wish they had a calgary location. on a recent trip to saskatoon we tried this place with a few friends who go often. loved the food. i had a mole chicken quesadilla (with beans and rice instead of salad) which was absolutely delicious. and because it was a hot day i ordered a sangria. the patio was lovely. service was prompt and attentive. it was not all that expensive either with prices that are really quite reasonable for the amount and quality of food. my only true complaint would be that the inside is quite sterile but i hear they host a lot of bands so i guess it makes sense. i totally wish this place was in calgary (i heart mexican food, authentic or not so much, no matter) so i could eat there whenever i want.

veggie burger. this is probably the best veggie burger i have found in saskatoon. the moonshine sauce on this burger is delicious and adds a good mix of flavours. plus it's typically a rather large proportion. the burger is made out of beans rather than mushrooms (i dislike mushrooms), which is a good switch up from most veggie burgers in the city. get it with the rice and beans (which are both just phenomenal as a side dish).

some guy. food is tasty and plentiful, though the setting isn't the 'best' when it comes to food. then again, it is a bar. . .

bueno. first time ever at amigos. we ordered the ancho chicken enchilada as well as the greek omelette. the food was good and plentiful and the price was decent. $32 for lunch and that included $7 tip. the tip was well worth it because i don't think i've ever seen waitresses work their butts off like those at amigos. they hustled to each and every table, taking orders and refilling coffee etc. fabulous staff that the owner should be proud of. the only knock i have against this place is that it was a little dirty, but i guess that may be part of it's charm....after all it is a nightclub. i was also suprised at the amount of patrons who come out on a saturday for lunch. by the time we'd finished our lunch, the place was near full!

decent. we went there for lunch. we had the carne asada, while the meat was seasoned nicely, it was tough to chew. the place was pretty informal (seat yourself, found our own menus) and the prices were a bit on the expensive side compared to other places we could have dined for a similar price. i would eat there again but it wouldn't be top pick on a regular basis.

not too bad, but not too great either.. quantity over quality, but sometimes that can be a good thing. a good place to meet for drinks - very open atmosphere, and a few standard beers on tap. they have way too many things on their menu, though (and the diversity of choices can add to the confusion, making the ordering experience somewhat disorienting). i had the double grilled chicken quesadilla. it was good, but not great, and it was too much food for me to finish.

hit and miss... over the years, i've been to amigo's a handful of times either for the food or the music - mostly the music. the few times that i did eat there, the food was pretty decent (i particularily try to order the kung pao chicken or pistachio shimp now..), and the servers are nice but the service is really slow. last time i went, a friend really wanted to try their mexican-american food, but we ended up waiting over twenty minutes just to get menus and waters when it was dead quiet other than another table of three. maybe it's just me, but that seems more than a little ridiculous.

awful. i just had the worst dining experience of my life at amigos cantina this afternoon. the service was horrible, slow (we waited over an hour for a lunch) and daft (the server got my meal wrong and totally forgot another meal therefore an additional 20 minute wait), the food was along the same lines as taco bell, actually i don't think taco bell would even serve pollock and try and pass it off as crab... and to top it off the cantankerous barkeep who robbed me of my money was just that - no smile, no how was everthing (thanks, it sucked and i would like my $17.59 back please). so, happy holidays amigos, i will never spend nor suggest anyone spend a dime in your venue.

ok food. it was nothing super special when i went, it was def more of a tex mex feel, not authentic (but i don't think they try to be authentic so that's cool!)
the one time i went, it was around 8 and my friends and i wanted a late dinner. they told us that since there was a show starting at 9 we absolutely had to be out by 9 because a couple members of our group were not 19. when our food didn't show up until 8:45, they gave us dirty looks until we left!

one of my favourite lunch stops. not much more i can say other than, having visited this place hundreds of times, it doesn't get old.

one caveat here: always skip the crab. always!!!

like one friend who was employed here called it: i can't believe it's not crab pollack...it's worse!!!!

if i am really hungry, i order the 2x beef and bean burrito, and my wife is always disgusted with the fact that i consistently finish it, down to the last scraping of their delicious bbq sauce.

i also regularly order tha double-grilled quesadilla (best quesadilla i have ever had, none others are even close!) and the carnitas pueblo, both superb.

saskatoon actually has its act together as far as latin eats goes. between ee burritos, las palapa, la bamba, and amigos, i do not envy the person who thought it was a good idea to open a chili's franchise here in saskatoon. all four of these places have items that chili's could only dream of matching, due in no small part to the creative stasis which afflicts all franchise restaurants.

but i digress. amigos always has reasonable service, prices, and great food at lunch. the only horror stories i have heard (and i have heard a few) relate to their supper hour, which in my view reflects the level of staff they employ at night and the shift in priority from food to booze than it does reflect the food itself, which is always really good.
