great vibe, tasty colorful food and wonderful margueritas!

i went with a group of co-worker for a team outing and this a great place to do it.
we chose the dinner "family style" tasting menu which is a great option for a group. i've to be back to try the pig's head carnitas and the asada de carne which looked great!!!

on the tasting menu i'd say that everything was very good, with special emphasis to the beef ennegredico, the papas fritas and the mushrooms tacos that were absolute delicious.

the margueritas (as far as i remember...hahah) were really delicious as well.

the down side is this place is abitpricey (specially if you start drinking margueritas...)

great atmosphere, vibrant and super tasty!

777 is a great place, perfect for a dinner with colleagues! the margueritas were very good and all the food the came to the table was fantastic. we ended up getting a tasting menu, so it was like a feast. the colors and flavors just hit the spot. good job on the desserts as well, loved the bread and butter pudding.

i would give it a 4.5, but i found it a littlebittoo pricey, though it was great!

i came here for 777 sundays and wasn't disappointed! they don't take bookings but put your name a list and call you so there can be abitof a wait, especially later in the evening or with a bigger group. we were two, so managed to get seated at the bar straight away which was fab. the atmosphere is fun and the music is great, and loud! we ordered from the sunday menu of dishes and select cocktails for €7.77. our waiter was lovely and pointed out his favourites from the menu. we got 4 dishes to share between us which was a perfect amount of food. the fish tacos were my favourite, perfectly battered, light and crispy fish with avocado and lemon - yum. the potato skins are a must as well, with guac and cream cheese - abitbold and perfect for curing the sunday blues. the cocktails were lovely - their take on the bloody mary is unusual and really cool - spicy which chorizo and a quail egg on top! almost like starter in itself. they were quick to bring us the bill as soon as we weren't ordering as it was really busy and they wanted our seats. overall fun mexican with really cool funky decor and a party atmosphere.

you might as well right a cheque with €777.00 already filled in to eat in this place. and it will be worth every penny. probably abitharsh as they do a special menu on tuesdays and sundays for people who aren't clearly dealing in illicit goods on the sides to suppliment their income. come for the tacos and stay for frozen margaritas! guilty

777 is hands down the best mexican in dublin. the place itself is really cool and perfect for dinner with a few drinks. always busy!

the menu is great with some really different options. we went with a group of 6 which meant i got to try loads. the stars of the show had to be the crab tostadas and the prawn tacos. but everything was top quality. didn't taste the chorizo but the girls said it was pretty spicy. tuesday's are taco tuesday's so the 4 tacos are only €4!
the drinks are great if you like tequila but abitlimited otherwise.

staff were all really nice and attentive despite how busy the place was. single negative is its abitpricy but definitely worth it! i'll be back.

a littlebiton the expensive side for the portions, but the nachos were massive and absolutely delicious. i had the shrimp tacos and they were fantastic. really tasty and crunchy. the staff are top notch as well, id almost preference a seat at the bar because of how much of a laugh the barman was. really good food and always a great atmosphere because the place is always packed.

i really love this place. great music and atmosphere, cosy and good service. food is mexican but not your usual tex mex kinda stuff. definitely more authentic and delicious. the tastiest dishes were most definitely the tuna tostados and crab tostados. had beef and mushroom tacos which were nice but abitoverwhelmed by the sauce it was served with. papas fritas were so delicious and garlicky. the corn on the cob was so tasty too, although a little on the cold side. lovely cocktails too, which although pricey are a nice treat. will definitely be back.

these last weeks we’ve been incredibly lucky with the weather. at least i’be been able to go out to the street without a coat and with ballerinas, something i missed so much. good weather in dublin means also crowed streets and places in the city center but hey, everybody is in a good mood and that brings an incredible atmosphere to the city.

last sunday a very good friend called me to go with him and some others to have some cocktails in 777, the mexican restaurant down george street. first and last time i was there i was abitsick and i founded the place pretentious, overpriced and everything but mexican. i have to say i was half wrong.

sundays in this place are totally worthy: selected dishes and cocktails cost 7.77 euro, the atmosphere is hip and cool, music is just amazing and the food… well i have personal dislike for spicy stuff but other than that, kudos for the 777’s owner who came up with this idea.

it was 4pm and we started with a round of “la cura”. oysters in a shot glass with tequila and spicy red sauce. “la cura” could be translated as the cure, which as far as i know, describes this dish to the perfection. maybe because it makes all your stomach and head jump, but i really find it original and worthy for the experience, not that much for the taste.

oyster tequila shots followed by chilaquiles, daiquiris and bloody mary’s putted the perfect end to a spring weekend in dublin that leads the willing of summer, sun and beach to all of us. hopefully soon i will be writing from some lost land on the other side of the world.

bon apetite!

grade: 7.5/10
price: €€ (only on sundays)

been here three times before. the best tuna ceviche i've ever had, unfortunately this was a special and hasn't been on offer on the two occasions i've returned since. their vodka oysters shots are brilliant! they also serve these in their sister restaurant super miss sue. the corn and the cobb is great. however i find the place abitload and the seating at the bar slightly uncomfortable but this is a purely a matter of taste. i do like this place and will return

those of you who aren’t familiar with it may have actually walked past 777 without even noticing it. situated on george’s street, it’s quite unidentifiable until you see the small black sign sticking out of the wall above you. then you’ve got to push through the black door and through the curtain before entering the restaurant.

