i was excited to finally try wolf peach, only to be disappointed. i have an autoimmune disease that makes me very sensitive to spicy foods so obviously i order food that does not have spice. i thought the spinach artichoke pizza with cream cheese and roasted garlic as the only other ingredients listed on themenuwould be easy and safe enough. it came out with red pepper flakes all over the pizza!! even my friend who loves spicy foods said it was very spicy. i hate asking waiters to remake food because i don’t want to be “that person” and hate confrontation, but with my friend’s support i asked the waiter anyway if there was any way to remake the pizza without the red pepper flakes especially since there was no mention of it on the menu. he was extremely insensitive about it and really made no effort to even check back in the kitchen to see if it could be done and kept saying that “it looks like the artichoke has already been marinated with the flakes sorry.” for goodness sake then, i would have been more than happy to go back in the kitchen and marinate some myself. for a restaurant that “claims” to be conscientious about being “vegetarian” and “gluten free”, it sure seemed to me that they didn’t care about my dietary needs when i politely requested it. perhaps next time i should be more rude about it to get results. beware what you order here because apparently they add ingredients that are not listed on the menu.

prentention is not a viable business model. i have to agree with a previous poster in not being a fan of the serve-in-whatever-order-its-done concept. i believe this is nothing but a cop-out for one two reasons. a) a chef who cannot keep their kitchen organized, or b) a crutch for a serving staff that is either poorly trained or too lazy to keep track of the customers' eating pace and drop orders accordingly. to be fair, odd duck in bay view has also adopted this technique and we didn't care for it there either.

as for w/p in detail, if the waiter told me one more time to "ok then, just relax..." as he walked off without doing anything - no drink order after we sat, no refilling the empty water bottle which he carefully placed back on the table after he emptied it, never cleared away dishes without prompting, didn't bring fresh small plates after taking dirty ones - i was gonna...well, i took a deep breath and chalked it up to not liking aussies.

the portions were reasonable for the small plate price. the highlight was the squash salad; very tasty but nothing else stood out. the olives in the martini were crisp but had a very sour bite though oddly without any saltiness.

the floor show was entertaining. our waiter while at another table was, i thought at first, about to decant a bottle of red wine. but he then inverted the bottle upside down into the decanter only to revert the decanter and bottle, draining the wine - with any and all sediment thoroughly mixed in - back into the bottle from which he then poured. hunh?

forgot this last in my initial review:

but the best part was amenuitem called calabrian chilli. some friends of mine are 2nd generation restaurateurs including one venue that has been a downtown fixture for nearly three decades. when i asked them, "what is calabrian chili" i received three different answers. "not sure but likely spicy." "some sort of veggies & hot peppers mix." and - my favorite - "how the f*** would i know?" all three are first generation italians whose parents hail from...wait for it...calabria.

i miss roots.

reality check, please?. ok - i really hate to be the dissenting voice, here, but honestly? don't we need a bit of a reality check for this "tapas-style" restaurant? i know, i know - they call it "como viene" ("as it comes" - and more on that in a sec). and i know it's evidently the trendy place to be. but seriously. the food, drinks and overallmenuat wolf peach are fine. and i mean that - we didn't experience a train wreck during our recent visit with our group of six. one, maybe two entrees were standouts; the majority were average; one in particular was seriously lacking and i'd never order it again. for me, that's kind of an "average experience" when dining out (perhaps sad to say). added to the previously described, we experienced service that was forgettable, an excessively loud and rather drafty environment, a table that wobbled so significantly that our drinks sloshed and spilled from mere "cutting" (and get this - the waiter says, "yeah - we have problems with all of these tables." huh?!? well, shim them, for example!), and unquestionably the most bizarrely paced meal i have ever experienced. this, evidently, is "como viene." i call it nothing more than an excuse for "poor kitchen management." you know those odd times when the conversation in your group suddenly falls into this strange and uncomfortable space - because nothing else is happening during the meal you're attempting to share? yeah, well, my advice on that? you might want to practice back-filling those sorts of awkward moments at home in front of a mirror before you pop over to wolf peach with your "familiar, but not-quite-close-friends" group. and another thing that every person at our table noticed. the "entrees to share" that come to the table - almost without exception - came with no serving implements in the dish. so... at a time when we are experiencing one of the worst flu seasons in several years, we are all repeatedly digging into the shared dishes with our own silverware? that is an infection control issue, far more than a presentation failure. in summary, once again - i repeat - the overall food experience i guess was fine, but i just couldn't bring myself to say that i "like" that - because the truth is i don't. i expect a lot more from a pricey, trendy meal out with a group. and based on other milwaukee restaurants we've gone to, i can say that there are plenty of amazing alternatives. not quite sure what all the hoopla is about for wolf peach. definitely no more than a 5/10 for us at this visit.

don't bother. food was unremarkable. the method of serving food when it is fresh and ready failed because when the scallop dish arrived, the scallops are cold. it was too dark to read themenuat our table. we had to ask twice for our empty plates to be cleared from the table. i could go on, but why bother.

bring your strong readers!. went to wolf peach last saturday with another couple. we were seated pretty quickly. our server was great. she explained that it is more of a sharing atmosphere so that's what we did. my favorite was a flatbread pizza and dessert. my one complaint is that themenuis printed in such a small font that i couldn't even read it with my readers. it's not that there wasn't room for bigger print. this was very frustrating as i had to rely on my friend to read the menu. overall, the food was good and we enjoyed ourselves.
