absolutely adore everything about this place! great new addition to okc. i was lucky enough to be invited to the soft opening and everything was excellent! i'm a vegetarian and so they offered to let me switch to the edamame and mushroom burger. my girlfriends ordered a pork dinner and turkey sandwich and they loved their meals. i couldn't say enough positive things about my veg burger! it was delicious! the atmosphere is very earthy, kitschy, farmhouse, even down to the bartenders who wear suspenders and newsboy hats. ;) thewhiskeycake was just sinful...sooooooo delicious!! homemade whipped cream and the most decadent cake i've ever tasted! this is definitely our new favorite spot! chef kenneth kills it here! keep it upwhiskeycake! :)

dessert was great...the rest was just okay.. tried this place last night. i really like the concept. the service was not great. after being seated our drink order was taken immediately, a beer and a glass of wine. twenty minutes later they came back to take our meal order. our entrees came out before our drinks and we had to ask for them. i had the steak and frites. the steak had really good flavor and the tomatos that came on the salad were probably the best i've ever had. the portion sizes for the price were not great. i love to eat at high end places, but i do not think i will be back here for dinner. we did get thewhiskeycake though and it was amazing. maybe if i have a night i just want a glass of wine and dessert, i will be back.

be prepared for drink up charge. went to check the place out on may 10th. good ambience, interesting decor. food was eclectic and reasonably good. prices were average to a bit high, but thewhiskeycake was excellent. complaint is to warn finewhiskeydrinkers to be aware of the up charge when ordering your drinks on the rocks. i ordered the tom handy rye at $25 a pop, on the rocks, and was surprised to see the bill for $27. upon inquiring, i was told by the manager that this is the "up charge" for the larger pour furnished on the rocks and quote "every bar does the same thing". sorry to say, but the manager, who looked 1/2 my age admitted that he had not been to a number of restaurants i named in la, nyc, boston, vancouver, san francisco, london, frankfurt, seattle, vegas, phoenix, dallas and all of the more upscale places in okc, which have never charged me more for a drink poured over ice. the issue wasn't the 5 - 6 dollars that he eventually refunded, it was the underhanded way they tried to squeeze a few extra bucks onto the tab and the condescending manner in which they tried to "educate" me as to the finer points of bar tending finesse. even though you can find this practice by googling it, i have never, ever, ever, been charged more than the price listed just because i ordered ice with my drink, anywhere in the world. so go, enjoy the average food at slightly higher than average prices and hope you don't have to deal with anyone other than your server.

for all those 'poor service' reviews, especially those who believe the youngsters got better service, our experience was totally opposite. we had drinks, appetizers, and a piece of the heavenlywhiskeycake and had exceptional service by austin. i'm 65 and my wife is 63...so much for the young theory. we will be back!! ps. the sazerac is authentic and very good.

i went in for dinner last friday night and then again this last week. second time, not by choice (co-workers wanted to try it out). the place looked pretty cool when i drove by so we decided to stop in. walking in, there was a wait. no problem. it's friday night. when we were seated, we sat in an almost dark part of the restaurant. i couldn't even read the menu. our waitress taylor, came about 5 minutes after we were seated. she hardly spoke to us the entire time and came off a bit snooty and cold. which must be the theme of this place since it was about 40 degrees in the restaurant. the menu was different, which i liked since my wife and i are pretty adventurous eaters. we ordered a couple drinks from the bar, which were delecious but not worth the 20 minute wait to actually get them. our waitress took our order (i had the omg burger and my wife got the lamb dip). food was actually really tasty and came out in a timely manner. thank goodness, because my wife was frigid cold. also, the floors were wet throughout the place. it made it look dirty, and i even saw a waitress nearly fall. anyway, we didn't see our waitress for a while, i guess she was too busy with the table of young men she was constantly hovering over. all together, that visit was about a c average. food was pretty, but service was sub-par.

later in the week when my co-workers and i went for lunch it was a different atmosphere. no wait, lots of employees helping each other out, and everything was efficient and delicious. our waitress tamara was so sweet and knowledgeable. she seemed passionate about the place and told us what the place was about, unlike out waitress from friday night. i loved hearing about all the local oklahoma products they use. even the fountian drinks! pretty cool. the lunch menu is just about the same as the dinner menu. i must say, the bredding on the fried green tomatoes is amazing. i tried the bahn mi, which was pretty good. not sure its worth the price, but very tasty. also, i cant forget about how amazing thewhiskeycake is! its to die for. id come back just for that heavenlywhiskeycake! this may sound odd, but the only thing to really complain about was how many people, managers and wait staff kept bothering us. it was a working lunch, so it would have been nice to not have a different person coming up to the table every 4 minutes asking how things were. a manager (i think and hope it was a manger, management apparently do not wear name tags or uniforms) asked us 3 times how we were. we kind of joked about this woman, who looked about 21 in wrinkled clothes who kept coming by as if she forgot she talked to us every 10 minutes. maybe there's a lack of communication, i don't know.

