since the time i've come to california i.e. almost a month ago, zachary's and their chicago style deep dish pizzas have been on my wishlist. finally got a chance to visit this place last saturday and all i can say is that they serve the best pizzas ever!!

regulars have been frequenting this haunt from a very long time, and while the reputation of their deep dish pizzas has always preceded them, the popularity of these only seems to grow with each subsequent year. what makes zachary’s so unique is their classic chicago sauce-over-cheese approach.

so when we finally visited zachary's, we settled into their wooden chairs in the charming interiors and quickly placed our order since we were super hungry and knew that their pizzas take around 45 minutes to be cooked. we whiled away our time sipping on some wine and beer.

and when our half-n-half pizza arrived, it was love at first sight for me. the spinach & mushroom pizza came with toppings of fresh spinach and mushroom blended with 3 cheeses and special spices and with a pizza base that was soft, fluffy and just the perfect level of crust. how can you possibly say no to that?

the other half was the mediterranean pizza which turned out to be another great choice to sink our teeth into that came with enticing toppings of red bell pepper, green olives, artichoke hearts, feta and jack cheese.

the pizza was so filling that three slices were just enough for each of us (that too because we skipped lunch :-p).

the service was quick and our server was very polite and attentive even though the place was packed.

so to cut the long story short, absolutely loved the pizzas here and will definitely be goingbackfor more.

zachary's do a mean deep dish. so mean is it that you will invariably end up goingbackthere the very next day like i did. i rarely do deep dishes. they require a large appetite, can go horribly wrong for most people and while chicago swears by it, i've had some very bad renditions in the windy city as well.

we had the classic spinach & mushroom deep dish and it was just heavenly. the tomato sauce was rich with soft tomatoes, the crust was thin but the second internal layer was nice and fluffy. and it all just came together beautifully on a plate.

deep dish is the best pizza. wow! where do i begin with this review of zachary's pizza?!!

well i have been a true fan and great customer of zachary's for over 15 years now. this location was my first experience and a very magical one it was at that. i was taken here by a friend for a nice bite before a beastie boys concert at the coliseum. well it was early in the evening so we got our table and had a nice starter green salad with ranch then to my surprise this very large thick deep dish pizza pie! oh my gosh!! this thing looked so darn scrumptious! it was just a basic spinach and mushroom but to my surprise it was zachary's pride and joy. well i was sold! this thing was so good! bite after bite i was falling deeper and deeper in love with this place.

well we had a concert to get to and we had pizza to spare. i'm one to not waste food but this thing was big and after a slice or two i was stuffed. i can put away a good pie but this one got me good. i got it packed to go because i was not about to let this thing go to waste. we got out of there and went into the albertsons and i bought some ice and packed it up all nice so it would not spoil.

we went to the show and it was great but i think i got some sort of contact high because when i got home the rest of that pizza was all in my belly! ever since that one night and my first time at zachary's i have beenbackto all of the locations many times and i take my friends who have never been and it's like taking kids to disneyland for the first time.

these days whenever i go to zachary's i get the large and it last me for days. this is one of the few pizzas i enjoy cold just as much as i do hot. i'm also very thankful to have a location in san ramon because it's right down the street and my new favorite neighbor. i have to say i have been very lucky with very little or no wait for dine in or take out. i like to get a half-baked pizza at times too so i'm in and out in minutes.

i have never gone any other direction than the stuffed pizza and i never will. zachary's is a place you go to for a stuffed pizza and it's a sin to get anything else!

best pizza ever!!! soooo loved goin into berkeley for my fav deep dish pizza and now i just hop into my car and in minutes i'm waiting in line but with a great big smile on my face!

yummy pizza. i love this pizza. it's completely different from any other west coast pizza's i've had. it's a deep dish pizza and the ingredients are piled high about an inch and a half thick and it has a nice crispy soft crust. ingredients are fresh and oh so delicious. since they don't have anything like this in southern california that i'm aware of... we'd order a bunch of frozen ones and bring itbackwith us in a cooler. our friends and family also make requests to bring thembacksome too. it's a friends and family favorite.
