34 south

it is super busy on the knysna mariner over the weekend. we struggled to get tables everywhere. we eventually ended up here. i must admit that i was reluctant because the prices seemed a bit steep. the tastier pizzas hover around the r100 mark. it's worth it though. awesome crust,greatflavours but so so service.

great place to dine with friends and family, warm and friendly. oysters were super fresh, east coast soles were grilled just right. side salad was soggy and tartar sauce had too much mayonnaise,greatwine but pricey, but will definitely come again!

fantastic food with suchgreatservice. sushi is fresh. also had breakfast on another occasion which we enjoyed so much. we'll be back in the future.

not the first time we have been to 34 south. without doubt the best calamari steaks both myself and my partner have ever had and is a no brainers for us every time we get away from joey's down the coast. alsogreatsushi. everything they serve is 100% fresh and the atmosphere and location is great.

oysters are a must! also the service is friendly with agreatlocal vibe. ordered the jambalaya and calamari rings... all i can say is deeeeeeelicious! thumbs up! not your fine dining but comfortably at home with good food

my boyfriend and i were in knysna for his birthday weekend on the 20th july. we were staying opposite 34 south, and after plenty recommendations to eat dinner there, we did. the food wasgreaton the friday night, we had prawns and oysters. we came back on saturday, and the waiter kept pushing us to have the dressed oysters, as there was a r99 special, where you get a glass of wine, 4 dressed oysters and 2 fresh oysters. we decided to take the special. we went home after the dinner, and from 1:30am until 9am i was violently ill. my boyfriend started becoming just as ill around 6am. we both had seafood poisoning. the oysters were the only food that we shared, and it is now clear that the dressed oysters were being pushed onto customers so that they could get rid of their old oysters. i have never ever been so sick!! i went to the manager around 12pm, she had no sympathy, and all she said was 'what do you want me to do about it'? after spending a lot of money, time, and having our holiday ruined by 34 south, the service by the manager topped it all off. i left my details with the manager, because the owner was supposed to call me during the week and potentially refund me. it has been 20 days, and i have not heard from anyone!

i am extremely disappointed, and i have told everyone i know about this. i will never be back.

what a pleasant experience! we really enjoyed the food here - started off with some grilled oysters (we tried the paprika and the blue cheese ones) and they were both delicious. the sushi wasgreatand for dessert the malva pudding had a delicious butterscotch sauce! we went during the knysna oyster festival, so getting quality food in a busy period was great. i will go back when in knysna again.

this is a lovely place. we had a fantastic dinner with the whole family. we chose this place cause we all felt like something different, sushi, steak and pizza. we were all a bit worried cause usually places that offer such a variety don’t always havegreatfood but we were all more than happy.greatservice, good set up,greatfood.

visited jan 2018 had the oysters which were purported to be fresh but smelled like faecal matter. i should have sent these back immediately. however i was really keen to sample these south african oysters and the waiter who was awesome said that these were large and fresh at r30 each..mind you the soet patat was awesome,these folk should keep things simple. if you gonna be the purported :home of oysters in knysna", then bloody well do it properly. 

so i am still alive ,,no side effects..this place looksgreatand has a nice shop. but give it a miss..i am sure there are better places that serve oysters off a higher quality.

in humid environments always serve beers quickly after pouring. hate warm beers in warm environment.
encourage your staff to be helpful not stand around talking and looking disinterested. new zealand oysters are way fresher,cleaner and dont lie open or unattended for hours on end before serving. if you okes are using marina water in your tanks..guess what??

this is such nice place. so many options on the menu, cute shop attached to the restaurant. the place was stacked with people, resembling the good food. it would begreatif they arrange for more waiters over the busy season as service was unfortunately not good at all.

food was tasty but felt ripped off. charged r65 for a small sweet potato and side salad. notgreatvalue. the ambience is good and service not too bad.

we went to 34 south twice in one day. the first time was for breakfast which was large portions and quick service. the second time was later for drinks and starters. we ordered the sushi which wasgreatand the snails. the snails were drenched in oil and tasteless. was disappointed because it was recommended.

if you find any problem with this place then the fault is with you or you are very unlucky.greatseafood- we had a variety of oysters, sushi, kingklip etc. the "favorites" wine selection is beyond incredible. riaan- our waiter was on point. a special experience!!

we came to knysna expecting good seafood, and that's what we got at 34 south. we ordered the seafood platter, containing king prawns, queen prawns, muscles, squid, yellow tail and more... it was all amazing, particularly when smothered in the garlic butter!

the service and venue is 'no thrills' which suited us, staff were friendly and the environment was quite relaxed.

this place providesgreatseafood at a reasonable price.

nice place ,greatfood really enjoyed my starter and cocktails are best. our waitress seemed to be serving all tables outside so she was very busy but did her best to now and again attend to us and she was friendly. ..so nice place , good food andgreatcompany i'd definitely do it again