so all in all, i'd recommend everyone try this place at least once. it's nice to have a different and new restaurant here in okc. but be prepared for an expensive experience! it is a little overpriced but a refreshingly different expirence.

my wife and i are officially addicted towhiskeycake. we are both on diets and we choose to spend our date nights and diet cheat nights there. salads are great for everyday and thewhiskeycake is an amazing reason to cheat. we come to see lori every time. she is always happy, super knowledgable about the menu and is interested in helping find the best menu item for the night. she has never been a let down nor has the food!

whiskey cake is a little different concept and very good.. a group of 4 just got back fromwhiskeycake on memorial day, 2014. we arrived about 5:30 and were promptly seated. however, if you arrive a little later on most any day you will be waiting for a table. it's a very popular place. we started with the fried green tomatoes. i am not a big fan but these were good! also had a carmelized onion dip and chips. excellent. we split the three little pigs sliders and they were fine. save room for thewhiskeycake. it is $8 per and can easily be split by two. also excellent. i think we will definitely go back.

whiskey cake is truly a unique experience, especially in oklahoma city. i love the farm to fork aspect of dining here. you're getting 100% locally grown and raised food on your plate. every server i've had is extremely knowledgeable of the menu and where the ingredients come from. i've never had bad service, if anything i come for the food and stay for the service. i appreciate that the chef gets to play around with menu items like the french toast or the deviled eggs. it makes it feel more like a person is feeding you than a factory style line of cooks. i prefer to catch sunday brunch here where i order the chicken and waffles and the jalapeño cheddar drop biscuits. if i go for dinner, i usually order the farm chicken. always great flavor with both meals. the grits and the brussels sprouts are must try sides- however the sprouts seem to vary from visit to visit. sometimes i love them sometimes i hate them but it's one of those things where it's worth the risk because when they're good they're great. and of course it's basically required that you try thewhiskeycake. they named the whole restaurant after it so you know it's good.

new favorite place!. very unique atmosphere and some of the best blends of flavors i have had in a very long time. they offered call-ahead seating which saved us probably an hour of waiting (on mother's day.) the service was outstanding and the staff really knows their stuff. very impressive. we had to wait virtually no time for drinks, appetizers and our meals and there was no doubt the food was made fresh and the taste was outstanding! brena was server and deserves a huge round of applause. i truly hopewhiskeycake realizes what she is worth.

this place is soooooo gimmicky and looks like a joke about hipsters on a sitcom.

but the food is so good! especially the deviled egg appetizer, the mac n cheese, and the signaturewhiskeycake.

the waitstaff really take a while with the specials but they don't hover afterwards. despite being very busy it's nice for a date or quiet dinner.

also, the decor and schtick kinds grew on me i love looking in the garden out front and the taffy on the way out is a nice touch.

i went towhiskeycake yet again to try out the sunday brunch. i noticed that the menu was kind of small, but the scotch, whiskeyand bourbon, cocktails drinks took up the other three pages. i didn’t see any kids brunch choices. every restaurant makes chicken and waffles different. i was drawn to the chicken in waffles because of the chicken tenders strips vs. the usual two piece wing bone in. the strips could have had a little bit more seasoning, but the battered crust was really good. the strips made it easier to eat the chicken and waffle at the same time. i requested that my eggs be fried and on the side, because how eggs are cooked can sometimes make my stomach queasy. i’m glad that i got the eggs on the side because they would have been on top of my waffle as i saw from the table next to me. i would have liked the chicken strips to have been a little bigger, but it was brunch and not a dinner entrée so i somewhat understood. the reason why the infamous “rosco’s chicken n waffles in california is so successful is because you get a boat load of food with sweet and salty goodness. the proportions are massive @ rosco’s.whiskeycakes variation was interestingly different. the waffle was a good size but was a little dense for me. i expected it to be light and fluffy. the most creative thing about the dish was the bacon was cooked dead smack center of the waffle. ( which i posted a close up picture). there was also a sausage gravy that was drizzled on the chicken and one side of the waffle. i didn’t think that the chicken and waffles should have been priced at $13.00. i’m somewhat bias on the meal. i had to ask for syrup and it was cold. the waitress suggested next time to ask for it warm. upon this visit i got a chance to sit next to the outside seating area, i was glad to sit by the outside patio because it was freezing cold inside. in this area there was a floral print couch, farm like chairs and rustic coffee table. it was like sitting in the kitchen of grandma’s house for sunday breakfast. i did notice a majority of people had bloody mary’s to drink. it would have been nice to have a mimosa with my brunch, but not at the cost of $8. mimosa are supposed to be inexpensive unless you’re using a higher end champagne to upcharge. there is plenty of other items that i plan to try in the near future. maybe one day i can gain a new respect for whiskey, bourbon and scotches to pay some of those prices. i had no idea they could be astronomically pricey. on my way out i notices two things the complimentary
various flavors of salt water taffy & mason jars of locally made items. these were all really tasty, these really reminded me of my great grandmothers house in which she use to keep a candy dish by the front door. just right outside the door were locally relishes, pickled okra, chow chow salsa, apple butters in mason jars. i started to buy some of the pickled okra until i saw it was priced at $7. not today, maybe another day.

