love the bar.... they probably have the best cocktails in town. i enjoy the restaurant but i really like the bar and they havegreatcocktails... did i mention that already? the best thing to do is call ahead to make a reservation or see how busy the bar is though, it fills up quickly because it is a smaller room and the seating is cozy.

we finished off our portland trip at andina, a fantastic peruvian restaurant. it was happy hour so we were able to try some very interesting drinks including the sacsayhuaman, which was habanero pepper vodka with passionfruit and cane sugar, what a kick! the ron-yki-on was ginger rum with grapefruit, lime, and a cardamom-sugar rim, also fantastic. the pisco sour was lime, egg whites, bitters, and sugar, really fantastic. the empanadas were also on the happy hour menu and were some of the best empanadas i have ever had! the entrees and dessert weregreatas well. we were worried about not having reservations but were able to get our party of seven seated with just a couple minutes’ wait. highly recommend!

i am hooked!. i recently moved from boston, ma where i had 5 favorite restaurants which i frequented on a regular basis. i met many good friends at these restaurants and have really good memories of all if them. i moved to the pearl district & spent my first days here checking places out & i hit the jackpot with andina! the happy hour is incredible-truly a happy hour (or 2). being somewhat a creature of habit i always order the oysters which are so fresh. & then i choose between the grilled octopus, which is grilled to perfection, or the roared red & golden beet salad which is so fresh & delicate. bread is served with 3 different & incredibly good salsas & oysters come with 3 different salsas. the dishes on the regular menu come in 3 different size/price ranges. i am not a meat eater but all if the seafood & vegetable dishes are fantastic! the teamwork & respect the staff has for each other is not something you see all that often & sitting at the bar i sometimes feel like i'm watching one big happy family. there is no downside to andina-food, service & atmosphere (i forgot to mention they have live music every night) cannot be beat. nothing is better than eatinggreatfood listening to people laugh out loud.

dancing flavors. i went to andina to enjoy a few tapas for dinner rather than a single entrée. what agreatexperience that was! while there is something for everyone, they have plenty of creative vegetarian options, too.

i ordered the “ensalada verde peruana,” fresh greens topped with hearts of palm, cotija cheese and seasonal vegetables and the “empanadas de carne,” flaky pastry filled with slow-cooked beef, raisins, and botija olives. i found the veggie option more creative and flavorful, though both were good. so many of the selections looked a fusion of fresh, asian and american ingredients that i’d love to have been able to explore over many more meals.

i wish i would have taken a picture of my dishes because andina knows how to plate food! its presentation is attractive and the food delivers on that first impression.

the bread was not bad but nothing special, either. what was special was the piajes, or sauces, that came with the bread. three types from mild to spicy. the spiciness wasn’t simply a function of the heat added to an otherwise similar recipe—each piaje was distinctly different, so one would likely work well with any given tapa.

i had the dessert special which was some kind of strawberry cake . i thought it was just okay. it had a hard chocolate top, which made it hard to dig into without risk of flying away, similar to the risk of spearing grapes with a fork. also, they plated it with a caramel sauce when some kind of strawberry sauce or reduction would have suited it better in my opinion.

the service was very good, the food was excellent, and i only wish i had more time because i would love to have enjoyed another meal here!

omg! what agreatdinner we had at andina. on a friday evening, we arrived 15 minutes for our reservation and were actually seated a few minutes early. my wife and i shared the stuffed pequilla peppers for a first course and they were excellent. i had the stuffed pork tenderloin which is truly impossible to describe except to say it was a delicious melding of interesting flavors. my wife had the braised lamb shank which was also tender, flavorful and quite delicious. the wine list is excellent with an amazing array of wines by the glass. we ordered a bottle of 2009 numanthea termes wine which was delightful. for dessert we shared the fried cannolis stuffed with passionfruit mousse. just a lovely flavor combination. we finished with some very tasty peruvian coffee. our server, morgan, was delightful and very attentive and helpful with suggestions.

incredible!!greatservice, greatdrinks. food is to die for. i had trouble deciding what to order, so many interesting choices. waitress was informative and passionate regarding the food. i've been to restaurants all over the world....andina holds it place up there among the best. not sure why there are any negative reviews. make sure to try andina's.

liked it. i was looking forward to trying this place, my father in law took the family for dinner. it was crowded but expected for a weekend evening. one down side was that the restaurant was very hot, making it very uncomfortable. we waited a while for drinks, i have to agree with one other review that said that the sangria was very sweet. the white sangria was better. i ordered the chicken which was really good, cooked perfect, awesome sweet potatoes too. dessert was awesome too. service wasgreattoo.

unbelieveable!. first, allow me to say that i am shocked by the number of negative reviews andina has received, because my experience there last night was nothing short of amazing.

we had a reservation for 9pm, but decided to show up early for drinks. we checked in at around 8:20 and were told that we could be seated immediately!

we sat down, ordered wine and sangria, and took a fair amount of time to mull over the menu. our server was patient with us, but checked back frequently enough that we didn't feel abandoned. i asked for her recommendation on which was better - the seco a la norte or the lomo saltado. she recommended the seco, which i ordered. she was also very helpful in recommending dishes for my vegan sister, and warning her what had cheese in it and what didn't, etc.

the bread came, with the fabulous sauces...my favorite was the passion fruit. we are a bread-loving family, so that basket of bread didn't last more than a few minutes. it, along with our sauce plate, was refilled, and before i had even taken the first bite of the fresh batch of bread, our food arrived. that's right, no more than 10 minutes after we ordered, we had our food.

of course, the presentation was impeccable, and everything looked fresh and delicious...not to mention, it was exactly what we had ordered.

i have eaten a fair amount of peruvian food, enough to know the common traditional dishes and how they should be prepared. i have an uncle who makes the best seco i've ever had, and cousins who make alfajores to die for. so i kind of know what i'm talking about.

well, i'm sorry, uncle lucho...your seco is good, but andina's is better. the lamb was...buttery melt-in-my-mouth goodness, perfectly pink in all the right places and falling off the bone tender. the cilantro sauce was plentiful enough to mop up with the rice (which, along with the beans was perfectly cooked and seasoned). i am used to seco being much spicier, which i may ask for next time, however the flavor was utterly delicious, and i definitely can't complain.

my brother-in-law got the escabeche de pollito con duo de camote, and practically licked the plate clean (although i did get a taste of the smokey, succulent sauce that it came smothered in). my sister got the de betarraga (beets), and my mom got the empanadas caseras de carne, the quesos artesanes con membrillo, and some delicious potato stuffed with crab, shrimp, and other assorted sea goodies.

we ate, drank and made merry. and then we ordered a few alfajores just for kicks. they were just ok -- my family makes them differently. i would love to go back for tapas and get a real dessert -- they all looked amazing!

in summary, this is one of, if not the best restaurant i have been to not just in portland, but in america. the service was impeccable, the food divine, and the atmosphere perfect. it's agreatplace for friends, family, a business meeting or a romantic dinner. hands down, five stars.
