you have to try the beef cheeks... i don't usually fine dine. but my partner took me out to brent's as a treat.

we sat upstairs in a small room. we were the only ones there at the time which was fine. we decided that we didn't mind a bit of privacy.

we had all 3 appetizers that were listed on the menu. mushroom capuccino was absolutely beautiful. asparagus broth w prosciutto dust was a warm hug in a shot glass. wasn't a fan of the toasted brioche w house made duck liver pate, only because i don't like the taste of the pate itself.

my partner had the cheese platter dish for the entree. a very small dish for $25. however, i understand the ingredients can be accountable for that price. there was a lot going on that plate. all i can say is that the flavours were really flirting with you. only for the adventurous.

for mains, i had the slow cooked beef cheeks with truffle oil mash, caramelised onions and prosciutto. a very rich hearty dish. my partner had the pork belly and he had a side of kipfler fries. the pork belly dish had some sort of poached apple or pear icecream with it. that was different.

service was good. i found the waiter's manner is very polite and attentive to start. when he served each meal, he explained exactly what was being served in detail. the only thing that disappointed me was that there wasn't much of a follow up. he only came back to clear our plates.

overall, the only mistake i made was ordering all these dishes all at once on the same occasion. it was really rich with all the cheese, soups, and meat combined with the jus on the plate. not to mention that raspberry sorbet that was on the cheese entree and the icecream on the pork belly dish.

my palate got a thrashing that night!

but if i do go next time, i'll stick to one appetizer and a main.

the highlights of the meal were the mushroom cappuccino, crispy flat head fillet with sweet pea mousse, pink eyes, tar tare whip and lemon, the slow-cooked

once is bad luck, twice is proof.. sadly we will now be ensuring everyone we know doesn't head to brents. we have been to muych worse restaurants, but it's in its very near success that its failure lies.

brents' food has never been a disappointment. but nearly all dishes we've eaten there have had one or two things wrong. not wrong in a send back to the kitchen wrong, but wrong in that it was unnecessary or didn't add to the dish. too twee, too overwrought and pointlessly complicated. if brents focussed on their food and simplified what they are trying to do, the food would be a stand out, even despite the high prices.

but when it comes to service, one must expect more at mcdonalds. astonishingly incompetent, inattentive or boastful of their supposed prowess, no member of service has yet managed to be close to average. all have been shades of awful that is bewildering in an establishment that's lasted this long.

although waiting an hour for bread after ordering? a failure that can only be shared by the entire establishment.

if you want to spend good money on a fantastic experience, avoid brents like the plague. if you want to spend good money on an experience that fails on so many levels, go right ahead.

maybe my favourite. restaurant in brisbane. i've eaten here several times and never been disappointed. much more creative dishes than aria and much more reasonable prices. friendly, helpful service and superb food. i love to try new places but i keep coming back here.

superb and stylish. brents is the kind of place that deservs the best of reviews because it is one of the best restaurants in brisbane. seamless service, fabulous cuisine, gorgeous wines and a great atmosphere. there's nothing here not to like and it's one of my favourites.

a fabulous dining experience. the pork entree is delicious and choosing a main from the creative choices is a challenge. add to this that you can byo your favourite wine and the service is attentive.

i read about brents somewhere but didn't think much about it until recently, a friend told me he had a really good experience there. i'm not one to ignore a recommendation from a fellow foodie so i immediately made a booking.

all class. brents is a very upmarket fine dining style of restaurant. when we went the meals and the service were both first class.

i found the atmosphere a little quiet, but i suppose that's to be expected in this style of restaurant.

it's quite tucked away and not that easy to find (my taxi driver had trouble).

perfect for a romantic dinner or special occasion.

beef cheek bliss. this sort of restaurant is not normally my caper but after visiting brent's for the first time we have been back 3 times in short succession the food is size is smaller but is really meant to be eaten over quite a few courses we get the $150 set course for 2 this includes a bottle of wine and all the dishes that go with it. the stand out dish without a doubt is the beef cheeks you absolutely have to try this and when in season the crispy skin barramundi entree is a winning combination. i left feeling perfectly full as normally i'll eat until my belt snaps this was a welcome change

great service and good, not huge portions. the service at brent's really does border on perfect. this is an excellent place to bring a date that you wish to impress.

individually the dishes are also very impressive. probably my only gripe is that i left hungry. my partner was happy though, so i'd say, perfect for girls, but guys have a sandwich before you go.

overpriced. "good" priced at "spectacular". the entrees were main priced and the rabbit entree was laughingly small.

fine dining, not fine food.. the venue oozes class and the service was fantastic. unfortunately all 5 of the dishes tried were completely underwhelming.

i'm disappointed to say that i've had many better meals at upper-market pubs and bars - i had hoped for so much more. ultimately, when the bottle of wine is the highlight of your taste experience, you start to wish you had bought that bottle and cooked at home.

your money is best spent elsewhere, if you're looking for the whole fine dining experience.