the official grand opening. today may 13,2013 is the official opening ofwhiskeycake for lunch and dinner. dinner will only be served on saturday so no lunch. i was told during soft opening last week, by my server that the brunch would not kick off the until 2 weeks after the grand opening. but when i looked onwhiskeycake's fb page, they stated that there will be brunch and dinner only on sunday. brunch will be from 11 am to 3pm. i can’t wait for next sunday to do a full review of brunch selection.

3 little pigs on a brick?!!. sowhiskeycake said to hell with the plate, lets put these pigs on a brick.
(i love it) which in terms of the 3 little pigs childhood story we know the pig house made with bricks didn't get blowed down. so huff and puff and try these savory pork sliders!

-----09 may, 2013-----

chicken meatballs. absolutley fantastic. i got about 8 homemade chicken meatballs in a homemade tomato, marinara chunky, savory sauce. let me explain that this restaurant has its own spice garden, which weekly garnishing of spices will change on a dish. (i know right, who does that? a+++++) on this level regarding food i don’t know any other restaurant that takes food this seriously and passionately. because most other ingredients are local and are based on the season and availability. this in my opinion will keepwhiskeycakes homemade dishes a step above the rest. even in the aspect of “good egg groups & keep it local as for example.
the only thing that was missing was some type of pasta or bread to sop, yes sop up the rest of the sauce. this was a hearty appetizer and not an entrée’ so i understand why. (wishful thinking) i was very skeptical to try this dish because the thought of chicken being packed in a meatball form. it didn’t sound appetizing, but i was wrong. i was very glad that i tasted the dish first before adding any salt or pepper, because it was already seasoned perfectly. there were two spoons with parmesan cheese and red peppers to take it up a notch in spice. the little white crockpot bowl with lid was very cute. the presentation on the dish was like eating from martha stewart or paula deans homemade recipes’ for dinner. i scrupulously love the grandma, great aunt comfort food and inside décor. i prefer to sit in the bar top or booth area in view of the bar. you can see what’s going on. i like to take in the scenery and be nosey to see what dishes other people order. but if you want a lot more privacy or intimacy then the booths and room located in the back of the restaurant will suffice. perfect seating to not be seen by the majority of the restaurant. back to these homemade chicken meat balls, i saved 2 for my breakfast for the next day, i can’t explain the flavor party that my mouth has experienced. thewhiskeycake restaurant will be around for a long time. i predict just as successful as the one in plano texas. oh and by the way the official grand opening is may 13,2013 for lunch and dinner. for the week of may 6-12. 2013 they are only open from 5pm-11pm for dinner only. the staff are very patient with me when ordering or when i have questions about the menu. i love the décor and the staff’s uniform, reminds you of modern, chic country. of course for dessert i had thewhiskeycake, which is stupendous.

-----06 may, 2013-----

so i decide to jump into dessert first. thewhiskeycake is not just good, its amazingly awesome! have you ever been lost for words in cake heaven, yes i immediately died and went to cake heaven. with the fresh whipped cream, it makes you forget the need for ice cream. the only negative i have to say is that i feel sorry for people who have pecan allergies. i apologize in advance, because the pecans are spiced & add a great topping. i believe there is bourbon/whiskey in the cake. its definitely
www.thebomb.com. i wish my tastes buds could be seen, because they are turning cartwheels of cake joy!

always unique, flavorful, and fun eats here! awesome staff who really know and love the menu. we’ve never been disappointed, whether lunch or dinner.whiskeycake is in our top favorite date night spots in okc. their lunch is excellent too - love their juices - jessica wabbit and pink drink are both so flavorful and refreshing. favorite items: rotisserie farm bird, omg burger, shrimp & grain salad, rutabaga and carrot mash, and adult mac n cheese.
