at añada, the word is tapas. and if two words were required the second word would be 'upmarket'. upmarket tapas, that's what we're talking here and there's some evidence for the prosecution. it's fresh, it's tasty and it's has an authentically spanish emphasis on the olive oil. not greasy, but well, oily. but that's spanish food.
what's not spanish, is the service. we've been in greasy spoons in spain where tapas has piled the table. not as exquisite as añada, but just as fresh, tasty and authentic (much more so obviously), and certainly much faster.
we waited. too long for a cocktail. too long for the order. way too long for the food.
the waiting service was good. informative, friendly and generally professional. not their fault.
more staff would have helped, but the kitchen was constantly playing catch-up which, if you want to be a top eatery, isn't good enough.
we went with the flow and to be fair the wait staff topped up our glasses by way of acceptance for the slow service, but, really they have to do better.
melbourne is used to poor service - controversial but true - but that doesn't make it acceptable.
