not quite. let's start by saying that brents is a wonderful place in terms of ambiance and certainly exudes the feeling of a fine dining restaurant. being based in a suburban house provides a warm and inviting place to sit and enjoy some food. there's a split level dining area with the top floor providing both secluded rooms as well as a larger space with windows to the herb garden out back. overall the design is modern and tasteful. unfortunately the early impressions were tainted when we found that two of our wine classes had been tabled with chips out of them. not major, but if you want to be a fine dining restaurant then things like this should be observed more closely. this wasn't the only problem the restaurant showed in terms of attention to detail but more on that later. we opted for the gourmand menu as it seemed to provide agoodcross-section of what the chef had to offer.

to start with there was an amuse bouche which was presented as some cream cheese in a shot glass with citrus cured salmon. tasty, but nothing special and showed nothing in terms of preparation or skill.
next was a wild mushroom cappuccino with prosciutto dust. a nicely done appetiser which providedgoodflavour blended with some imaginative presentation.
next, crumbed & fried goats cheese, beetroot & sorbet, candied pecan & charcoal lavosh. wonderful presentation -goodingredients and flavours individually, but given that a tiny piece of fried cheese is the star, it's really too simple and doesn't offer much in terms of technique. beetroot sorbet was again, nice, but simple and overall the mix of flavours didn't actually work well in unison.
next, red claw yabby, citrus cured salmon, cucumber, melon, nasturtium & mandarin jam - probably one of the stand outs on the degustation. heavily biased towards citrus flavours which worked very nicely in combination with the yabby. very tasty!
next, something billed as a "palette cleanser"..chartreuse marshmallow, compressed apple, cucumber snow & milk wafer. absolutely horrible in every way. how on earth the quite pungent herbal flavours of chartreuse mixed with sugary whipped egg-white and cucumber is meant to cleanse your palette was beyond us. in fact the whole table found it a mismatched attack on your taste buds which lingered horribly for the remainder of the night. a definite blemish which should be gotten rid of.
next came a crispy confit duck which was another of the stand out dishes. wonderfully soft and flavoursome meat, mould pressed and presented as a slice topped with crispy skin and some very intense lemon curd. also included was a waver of liquorice which worked very nicely with the meat.
next, slow cooked beef cheek, paris mash, sautéed mushroom, prosciutto & garlic croutons. yet another well prepared dish, but very simple. attention to detail was lacking in this dish as one plate was presented without the garlic croutons. what was even more disappointing was the fact that no offer was made to replace the dish. not really acceptable when you pay for fine dining.. sorry.
next came a plate of soft blue cheese with fig cooked in pedro jimenez sherry. acceptable but apart from the fig, nothing to showcase the chef's talents.
finally, a desert plate consisting of coffee & fennel seed ice cream, chocolate sponge, aerated chocolate and genache. since the menu is french inspired we'd placed high expectations on the deserts, however this turned out to be another great disappointment. the aerated chocolate was undoubtedly a piece of cadbury aero-bar - gimmicky and quite frankly dreadful in terms of flavour! the sponge cake was dry and flavourless. the remainder of the chocolate was also sub-standard and fell well below expectations. how difficult is it to make a ganache and pipe a string of it on a platter. very unimaginative, showing very little technique - nicely plated but horribly executed when you consider that his meant to be fine dining.

whilst still a fine dining experience, overall it was quite disappointing considering that the restaurant was awarded a chef's hat this year. lots of places can pretend to be fine dining, but few actually manage to pull it off consistently and unfortunately brents didn't do so for us on this night. you don't go fine dining to look for value, so the price (at a minimum of 100 per head) remains reasonable for a degustation, although the ingredients should be top class which unfortunately they weren't in several cases. a lot of people will walk away from here impressed (probably mainly due to the presentation of the food and the air of exclusivity that a place like this offers), but true food lovers will undoubtedly be disappointed. there are some nice elements, but realistically you don't have to search far to find food at an equal or better level and at a cheaper price point. presentation was always good, service on par, however the delivery was a little too slow and lacking attention to detail. the mix of flavours was often confused and most of all there wasn't enough in terms of technique and imagination to show-case what's possible at this level. i'm guessing that many return customers would do so only to savour a few favourites but i can't see anyone wanting to repeat the degustation here.

rated 4.5. went here with the partner after making a reservation as soon as the restaurant re-opened with the loosening of covid-19 restrictions.
we chose the five-course tasting menu at $65pp. between both of us, for entrees we tried: "citrus cured salmon" (light, fresh and well-balanced in flavours and textures) and "pork belly" (beautifully succulent with crispy skin). for mains: "barramundi" (perfectly cooked with crispy skin) and "eye fillet" (cooked medium-rare, standard but well-prepared accompaniments and flavours). for desserts: "chocolate tart" (beautifully moreish dark chocolate) and "fig pudding" (warm, moist and homely flavours). the complimentary amuse bouche and palate cleaners were refreshing and delicious teasers between courses.
service was friendly and efficient. smart casual ambience (and appropriately socially distanced between tables). reasonable prices.
overall, agooddining experience with a modern australian/french flair.

