?????. we've lived in lex. for 3 years and until recently have enjoyed winchell's. they seem to be cutting corners. i've seen this happen to other restaurants and it's not a good sign. specials such as the pot pie are no longer worth the asking price: $12.99 and up. regular menu items such as the reuben sandwich used to be consistently good.....no longer. if winchell's is going to charge $8.99 or $9.99 with fries it should be top notch.
i'll give it a couple more tries because it used to be so good.

neighborly. you can almost expect to see "norm" in this place. you can tell they are patronized by many regulars. i have had a saturday breakfast but last night we met there for a girls night. the ky proud on the menu is impressive and the prices reflect genuine concern to use local meats and veggies. the menu is somewhat intimidating with so many choices as well as hearing the nightly specials. we had drinks and appetizers after looking over the menu for a long time. the potato skins and mushrooms are do this again for sure especially the mushrooms. they were fresh lightly battered with horseradish dipping. the shavings of parmesan was a nice touch. they have west 6 on draft a local beer and i tried it for the first time in amber (suggested by hour waitress) i must say she gave excellent service and didn't hover too much so we could talk. overall it was a nice time and i will go back with my husband soon. i wish the decor could be more appealing and a good cleaning would be nice (there is a smell of stale cigarette)

the waitress was exceptionally nice! the owner of the restaurant was quite possibly one of the rudest individuals i've ever met. will not be going back.

great breakfast. the months i work nights are made a little easier knowing that in the morning i have a winchell's breakfast to look forward to.

yes, this is a sports bar, however it definitely is, in my opinion one of the most underrated breakfast establishments in lexington.

the food is just spot on, cooked correctly with good ingredients. if you're feeling hungry, try the "elvis pancakes," which are a usual special item and include a peanut butter and banana topping. i usually opt for a spicy bloody mary w/ an egg and bacon dish complete with their delicious "jalapeno cheese grits" which are absolutely delicious.

waitstaff are attentive and friendly. all in all, i would definitely recommend giving it a try.

ok, for bar type food, this place isn't too bad. they actually had quite a scrumptious blt - they did not skimp on the bacon! you had to ask for mayo though, it didn't come with it. the house chips were also quite tasty and not overridden by salt. it was clean, and the wait staff was friendly and accommodating to our large group of people. the desserts were really good. we had a white chocolate raspberry cheesecake, while others at the table had smore's sunday's and one sunday brownie with nutella. these were devilishly good. i'm not sure if they make these in house, or order out for them, but it was a good end to a meal. we will be going back here again after a few hours of bowling at southland.

friendly enough staff, but........

large menu full of overpriced, mediocre food.

started with a classic, fried green tomatoes, received 8 super thin slices that tasted of nothing but corn meal and saturated with bacon grease. seasoning and proper draining guys.

bland potato soup was palatable with a hefty dose of salt and pepper; paired with a ham and fontina sandwich, served dry. put a layer of the horseradish (how do you make bland horseradish????), salt, and pepper and managed to finish it. please note that the ham itself was superb. washed it all down with a $3 fountain soda.
will not be returning.

well it finally happened. i've been going to this place since it opened under its first owners over 15 years ago. while food has slipped some in the last couple of years, the portions have decreased with an uncalled for increase in price (as compared to their now in the area competition. $14 for a 2x4x1" fish slab for fish and chips that includes a lot of fries and small side bowl of mac and cheese is pretty expensive for this market. service was not terrible but definitely mediocre. sad, as i used to frequent once a week. too many better choices in the area at lower prices and better service now. once their significantly older clients, who go there out of habit, fade away they'll have to adjust. in the meantime several other newer local restaurants have earned the business winchells gave away.

the hot brown and meatloaf are very tasty. most everything else i've eaten here has not disappointed. as someone else mentioned, the bloody mary is one of the best around. always on the top of the "where should we eat tonight" list.

7/11/2015-dropped by for lunch, gourmet burger, homemade chips, jalapeno cheese grits, and sweet iced tea. the burger was good--tasted the grill flavor (similar to a burger king flame broiling), chips were okay and the jalapeno cheese grits were awesome. i would definitely enjoy the grits for breakfast.

i rated only a 3 because winchell's is nothing out of the ordinary, just basic fare and not stepped up any.

disclosure- i've only been here for breakfast. awesome breakfast it tis! pancakes are fantastic (try the almond joy!) and breakfast potatoes are the best i've had. pepperjack sausage omlet is out of this world. another fav is the corn beef hash; make sure and be there early as they often run out of it!
