bad service, bad food.. to start with, thetablethey sat us was too small, barely fit two people and we were five. we didn't have space for our food and when i asked the hostess for a biggertableshe said they have another reservations for those tables but no one showed up .. very disappointing.
the waiters were not informed or had any knowledge of the menu or restaurant.
except for the margaritas (they were good). there was nothing special about the food. typically mexican food is rich in flavours and spices but this food lacked flavor and came off as just spicy with no substance. not coming back.

bland and boring. 4 of us decided to try this restaurant for a birthday. we made reservations for 6:15pm on a friday, as we were told between 6:30 – 9:00pm is their blackout period – not a huge deal. when we arrived we were seated in the “bar area” which is brighter than the rest of the restaurant due to the glass roof (not a bad thing) but we thought we would have had a bettertablesince we made a reservation? thetablewas round and quite small for 4 people to fully enjoy themselves. our waitress came over right away and was excellent. she told us what drinks were the best and what type of food was most popular. we all started with margaritas, which were tasty, but pricey for the size (approximately 3 – 4oz (only 1oz of tequila)) for $8.00. between the 4 of us, we ordered thetableside guacamole. we found this entertaining while it was made in front of us but it was extremely bland, i love guacamole and can make a better tasting bowl than this "mexican" restaurant. we then had the ginger coconut shrimp – delicious, but how you can you really mess that up? we also had another appetizer, which i cannot remember the name maybe similar to the empanadas. they were ok, but small. we then ordered 12 tacos (4 cod, 4 beef and 4 pork). they all tasted the same, which was bland. this place has no flavor and it is overpriced. i was expecting a lot more, as i heard great things about it. if you are into over paying for bland boring food, then this is the place for you. i would not recommend this to my friends nor would i go back.

terrible service and they lie about your food

we went to anejo - terrible service and a rip off! we went as a group and we ordered margaritas, guacamole, tacos, and their grilled cactus and meat bowl. i specifically asked for cactus and the waitress, brooke, recommended the cactus and meat dish ($30/bowl). when i got the dish i noticed it didn’t have cactus at all in it. i asked the waitress brooke and all she said that wasn’t her fault. the kitchen ran out. i asked why she didn’t advise me of that prior to and she just continued to blame it on the kitchen. effectively anejo staff lied about the ingredients in the dish and wanted me to pay full price for my meal. her manager, andrew sherbut, general manager, refused to come to thetableto talk to us and instead got the waitress to deliver a message that the meal would be ‘discounted’. also there was no apology from the staff for this intentional withholding of information. if you are looking for crappy customer service, stuck up management and deceitful chefs- anejo is your place. also make sure you check your food as they will charge you full price for half the ingredients.

pro: food! tacos are amazing
con: very busy

we visited on sat night. they were very very busy but we luckily didn't need to wait.

we tried salsa, chicken wings, and tacos. we liked all the food! they were all delicious.

the salsa was served on stone bowl and the server mush it up at thetablein front of you. they ask your preference of spiciness, so you can adjust the heat which was very nice. also, you can tell what's in it since they make it in front of you. it was made with simple ingredients and it was very fresh!

i usually like guacamole as well, but it seemed like their guacamole has tomato in it and it was very similar to salsa so we only got salsa in this time.

wings were decent, too!

for tacos, i really liked them. we tried beef, pork, chorizo, i believe. they were all so tasty, the filling was so big and seasoned just right. the taco wrapper, you can choose from wheat or corn. we went for corn and it was very good.

we didn't try and cocktail or tequila, but they have big alcohols selection so we will definitely try next time!

over all, i loved it!!

anejo has an amazing happy hour - if your a tequila drinker make sure to come for it ! we shared the jug of guava margarita it was good, quite thick and reminded me of a smoothie but the flavour was good and pretty much masked any of the tequila taste. thetableside guacamole is good and fun to share. the churros were also a hit.

ambiance is beautiful, but it is tight quarters so sitting is not all that comfortable. i am 5 foot 6 and found that the bench where i sat was low and thetablewas uncomfortably high to eat off of.

that being said, our server was wonderful and all their margaritas (don't expect frozen- they only make classics) can be made without alcohol.

my friend and i shared the guacamole-yum! and then we both had assorted taco trios. everything came out delicious! we also tried the mexican rice which was a bit spicy for us, but had i thought to order a touch of sour cream it would have been perfect.

i wouldn't recommend this for an intimate dining experience as there is no privacy, but for dinner with a friend i would go again and asked to be sat at a different type of table.

añejo is definitely somewhere you should try at least once, if only for theirtableside guac. it's smooth and creamy, but chunky and flavourful, with just the right amount of heat and texture. i like their tacos and other offerings, but the guac is usually the main reason i'll go (and sit and drink four beers with friends).

i came here with my girlfriends on a friday night and we got atableright away even though it was busy and packed. service was great and prompt. we had the guac, seafood platter, basa, chicken, and beef tacos. the basa tacos were a disappointment because it was deep fried but the others were pretty good. the fresh guac was amazing! the seafood platter made my friend sick and i think it's because their seafood is not fresh.. but all in all, will come back for their guac and tacos!

