three days in texas, one goal: find the best texas style bbq in the dallas / fort worth area.   not only did we find what we believe to be among the best bbq in the area but to our surprise, we also ate perhaps the best bbq of our lives...in dallas texas!!! stop 1:angelo'sin fort worth...overall grade b+

okay... at best. i have been toangelo'stwice. the first time was better than the second. i am not one of those people who says it bad and has their opinion stuck and thinks everyone else doesn't know anything. i just haven't had good experiance with them. i was born in oklahoma and partially raised there and i have had a big share of bar-b-que tastes and millions of different sauces. since ok is inbetween texas and kansas city i have had both andangelo'swasn't either.

c'mon man!. i decided to stop atangelo'swhile in fort worth. the place is out of the way and looks not so nice from the outside. i went in anyway and i am glad i did.

i sat at the bar, had a huge beer and talked with some locals and the bartender. everyone was very nice and pleasant. the bartender recommended ribs and brisket for dinner which turned out to be awesome. she then brought over some smoked ham, turkey and 2 different types of sausage....all great!

i cant wait to go back for another round or two!

old school all day. i did not grow up in the dfw, but, had i, it would appear thatangelo'sis probably exactly the same as it was when i was born 40 some odd years ago. this is as old school as it gets. divider trays, white bread, cafeteria style dining, wood paneling, a stuffed bear that greats you, and simple tasty food with simple beer.

angelo's is my second favorite que after the railhead, a close second. the brisket is a bit sweeter than some, the sides are solid, but not memorable. but that whole lunch comes together so well. the potato salad is creamy and hearty, the baked beans have just enough smoke, and the simple white bread seems tough on paper, but in real life it works so well as a vehicle to get the bbq in your mouth or to soak-up that baked bean sauce.

love it! killer brisket. i am in the dfw 2-3 weeks/year. i have to stop here and railhead.

used to be good bbq. multiple visits over the years. food was always decent. ribs can be exceptional.
recently had lunch here on a saturday afternoon. what a let down. the staff was surly. the brisket was mushy and had no discernible flavor. sides were also marginal. will have to letangelo'srest for a while. will not hurry back.

update 2017; i have been back multiple times since the original review. the brisket has been average to excellent, the sides are still marginal and i will certainly return

oh well. for several years now a good friend has recommended i stop by for some bbq and i kept wondering why nobody in my family had ever mentioned it. it was only after going that i found out why. i've said in my reviews before that i almost hate to review some bbq places because the flavors and textures are so subjective that one person's favorite might be garbage to another.angelo'sfell closer to good than bad for me but still ranks as a disapointment.
ok, first bad sign was that on this saturday afternoon the tvs were all turned to the rangers/yankees playoff game but no sound! alright, stick with the food, fine. being my first trip i wanted to taste a couple of things so i ordered the combo plate. $15?......really? anyway, not much response to my request to leave off the included cole slaw but i can eat around it, fine. on to the main event, the meat. i sat down and dug into the sausage links first. nice flavor but an almost undercooked texture gave me pause. sauce is a nice dark, savory flavor though. like that alot. next up were the ribs. i have no problem at all with the flavor but the consistency was terrible. half of what i got was fat and like i said, tastes differ on this but you gotta have a limit. i like a little fat in my ribeye, a little bit here and there is tasty, but this was over the top. it was off-putting and with the nice old school decor and comfortable cowtown crowd i was just hoping to be wow-ed.
maybe another visit is in order. another cut of meat might be their specialty. if that happens i'll be happy to sway back over to "like".

love.angelo'sis fantastic! the ribs and sausage are the best and the brisket is great. they've got the best sides of any barbecue place i've been to.

just like home. i love this place! the menu is short, but good. the bbq is always just right....so what you have to ask for bbq sauce.....whats wrong with asking....i always get some and that is what matters. good food, pleasant folks, and a good place to meet friends...no matter how many and you can stay 'til they lock up and i suspect that if you were real quite you could spend the night!!! love it !!! a true original texan place to eat, meet, and greet!

good good good. i love the barbq @angelo'sand the bbq sauce. even though some have stolen recipes fromangelo'sthe sauce @angelo'sremains the best. ribs are my favorite. everything here is prepared correctly! folks there are friendly and smile lots, unless they run out of ribs!!!

i would stick to the sandwiches. i enjoyed many take-out sandwiches fromangelo'swhile working in fort worth, but ate few meals in the restaurant itself. after an absence of several years, we recently stopped by for lunch and were mildly disappointed. the casual atmosphere and friendly employees are still there and the brisket was excellent. but the sides were quite bland and seemed to take on the identity of the disposable serving containers and plastic utensils. even the barbecue sauce seemed overly mild. i still recommend the place but next time i will stick to the sandwiches.

too much hype. it has to be really bad barbecue for me not to like it, andangelo'sis by far not bad barbecue, but i have to say it was just a run of the mill bbq experience for me. aside from its historical significance i would say there are at least 15 other spots within a 10 mile radius that rank right next to it.

decreased quality. approximately 5-6 years ago, i noticed a negative change in the quality of the bbq being served. i don't know what the cause is, but i no longer considerangelo'sa "must stop joint"......

texas bb-q. i've eaten atangelo'stwice, the food is average at best.

blah bbq. i finally went toangelo'sthis weekend and i can't understand why it gets such good reviews. it was one of the worst places i've ever been to and my boyfriend ended up sick afterwards. i got the brisket and the pork ribs; both lacked any smoky flavor and tasted stale - like they had been sitting on the steam table under plastic wrap for too long. i couldn't taste any rub on the meat despite their marketing of a dry rub. i had to pour all of their thin, watery sauce on the meat just to give it some semblance of flavor. sides were just standard. yet further confirmation for me that there is no good bbq to be had in the dfw area. what is up with that? looks like i'll have to make the drive south if i want any good 'cue.

another solid meal atangelo'swas had. the brsiket was still tender and smoky, and the ribs were still flavorful and meaty. there was a tad too much fat in the ribs that had to be picked around, but the tenderness and crust were spot on. either way, meat

childhood memories. i love angelo's! i could drink their sauce! of course, i am a little biased, i was raised onangelo'sbut for over 30 years it has remaide true to taste and service! a true fort worth restaurant!
