really enjoyed everything about this place! the interior designer was amazing! waitstaff was very informative and told me just what to expect in my order since there are absolutely no pictures on the menu. the food was exciting, very flavorful, and fun. there were more pages of bar drinks than there were food but i was very happy with the offerings. can't wait to gobackfor lunch instead of brunch.

saturday brunch - 5-25. four women went to the new restaurant to celebrate a birthday and were sad to see the elephant bar all gone. still, we were pleased with the new ambience and were seated immediatley, although the place was crowded. we thought the menu was all about alcoholic drinks with four pages of drinks and only one with the brunch offerings. we started to leave but then decided why not stay and try it, a new restaurant at least deserves one try. we ordered a variety of eats, including the home made tomato soup. upon tasting our entrees and soup we quickly changed our minds about the place and decided it would be one of our regular eateries now. the manager, who recognized our little group from his last restaurant job, was most pleasant, welcoming and informative. the foods are prepared from fresh foods daily and were extremely tasty. one of the things i found really wonderful was the bread. i haven't had bread like that since i was in new england. thin, crisp exterior with a warm, ever so soft center. the soups change daily and are also made from scratch. someone in the kitchen really knows how to "scratch"! it was unbelievebly good and not acidy like most tomato soups are. mmmmmm, we'll bebackagain very soon.

dessert was great...the rest was just okay.. tried this place last night. i really like the concept. the service was not great. after being seated our drink order was taken immediately, a beer and a glass of wine. twenty minutes later they camebackto take our meal order. our entrees came out before our drinks and we had to ask for them. i had the steak and frites. the steak had really good flavor and the tomatos that came on the salad were probably the best i've ever had. the portion sizes for the price were not great. i love to eat at high end places, but i do not think i will bebackhere for dinner. we did get the whiskey cake though and it was amazing. maybe if i have a night i just want a glass of wine and dessert, i will be back.

i went in for dinner last friday night and then again this last week. second time, not by choice (co-workers wanted to try it out). the place looked pretty cool when i drove by so we decided to stop in. walking in, there was a wait. no problem. it's friday night. when we were seated, we sat in an almost dark part of the restaurant. i couldn't even read the menu. our waitress taylor, came about 5 minutes after we were seated. she hardly spoke to us the entire time and came off a bit snooty and cold. which must be the theme of this place since it was about 40 degrees in the restaurant. the menu was different, which i liked since my wife and i are pretty adventurous eaters. we ordered a couple drinks from the bar, which were delecious but not worth the 20 minute wait to actually get them. our waitress took our order (i had the omg burger and my wife got the lamb dip). food was actually really tasty and came out in a timely manner. thank goodness, because my wife was frigid cold. also, the floors were wet throughout the place. it made it look dirty, and i even saw a waitress nearly fall. anyway, we didn't see our waitress for a while, i guess she was too busy with the table of young men she was constantly hovering over. all together, that visit was about a c average. food was pretty, but service was sub-par.

later in the week when my co-workers and i went for lunch it was a different atmosphere. no wait, lots of employees helping each other out, and everything was efficient and delicious. our waitress tamara was so sweet and knowledgeable. she seemed passionate about the place and told us what the place was about, unlike out waitress from friday night. i loved hearing about all the local oklahoma products they use. even the fountian drinks! pretty cool. the lunch menu is just about the same as the dinner menu. i must say, the bredding on the fried green tomatoes is amazing. i tried the bahn mi, which was pretty good. not sure its worth the price, but very tasty. also, i cant forget about how amazing the whiskey cake is! its to die for. id comebackjust for that heavenly whiskey cake! this may sound odd, but the only thing to really complain about was how many people, managers and wait staff kept bothering us. it was a working lunch, so it would have been nice to not have a different person coming up to the table every 4 minutes asking how things were. a manager (i think and hope it was a manger, management apparently do not wear name tags or uniforms) asked us 3 times how we were. we kind of joked about this woman, who looked about 21 in wrinkled clothes who kept coming by as if she forgot she talked to us every 10 minutes. maybe there's a lack of communication, i don't know.

so all in all, i'd recommend everyone try this place at least once. it's nice to have a different and new restaurant here in okc. but be prepared for an expensive experience! it is a little overpriced but a refreshingly different expirence.

**updated** total turn-around!. after i wrote my initial review (below), i received a call from the manager, apologizing and asking us to call ahead next time, so he could guarantee us a fantastic experience. my husband and i decided to go in tonight on a whim, and it was a night-and-day experience! excellent service, outstanding food (i had the chicken melt and my husband had the smoked duck), climate control issues fixed. we were seated within the promised wait time, and offered drinks while we waited. darnell, our server, was very attentive. overall, it was a great experience -- no call-ahead to the manager necessary! i guarantee we'll be back!

