wow!!!. hands down, the bestburgerin town. might be the bestburgeri have ever had. we got the fish taco entree as an appetizer for the table. those were also the best i have ever had and i love fish tacos.. i want to go back today, tomorrow, the next day... oh my...

greatburgerand an overall interesting menu.

on a friday evening for dinner, my friend nicole and i were looking to grab aburgerand a beer and just catch up. if you’re looking for aburgerin baltimore, many are familiar with abbeyburgerwhich is constantly being written up as the bestburgerin baltimore. and if you want plenty of options, that’s a great spot. but when you’re craving a a great burger, and you don’t feel like building it yourself, alewife  is worth a visit. it’s also one of the many spots in baltimore that i have a city dining card for. alewife after sitting down and looking over the impressive drink menu, seriously this place is worth a visit for its beer list alone. my friend and i each decided to get the burger. i got it because i know how awesome it is, she probably got it because i hyped it up all day long. the smokeburgeris 11oz of beef topped with smoked gouda, gruyere, bacon, caramelized onion, and chipotle aioli on a brioche bun. and if thatburgerisn’t amazing enough on its own, it comes with a side of duck fat fries. thisburgeris so juicy and packed with delicious smoky flavors. it’s hands down my favoriteburgerin baltimore. the smokeburgerinside the smokeburgerif you’re looking for a notable beer list and a great burger, i’d highly recommend  alewife . alewife  is located at 21 north eutaw street ,  downtown  baltimore. know of any other places to get great  burgers  or restaurants downtown  that i need to try? let me know in the comments below! for more of my deep thoughts and witticisms, follow me on  twitter . for more great  burgers  nearby, consider 

cocktails were disappointingly weak, though the bacon bloody byron was flavourful. the duck fat fries were out the yang, so good! the beanburgerwas well loved by my non-meat-eating friend, and the smokeburgerwas well enjoyed as well. impressive beer selection, though heavy on the ipa as is on trend.

awesome beer selection! my top 3 beer choices were sold out but who cares? the list was so long and diverse. i had the famousburgerwith duck fat fries. decadent although the fries were limp and soggy. overall still a great experience.

great place, great staff. the smokeburgeris excellent and so is their beer list. the staff is great and knowledgeable about the food and drink list. i always trust them for a recommendation!

burger heaven. stopped in for a few pints and some dinner with a few buddies. excellent beer menu, great atmosphere, awesome food. we split the crab devilled egg appetizer and we all got smoke burgers. the eggs were solid; theburgeris in strong contention for best of baltimore. it seems like it will be a bit overwhelming on paper, but this badboy is assembled with a deft hand. duck fat fries, eh, cool and all, but the burger… this is the burger.

ate there last night for the first time. we were all happy with our choices and will certainly go again! the decor is dark, with lots of cool art and great high ceilings. a decent size space soalthough there were at least 50-70 people it didn't feel crowded. calamari app was good. friend had beer n cheese soup, said it was really good. the smokeburgerwas delicious according to my friend. the 2 other meat eaters had the skirt steak and bbq shrimp n grits, all great too. i had the catfish tacos, very good too. our server joe was friendly and helpful with beer and food recommendations. def would recommend to others!

very tastyburgermade from various cuts of steak. the applewood bacon and gruyere cheese are a perfect combo.

slower than slow!. my boyfriend and i went on a friday evening so we figured things may be a little slow which we were okay with since they have an excellent beer menu. what we weren't expecting though, was to wait 90 minutes for the famous smoke burger! the menu did specify that it would take longer than your usual burger, but i didn't realize that meant the length of a movie. our waiter only stopped by once to let us know that our food would be "right up"... and that was 45 minutes before it actually made it to the table. needless to say, theburgerwas delicious but because of the wait and lack of customer service we shan't ever be returning.

good and not so good.. i'd have to say the building itself is beautiful. the beer selection is endless. i had theburgerwith duck fat fries, which was cooked perfectly. fries seasoned nicely with sea salt and rosemary. our bartender talked to us like we were clueless, explaining everything ad nauseum. explained gastropub, erm if you hadn't noticed my husband is british, lol. he was a bit pushy. he later asked us if we wanted a shot. i asked if it was a friendly gesture, or are we paying for it. he started setting up the whole absinthe sugar cube bit and handed it to my husband. sure enough a $10 shot of absinthe is on the bill. overall we enjoyed the food and beer, would give it another try. i'll try sitting at a table next time.

great beer selection. food: meh.. definitely one of the best draught beer selections in town. our server was able to talk to us about the ones we wanted to know more about. the noise was overwhelming. at points my companion and i simply stopped talking because we couldn't hear each other across the table. it was a friday around 7. busy time but surprisingly noisy. the food was so-so. the duck fat fries were over-seasoned and limp (in a bad way). theburgerhad way too much going on and had way too strong of a charcoal taste. the shrimp and grits had a decent amount of shrimp and the grits had a good taste but i couldn't eat about 30% of the grits because of the big lumps. disappointing.

garbage!. i went the alewife on a saturday night with 5 friends. 5 of the 6 people ordered burgers - cooked to varying degrees of "doneness." apparently asking "how would you like yourburgercooked?" was just a formality because they all came out the same - well done. the 6th person ordered the risotto cakes - they were bland and textureless. no amount of salt could save them. on the upside, the beer selection is stellar. the dogfish head midas touch blew my mind - so did the ridiculous check. do yourself a favor go to ale mary's in fells.
