zen asian fusion

best japanese in town?. usually when i receive an outstanding meal and an outstanding service on a dining experience that's not that expensive, i write it off as a pleasant fluke. having visited zen asian fusion 3 times now, i can pleasantly say that this is not the case here.

food- a pleasant menu with a smattering of various asian cuisine with a focus on japanese. the prices are very, very reasonable, especially when matched against the quality of the food. the non sushi dishes are accompanied with the fine detail you would expect to pay $30-$40 an entree(and will if you eat at a similar outfit in new york or san francisco). the sushi itself is even better, easily outclassing tsunami and pretty much every other japanese offering in town. the attention to detail and knowledge of the inner workings of sushi are proudly on display here, the sushi chef knows his stuff. 10/10

service- the service is above average, drinks stay filled and you are regulary checked up on but not in an intrusive manner. you are served in a timely fashion but not rushed out of the building. 7.5/10

atmosphere- a dark setting, the interior is a suprise given the drab exterior of the building. inside you find a quiet setting that somehow manages to walk a fine line between gaudy and sleek in an urban japanese setting. it doesn't distract from the great food though. 6/10

best sushi in charleston period.. yep, i said it all in the title. it is the best sushi in charleston.

there other dishes are excellent as well. you'll be paying a good bit for this sushi, but the food is so delicious its well worth it.

cool building, nice staff, great food. i eat here as frequently as i can afford it!

zen, indeed.... perhaps, "euphoria" would be a better name for this place as this is what i experienced during my visit!

great service, they pay very close attention to details when you order, the tuna sashimi was served in the traditional way, without rice and the flavor was divineand it was served with the shredded dikon raddish (i have only seen this in very few establishments nation wide. needless to say, the presentation was exquisite and added that much more to my dining experience.

if you're a true sushi enthusiast and don't mind spending a little more, this is the place to go in charleston.

awesome. great sushi! zen is a great place to eat and has a very friendly staff. the food is incredible and the prices are very reasonable for the quality of food you are getting.
the restaurant is very clean. i plan on going back soon!

greeted and seated promptly. will provided excellent service! the bar area is really pretty and the dinning area is tastefully decorated. i loved the background music, not too loud and great play list!

i made a strange combo order, edamame+wings+side salad. hubby ordered sashimi. he picked wonton soup as his side. will expertly paced my odd ball order to coincide with hubbies meal.

first out, the edamame. warm plump and perfectly salted. great share dish! next, he served my side salad and hubbies soup. my salad was fresh and came with a creamy ginger dressing. hubby let me taste his soup and the broth was very tasty and light. he loved the delicate wontons. not the usual overly doughy ones you might expect!

next, he was served his sashimi as i was served my wings. i didn't try the sashimi but i trust my hubbies opinion and he said it was fresh and tasty! my wings were juicy and meaty. basically fried chicken served with an asian sweet sauce. the wings were good but the sauce was a bit too sweet. hubby liked it with the wings. sweet/salty, i usually fall for but i would of liked it more if they had coated the chicken with it. dipping was messy.

presentation of the sashimi was very cool.

my awkward all appetizer order with hubbies main meal order could of been served many different ways. will timed it so that neither one of us was served alone. i appreciate that.

not good. who ever cooked monday night forgot spice. 8 had the basil curry beef and it was completely void of any spice.

absolutely wonderful! when i lived in charleston this was my favorite sushi place by far. whenever i go back to visit, i always make sure i go here at least once. the sushi is some of the best sushi i've ever had. the rolls are gigantic and the plating is magnificent. also, the waitstaff is always on point, and the management is awesome. when they first opened up, i was a regular customer, and the manager would always hook me up. he would always have the chef create something new for me to try that they were experimenting with.
zen is a sushi restaurant i highly recommend you try when visiting charleston.

amazing food and service!!!!!. i ate at zen asian fusion and love the inside decor it is beautiful. the staff is super nice and attentive. and the food is amazing. the sushi is so fresh and delicious. and the wine is excellent. you will not be disappointed if you go here. well worth your time to go.

awesome sushi, and i'm picky. friendly staff stand out from other restaurants/ food joints, and the price is appropriate.

amazing presentation for every dish from the seaweed salad to the need udon, the spicy yellowtail sushi and the red snapper sashimi.

staff was super polite and perfect timing at checking in on us. the atmosphere was perfect. definitely love it.

unimpressed. our experience was very average both times we had lunch here. the sushi seemed assembly line worthy to me. the "management" was overly impressed with himself and his restaurant. why are the sushi chefs hiding in the back?
ho-hum...

never disappoints. what more can i say? they just never fail to provide the best service and food and atmosphere my money can buy!