**********************************************************************************

we went with some family members -- party was 9 people total. the restaurant was freezing cold, and our server told us the thermostat was not working properly and they couldn't adjust the temperature up. a member of our party ordered a mixed drink, the rest of us ordered "standard" beverages. our beverages came fairly quickly (with the exception of the drink), but we sat for 20 minutes before our server took our order.

after another 20 minutes, the kids' meals came out. when the member of our party who had ordered the drink asked about it, our server told her she "would have to check on it" with the bartender. when our party member said she'd rather cancel it, the story instantly changed to "oh, the bartender is mixing it now. it'll be right out". fascinating, since you never left our table -- but suddenly you know exactly where the drink is in the bartender's queue. the drink then arrived in 5 minutes (it's magic!).

15 minutes after the kids' meals were served, most of the rest of the table's food arrived -- in stages. different members of the three tickets received their food at different times, and three items were left off entirely. the food was very good, but frankly overpriced. after another 15 minutes, when our server reappeared, we asked about the items missing (2 salads and a side of green beans). we were told (again) that she would check on it. we asked to cancel the items, since we were done eating and beyond ready to go. our server left our table -- 5 minutes later, a runner with a salad appeared at our table and was insistent that we take it. we told him "no, we asked our server to cancel it." after we argued with him and repeatedly refused the salad, he left. our server cameback-- we reiterated to her that we no longer wanted the items, we just wanted our checks. another 10 minutes went by -- and another runner showed up with a salad, insisting it was ours. we declined it, but he set it down on the table next to one of the kids (who isn't going to argue with him about it because she's 7!) and walked away without a word. closer inspection of the salad revealed it wasn't even one of the salads we had ordered.

it took another 30 minutes to wrap up the checks and get out. we were offed free dessert (no thanks, we don't want to wait another 45 minutes), and we were not charged for the items the kitchen left off our order (i don't even want to think about how long that would have taken to sort out). our server was very attentive, when she was present. but she was mia for some fairly long stretches, and we never saw anyone who resembled a manager on the floor, checking on service or guests.

while the food is tasty, the service is abysmal. the kitchen seems to have some serious organization issues, and i have to assume that servers have been instructed to do whatever it takes to prevent guests from cancelling items because they're tired of waiting -- which is sad in and of itself. i lost count of the number of times i saw kitchen runners go to a table with hot food, have the table tell them that's not what we ordered, and then wander until they found a server who could point them in the right direction -- as the food rapidly cools in the frigid restaurant.

for the price ($15-25 per entree), it's just not worth it. the food is very good, no question -- but the restaurant is incredibly loud, compounding the ridiculously slow service.

we were very excited to try out this new restaurant in a location that we would usually never consider since we had heard good reviews from friends. we arrived around noon on sunday, restaurant was somewhat busy but no wait. we were promptly seated in the verybackroom... i guess because we have kids? the ambiance is pretty lamebackthere, not at all like the rest of the restaurant. i was shocked that our french pressed coffee was served in the most hideous thrift store mugs you've ever seen (not cool vintage, more like 90's). and then, my chicken and waffles was served on a hideous plate to match! the ugly dishes definitely altered the way my food tasted... i know that sounds dumb but its true. i felt like i was at my grandmas house. and to top it all off the forgot to send out the maple syrup and gravy with my meal which meant everything was super dry. all this to say, the food was good enough that we will try again for lunch or dinner and hope they don't use those dishes again and we will specifically request to sit in the main dining area.

whiskey cake is a little different concept and very good.. a group of 4 just gotbackfrom whiskey cake on memorial day, 2014. we arrived about 5:30 and were promptly seated. however, if you arrive a little later on most any day you will be waiting for a table. it's a very popular place. we started with the fried green tomatoes. i am not a big fan but these were good! also had a carmelized onion dip and chips. excellent. we split the three little pigs sliders and they were fine. save room for the whiskey cake. it is $8 per and can easily be split by two. also excellent. i think we will definitely go back.