disappointed and a little confused. having dined at the previous incarnation of this restaurant quite a number of times over the last 10 years my wife & i were excited to give the refreshed restaurant a try. the ambiance is a little lacking in the restyled restaurant and with the hard floors there are little soft furnishings to dampen the noise when he restaurant is full as it was on the night we visited. the lighting was also at the annoying "feel like i want to go to sleep level". the service was not fantastic and at the prices been charged, the service needs to be spot on to avoid been disappointed and on the night we visited it was far from spot on. as for the food this is where my wife and i were a little confused, the combination of flavours were a little strange and the servings sizes where minuscule for the price. probably the most disappointing was their only been one side available that resembled a salad or vegetable side, been the cucumber slaw, really this is notgoodenough for fine dining. overall we are in no rush to go back.

truly a delightful and refreshing experience. now while we were the only people in the restaurant on a friday lunch (where are you brisbane?), the service was efficient and comfortable and informative. the location has a character that is unique being in an old corner store suburban building - being in the burbs i assume that lent to the small number of customers. seating is comfortable and not crowded. now the food - wow - we had the lunch degustation - simply wow - the diversity, the flavours - wow! the wine list, while catering to a less expensive taste, also carries a fewgoodones. thanks miskin street - you made our 25th wedding anniversary memorable.

if you want a quiet yet sophisticated breakfast then drop into 85 miskin. on entry there were only 1 or 2 other couples and we got served straight away. the coffee was one of my favourites, tobys estate, and packed a awesome punch with the flavour not lacking from first to last sip, i also enjoyed a macchiato as well as my coffee and this was magnificent!!! had the four course meal for brekky (breakfast degustation) and was very enjoyable and cooked to perfection and presented well, only downside was the third dish had a slow poached egg and everyone else's egg yolk was runny except mine, it was over cooked. also had my favourite bacon, maple bacon and would have liked it crispy, it was rendered well but just needed to be cooked longer for the perfect crunch. all in all fantastic service, goodprice, loved the peace and quiet to start the morning but most of all loved the company that was with us.

awarded one hat by thegoodfood guide 2014/15 and receiving a high score on zomato (4.3/5), it had been on my brisbane to-try list for a while. and so, we decided it was the perfect catch up venue for the food avenue team. walking in, the atmosphere was unpretentious and cosy. the downstairs dining room was full, so our reserved table was upstairs. it was a warm day in brisbane when we dined, but the air conditioning kept us at agoodtemperature.

we went to 85 miskin st last night for valentines dinner.  the room was minimalistic, which could do with a bit more character of the old vintage style, as a talking point.  i would love to see old photos of the place on the walls.  as the photos of a by gone era was beside the till.  i nearly missed it.
the air con was on the verge of cold.
the staff were very proficent and the service was excellent.  especially, the wine waitress and the fellow who served the water- very professional and pleasing to watch as service was immpeccable.
now, thegoodpart,  the food was a set menu of four courses.  and the menu was laid on the table so we knew what we were going to be served.
all my husband and i can say is the food just pops and explodes in your mouth.  and that was with every course of the four course menu.  the many different tastes and mixtures of flavours was a pleasure to experiment and devour.
we look forward to going back.

i came here for breakfast with a group of gals and the food was amazing! for breakfasts i had the cured salmon and it was delicious! the plating was nice and the flavours of the dish were prefect, it was definitely worth the price as well. after breakfast, we all wanted to taste to the desserts so between the 5 of us we shared the brownie and yoghurt mousse. the brownie was delicious and the salted caramel and miso ice cream tasted surprisingly good. following from the brownie came the mousse and fill ice cream, the flavours were different but they were verygoodand enjoyable. the service of the restaurant was wonderful as well, service was quick and staff had a keen attention to detail.
definitely would love to come back!

i love agooddegustation! the degustation here was amongst the best i have had in brisbane. the lamb belly was the absolute star, i need to have that as a main! the apple, mint, chocolate dessert was so clever i could not stop raving about it. the whipped brie was just incredible, melty heaven in your mouth.. i need to have all my bries whipped now!
super affordable for a beautiful degustation - $89/head. in hindsight i wish i had added the matched wines.
service was warm and lovely. i was not such a fan of the decor and i was rather cold in the corner of the restaurant, but i go for the food!

disappointing. my husband and i went here for dinner, we wanted to like it after it's long standing reputation but it fell so short of the mark. the decor is cheap and badly needs some attention and money spent on it! the toilets and staircase up to the toilets were in dire need of agoodclean! we both had three courses and each course needed salt/was uninspiring/overpriced/tiny portions. we are all for "dainty" and beautiful, but the portions here are insanely small. wine by the glass tasted so cheap and like it had been open for 3 days already. service was friendly.
unfortunately we won't be returning. sorry miskin street, i wanted to like you!

i really wanted to like this place but the food is only so-so.
dined here with a breakfast deal, was excite about my coffee pancakes with hazelnut icecream and my partner ordered the potato rosti thing with salmon and poached egg. the plating of the dishes were nice but the food is very simple in terms of taste, nothing special. the meals are not hearty like other brunch places as it seems that they are going for a "higher-class" offering but then the standard of the food don't match. coffee pancake has no coffee taste, a bit doughie; and portion is small. the decor is nice and service isgoodbut the food is very mediocre. won't return for brunch but may try dinner.