luckily we were early enough and got a seat at the bar, where they sit most parties of 2. i know this can be off putting for some but i love bar seating to be honest. granted, i wouldn’t fancy it for a really special romantic night out but in a place like 777 where it’s small and has a casual laid back vibe i really enjoy sitting at the bar just as much as getting a table.as bar sitting goes, this is a really great bar.

a long bar with white tiled walls with an array of bottled drinks… some of the wall art may not be to everyone’s taste but overall it fits in with the rest of the restaurant. i think the owners (also owners of dillingers (review here ) and the butcher’s grill) have really found a vibe that people enjoy, a more relaxed and casual approach to dining.

we plonked ourselves down and started with a few drinks. it’s an absolute sin to go here and not try the margaritas, they are the best i’ve ever tasted. we had one of the frozen margaritas (€10) and one of the margarita especial (€12)

777’s food is mexican but not your typical fajitas and enchiladas style of mexican. the starters / small dishes section of the menu has quite a big choice of tostadas & taquitos along with oysters, squid, tortilla soup, pork flank and dublin bay prawn ceviche just some of the choices. i always say i’ll try something different but the chorizo taquitos (€9) reel me in every time. they are utterly amazing – 3 small wraps with such soft tender meat and a good fiery kick to them. apologies for the rubbish photo – i was in such a rush to start eating that i forgot to take a pic when they came out!

choice of mains isn’t as vast but still has a good selection. there’s the market fish, jerk chicken, pork hock, lamb rump, ribs and beef to name a few. e went for the asada de carne – grilled flank steak, artichoke & broad bean gremolata (€26) and i chose the pollo pollito – mexican jerk 1/2 chicken, cheese & jalapeno cornbread with a citrus slaw (€20). we also got a side of elotes – mexican style sweetcorn (€6). e is a “well done” beef man and on ordering he requested this. i had a little snigger to myself when the waitress informed him that no, he couldn’t have it well done, it was cooked medium – end of  :-)

for once in my life i ordered the better dish…. i’m usually left drooling over e’s choice but on this occasion the roles reversed. his beef was good …..

…but my chicken was absolutely amazing. huge portion sizes and the softest

i wasn’t a massive fan of the cheese and jalapeno cornbread (e ate that instead) but the side of corn doused in cheese more than made up for it.we ate every lastbitof food between us and handed back empty plates save for the chicken bones.

there was physically no more room in our tums for dessert but we did manage another drink before our allocated 2 hour time slot was up and we had to scarper. if it weren’t for that i think we would have happily sat there for another few hours enjoying the fabulous margaritas!

the bill came in at €105 for one starter, two mains, one side and four cocktails.

i really can’t fault the food in this place. i’ve been numerous times now and never had a bad meal, in fact i’ve eaten the best meat i’ve ever tasted here on my past 2 visits. it definitely isn’t the cheapest restaurant on the block but i have no problem paying for really good food. that coupled with the friendly and laid back atmosphere in 777 keeps me wanting to go back.

i've been threatening to go to 777 for a long time and i finally went on one of their 777 sundays.

the deal on a sunday is that there's a special menu with tapas for €7.77 each. it's like a taster for the full menu and it's a great way to get people in! we spotted their tweet about it and decided to head over!

so the outside is extremely drab, but it's all an illusion and it really works. you do not expect this little oasis to be inside. the interior reminds me of being in sunnier climates, but remaining intimate.

we sat up at the bar and had a look at the menu. nothing is marked. 90% of their menu is gluten free or can be adapted - i checked several times with lots of people and the 777 twitter account, but the waitress had to check with the kitchen what was what.

this is a huge pet hate of mine. please mark the menus. please! otherwise, you end up like me and avoid some places because there are no markings, and, when you venture in, have the staff have to go to the kitchen to check. it's not a confidence booster at all. in fact, it would turn the majority of coeliacs off the establishment straight away.

on another pet peeve note, the waitress did actually confirm with my other half that i was a "real" coeliac when i was in the bathroom. i was abitpeeved when i heard, but i understand they get a lot of fad dieters in.

anyway, the waitress came back and listed everything we could have. we had to read the descriptions as she did so and, honestly, she did it so fast that neither of us could remember the first dish (again, this always happens when you don't mark the damn menu!), and decided to order anything gluten free, which was six tapas. she looked at us like we were abitcrazy, and suggested to choose four... so she listed them again to us and we chose four and the cocktail that was on special. (again marking the menus would make it clearer!)

the food arrived pretty quick. it was freaking awesome! we had taco campeon, el gringo, huevos rancheros, and chilli con carne. we had to ask for more of the corn chips for the chilli because they got all mushed in the bottom of the bowl. the 777 sunday menu changes every sunday so the food in the pictures may not be available on a particular sunday, but it was all scrumptious. i would most definitely be trying more the next time! we devoured the food on the plate. it was all so flavour packed and delicious. we were seriously hungry monkeys!

i was so so stuffed leaving but i will definitely be back for more!

small observation: you have to go through the kitchen when you go to the bathroom, and you can hear all the conversations that the staff are having. two in particular were quite disgruntled about being there! it didn't affect the food though so it's all good!

also, ladies and gents they have somewhere to hang your bag/coat/hat while you eat up at the bar! little hooks are the best thing ever to keep everything within reach.. including the camera for awesome food photos!