i went to whiskey cake yet again to try out the sunday brunch. i noticed that the menu was kind of small, but the scotch, whiskey and bourbon, cocktails drinks took up the other three pages. i didn’t see any kids brunch choices. every restaurant makes chicken and waffles different. i was drawn to the chicken in waffles because of the chicken tenders strips vs. the usual two piece wing bone in. the strips could have had a little bit more seasoning, but the battered crust was really good. the strips made it easier to eat the chicken and waffle at the same time. i requested that my eggs be fried and on the side, because how eggs are cooked can sometimes make my stomach queasy. i’m glad that i got the eggs on the side because they would have been on top of my waffle as i saw from the table next to me. i would have liked the chicken strips to have been a little bigger, but it was brunch and not a dinner entrée so i somewhat understood. the reason why the infamous “rosco’s chicken n waffles in california is so successful is because you get a boat load of food with sweet and salty goodness. the proportions are massive @ rosco’s. whiskey cakes variation was interestingly different. the waffle was a good size but was a little dense for me. i expected it to be light and fluffy. the most creative thing about the dish was the bacon was cooked dead smack center of the waffle. ( which i posted a close up picture). there was also a sausage gravy that was drizzled on the chicken and one side of the waffle. i didn’t think that the chicken and waffles should have been priced at $13.00. i’m somewhat bias on the meal. i had to ask for syrup and it was cold. the waitress suggested next time to ask for it warm. upon this visit i got a chance to sit next to the outside seating area, i was glad to sit by the outside patio because it was freezing cold inside. in this area there was a floral print couch, farm like chairs and rustic coffee table. it was like sitting in the kitchen of grandma’s house for sunday breakfast. i did notice a majority of people had bloody mary’s to drink. it would have been nice to have a mimosa with my brunch, but not at the cost of $8. mimosa are supposed to be inexpensive unless you’re using a higher end champagne to upcharge. there is plenty of other items that i plan to try in the near future. maybe one day i can gain a new respect for whiskey, bourbon and scotches to pay some of those prices. i had no idea they could be astronomically pricey. on my way out i notices two things the complimentary
various flavors of salt water taffy & mason jars of locally made items. these were all really tasty, these really reminded me of my great grandmothers house in which she use to keep a candy dish by the front door. just right outside the door were locally relishes, pickled okra, chow chow salsa, apple butters in mason jars. i started to buy some of the pickled okra until i saw it was priced at $7. not today, maybe another day.

the official grand opening. today may 13,2013 is the official opening of whiskey cake for lunch and dinner. dinner will only be served on saturday so no lunch. i was told during soft opening last week, by my server that the brunch would not kick off the until 2 weeks after the grand opening. but when i looked on whiskey cake's fb page, they stated that there will be brunch and dinner only on sunday. brunch will be from 11 am to 3pm. i can’t wait for next sunday to do a full review of brunch selection.

3 little pigs on a brick?!!. so whiskey cake said to hell with the plate, lets put these pigs on a brick.
(i love it) which in terms of the 3 little pigs childhood story we know the pig house made with bricks didn't get blowed down. so huff and puff and try these savory pork sliders!

-----09 may, 2013-----

chicken meatballs. absolutley fantastic. i got about 8 homemade chicken meatballs in a homemade tomato, marinara chunky, savory sauce. let me explain that this restaurant has its own spice garden, which weekly garnishing of spices will change on a dish. (i know right, who does that? a+++++) on this level regarding food i don’t know any other restaurant that takes food this seriously and passionately. because most other ingredients are local and are based on the season and availability. this in my opinion will keep whiskey cakes homemade dishes a step above the rest. even in the aspect of “good egg groups & keep it local as for example.
the only thing that was missing was some type of pasta or bread to sop, yes sop up the rest of the sauce. this was a hearty appetizer and not an entrée’ so i understand why. (wishful thinking) i was very skeptical to try this dish because the thought of chicken being packed in a meatball form. it didn’t sound appetizing, but i was wrong. i was very glad that i tasted the dish first before adding any salt or pepper, because it was already seasoned perfectly. there were two spoons with parmesan cheese and red peppers to take it up a notch in spice. the little white crockpot bowl with lid was very cute. the presentation on the dish was like eating from martha stewart or paula deans homemade recipes’ for dinner. i scrupulously love the grandma, great aunt comfort food and inside décor. i prefer to sit in the bar top or booth area in view of the bar. you can see what’s going on. i like to take in the scenery and be nosey to see what dishes other people order. but if you want a lot more privacy or intimacy then the booths and room located in thebackof the restaurant will suffice. perfect seating to not be seen by the majority of the restaurant.backto these homemade chicken meat balls, i saved 2 for my breakfast for the next day, i can’t explain the flavor party that my mouth has experienced. the whiskey cake restaurant will be around for a long time. i predict just as successful as the one in plano texas. oh and by the way the official grand opening is may 13,2013 for lunch and dinner. for the week of may 6-12. 2013 they are only open from 5pm-11pm for dinner only. the staff are very patient with me when ordering or when i have questions about the menu. i love the décor and the staff’s uniform, reminds you of modern, chic country. of course for dessert i had the whiskey cake, which is stupendous.

