.

supremely retro with good brisket. when i arrived in fort worth, everyone told me that i needed to try railhead bbq. i decided to try the place with the most 2nd place votes, and that is how i arrived at angelo's. i cannot imagine this place had changed much in the past 50 years. the bbq was good, but the decor was the biggest surprise. there are literally scores of animal mounts in the restaurant. this place is the real deal. it was not designed to look like a realtexasrestaurant---it is a realtexasbbq restaurant.

after seeing that 84% of people liked this restaurant, my mom and i figured sure why not? $35 dollars later, the only thing we like on our plates is the brisket and beans. the coleslaw and potato salad are gross and even though they just opened 15 min ago, their meat tastes very dry and bleh. the sausage doesn't even taste like sausage... it tastes like some weird deer-demon hybrid. i don't know who the 84% are, but they can't be texans if they think this restaurant shows the best oftexasbbq.

the sign out front says "greattexasbar-b-que," and they're not lying. i don't know if i'll ever get a chance to go back to angelo's, but i certainly hope so.

okay... at best. i have been to angelo's twice. the first time was better than the second. i am not one of those people who says it bad and has their opinion stuck and thinks everyone else doesn't know anything. i just haven't had good experiance with them. i was born in oklahoma and partially raised there and i have had a big share of bar-b-que tastes and millions of different sauces. since ok is inbetweentexasand kansas city i have had both and angelo's wasn't either.

angelo's atexasclassic in the same sense as kreuz market, sonny bryans, and the salt lick. for those folks whose idea of barbecue is sweet ketchup, you might be disappointed in authentictexasbarbecue. i always get a brisket sandwich, a side of sausage, and a side of slaw. an ice cold goblet of beer. all is well in the world.

i have to disagree with any negative reviews. this place is an institution on ft worh. i was traveling in the dallas/ft worth area and a associate suggested angelos. any self respecting man who loves bbq and cold beer will enjoy the rugged interior, cafeteria style, and friendly service. not to mention a solid serving oftexasbeef brisket. i would suggest a ribs and brisket combo. great choice. will be back