made a reservation for my boyfriends birthday. when we got in we were greeting with an extremely unfriendly hostesses who stared at us with disgust for a good minute. got to our table, ordered drinks which took about 20 minutes. our waiter was in such a rush (not busy at all) and we had to keep asking him to come back so we could finally order food. i think the portions are a little small for the price. throughout the night, we were forgotten about and left with empty glasses on ourtablewith our waiter our of sight. towards the end of the night i think it took him honestly 30 minutes for him to come over so we could pay our bill. that is unacceptable to me "busy" or not. the restaurant is super small and if the wait staff can't handle 1-2 tables then maybe you should upsize or train your staff? i'm not sure if it is the "thing" now to act like you don't care or something when serving and greeting customers, but the way the staff acted here was just br pleasant at all! i just feel like our business was not appreciated. after an $85 bill for 4 drinks and 2 orders of small portioned tacos. i think it's our last visit, sorry! visit blanca if you want great service and reasonably portioned and priced food and drinks.

amazing! get the guacamole! chilli coconut margaritas are the best (if you like spice).

the bf and i came here on a wednesday night. we missed happy hour (3-5) but will go back for that for sure.

service was stellar. friendly greeting at the door and we even managed to snag a spot on the patio. our server was very friendly and checked on us often. we ordered a watermelon (summer special) margarita and a strawberry rhubarb margarita. we also ordered the fresh guacamole. this is made right at your table, that is how fresh it is. it isn't on the menu though. we just saw that nearly everytablehad it so we needed to try it. it was worth it at $14.00. the server that made the guacamole at ourtablewas friendly and very funny. we really felt like we were spoiled by good service here.

i got the marinated prawn tacos and the bf got the chicken. both were amazing and after the guac we were both stuffed. wanted to try the churro but just couldn't.

only two negatives were they were out of the guava margarita, and the bf got the last strawberry rhubarb. we were there around 7pm so i feel like that was a bit early to run out of beverage mixings. also, though my prawns were delicious they were a little on the dry side. would order them again though.

i provided a review on opentablein the fall, and said i would never go back. however i ended up going for new years because a friend had a reservation he could not cancel... although the service was better (the place was not busy which likely helped) the food was bland and it was disappointing to walk out hungry and with a lighter wallet.
i will however say the margaritas are always on point - but i don't feel for the 2-3 bland tacos and few glasses of margs warranted the bill i paid.

especially with vday around the corner, i certainly hope this restaurant is able to step up it's game so people can start getting their money's worth again.

my opentablereview for a sept 2015 visit:
i have been to this restaurant many times since it opened. each time something does not go well - whether it be wait times on reservations, not enough seats or splitting up reservations without telling us, or being told they can't do separate bills, with attitude. the food is usually quite good, and the margaritas flow - perhaps this is what has us overlooking the service and overall experience each time. this time however, it will not be overlooked. we had a 9:00 pm reservation for 4 people, and showed up at 8:45 pm anticipating having to wait until our reservation time, partially hoping ourtablewould be ready early, but not wanting the restaurant to have to wait on us or risk losing our reservation by being late. it was after 9:30 pm when we asked when we would be seated, and were told the walk intablewas not done yet, and they had not been told they had limited time. at 9:45 pm we were seated at a temporary table, to be moved once ours was open, offering one round on the house. after 20 minutes of waiting for our drinks we ordered 2 appies for thetableand mains for half the party (and they were out of fish tacos). after another long wait, the main came, well before the appies - leaving mouths empty. needless to say, we were very disappointed and spoke with the manager, who offered an "i'm sorry" and left thetableabruptly.
1) reservations should be seated within 15 mins before or after their reservation - just as our reservation would be given away if we ended up being later than 15 minutes.
2) if you are going to take walk ins when you have scheduled dinner reservations, you should absolutely be advising them of the time restriction - not just for the benefit of the reserved party, but also so the people who walk in do not suddenly get ambushed with being rushed out the door.
3) we all work hard for our money, especially in this economy. you want ours, do your job and at minimum provide proper customer service.

overly expensive for what you get, but none the less an interesting restaurant. i love the guac and salsa made attableside, and the happy hour specials are great. the amount of competition they have is growing steadily in calgary.

i had one of my more notable experiences here in all the wrong ways. this took place some time ago but it was so bad i was determined to leave a review. i was with a few friends.. we had gone to the lilac festival and decided to come here because it was on our way. it was a party of 6 and it didn't take long for us to be seated. we ordered margaritas and waited to order our food. we did not see anyone for another 15 minutes ... our server had seemingly forgotten we had already ordered drinks and asked us what we wanted to drink again when she came to get our food orders. we placed those, she apologised and brought our drinks pretty quickly. then yet again we didn't see anyone for another 20 minutes at which point i started asking other servers if they knew where our server was. all told it took over an hour from when we walked in to when we got our meals. they were cold (not an exaggeration) and very bland. a few people on thetablecomplained and asked to get new meals but i was to hungry and impatient for that. when the server came back to thetablewith the meals for those who requested new meals she said this "just so you guys know, for tables of 7 or more there is an automatic 15% gratuity". i couldn't believe what i had just heard, she was essentially saying even though we have been shitty and i've been a terrible server you're gonna have to tip me. unfortunately for her she was not so clever at maths and there were only 6 of us at the table, something we made sure to point out and asked to talk to the manager. he ended up giving the people who had complained earlier their meals for free and sending us a free jug of margarita. this is without question one of the most terrible experiences i've ever had at a restaurant and i've been to alot of them.