-----06 may, 2013-----

so i decide to jump into dessert first. the whiskey cake is not just good, its amazingly awesome! have you ever been lost for words in cake heaven, yes i immediately died and went to cake heaven. with the fresh whipped cream, it makes you forget the need for ice cream. the only negative i have to say is that i feel sorry for people who have pecan allergies. i apologize in advance, because the pecans are spiced & add a great topping. i believe there is bourbon/whiskey in the cake. its definitely
www.thebomb.com. i wish my tastes buds could be seen, because they are turning cartwheels of cake joy!

i had lunch herebackon 01 december. raegan and erin had eaten here several months earlier, and reported it to be expensive and not that good. i got thee right at noon. the place was pretty full, and i got seated at one of a number of high tables near the door and the bar instead of a proper table.

came here on 12/23 with my boyfriend and some of his family for a christmas get-together. the atmosphere as you walk inside is breathtaking. we were waited on by a very sweet young woman, whom i cannot remember her name. the food was amazing. i'd never had fried green tomatoes in my life and i can't wait to gobackand get them again. the basic burger was made to my specifications and perfect. and the whiskey cake....bliss. perfection.

fantastic lunch. this was my second visit to whiskey cake and i stopped in for lunch just as the highly publicized ice/snow storm was about to hit. i sat at the bar and enjoyed excellent service, which started with a hot toddie and a cup of french onion soup. for the main dish i had the jumbo grilled shrimp salad which was one of the best salads i've had in recent memory, and the house made 1000 island dressing was quite good with it. i will definitely bebackto try dinner next time i'm in town.

-----27 oct, 2013-----

lunch was excellent!. a good friend introduced a few of us to whiskey cake for lunch the other day and it was very nice. there are a few dining areas, nicely appointed and laid out. i had the soup of the day (french onion) with the garden salad. the soup had a rich broth with lots of onion and some croutons. a little white cheddar was melted into the soup, but not a thick, stringy coating like you usually get--it was very good. the salad was very fresh and the white balsamic dressing was terrific. everyone else liked their meals also (sweet potato hash & salad with fried chicken). service was excellent. we all liked it very much.

got to love the whiskey cake. i came here twice and the quality of the food is consistent and good. their main dishes are on the expensive side. i wentbackfor the second time because of the whiskey cake. it is soooooo good that i think about it often. the portion of the cake is large. so, save some space in your stomach for it.

overpriced, underseasoned, bad service. went to whiskey cake for a reunion with some friends. we all ordered drinks. i had the tennessee stud. awful. my friend ordered the great escape. she hated it as well. we were all jealous of our smart friend who ordered a draft beer. we told our server we weren't big fans of our drinks when he asked how they were, and his response was "oh, that's too bad." then he darted off. we did order our fried green tomatoes appetizer, which consisted of 5 slices. delicious!! well worth it, but i've had better portions for the same price at other places. one friend had the turkey burger, and the menu said they would "serve up a few kettle chips with them." boy, they weren't kidding. she had 3 tiny kettle chips with her tiny sky-high burger. she also ordered it without the cranberry, and it came with cranberry. it camebackto her with cranberry raked off, but you could still see little remnants all over it. i had the farm bird. first, it was tiny. second, it was bland. i really wish i would have ordered a side, but my friend ordered a side of "parmesean" fries that made mcdonald's fries look awesome. the only difference is that i would have actually put parm on them, because they didn't. my extremely non-picky friend hated her duck. the service was slow, poor and the place looked like a club. this was my second time there. hated it the first time, hated it this time. i will never go back.

whiskey cake. although the menu says it's a secret, the chef revealed it in a presentation. google will find it in a second. a lot of work to make--better have it here.

-----21 aug, 2014-----

well, not tonight.. whiskey cake is a good addition to the okc restaurant scene, imaginative, and i believe the owners are serious. i've had several good meals there, despite suffering through their rather precious opening ceremony: why are you here tonight? (to get my watch repaired.) may i tell you how special wck is? (well, not again, please) it's sort of like baby's first restaurant in a city that may not be manhattan or even (gulp) los angeles, but most of us are happy to see an herb garden out front and don't really need to exclaim. it's great, it's all locally sourced. let's be modest about it.

tonight was really awful--undertrained server, a food debacle. really good chips, however. i won't go into detail, anyone can have a bad night in the kitchen, the waitress might have been under the weather, hey. the templeton rye was good, if a modest portion at $9; if you like brown liquor, this is a good place. probably better off sitting at the bar.

the acute manager, killian leone, handled our disappointment with grace and generosity, more than was expected. knowing that an expert like her is on the scene speaks well of the intentions of the restaurant. more training, less preamble, bigger drinks, whiskey cake will be a place to comebackto.
