a treat!! so european-like!. charming place! it reminds you of these nice european restaurants in a quaint place or in the suburb of paris. decor is delightful, service impeccable, foodmenuexciting! dinner was a delight. all orders were perfect to the palate. we stayed among other tables way past their open hours and the service was still very nice! you may eat indoor or indoor-outdoor in the middle of greenery and with great seating! wine is on the table should you choose to have it. wonderful experience. love the place!! voted best restaurant in louisville in 2012 by the courier journal.

beautiful setting and awesome porch for outside seating. we had a group of 13 including some children so tough table for waitstaff but she handled it with finesse. separate checks on top of that and that did not faze her!
we ordered appetizers, entrees, wine, beer, and just about everything on themenuand some beer not on the menu. seems the sea hag bar downstairs had some better draft beers than the bar on the dining room level but our server was very pleasant and said that is not a problem and would get what ever we wanted. that is guest service exemplified. my only complaint would be one i have with many operations and that is not getting that first round of drinks out quick enough. i know it was a big order but management should jump in and get that round served and then i guarantee they would sell more in the long run. food and atmosphere great so find it and go enjoy!

the most amazing restaurant in louisville!. so many great things to say about this place. the food, service, drinks and general environment were amazing. i had no idea it was even in louisville! i loved frank sinatra crooning in the background...and their drinkmenuwas out of this world. especially the skinny menu. i had the short ribs---the best i've ever tasted; mashed potatoes were heavily buttered with a bit of garlic. perfect. my friend had the vegetarian lasagna. it was hot and made with three cheeses and three meats. don't miss this place like i did. it is truly a great spot.

kevin's meatloaf burger. it's the perfect burger if you're looking for a little change. a huge burger made from zesty meatloaf on a toasted pretzel bun. has a nice sauce on it, is dressed, and is topped with their sweet candied bacon. its unique in a good way!

i have heard lots of good things about the village anchor . i’ve also heard it’s pretty pricey unless you take advantage of one of their specials. the village anchor is located in the quaint village of anchorage which boasts the wealthiest tax base of all the school districts in kentucky. the restaurant has two parts: the village anchor proper, located on the top floor with a gorgeous outdoor patio, and the sea hag, located on the lower level with a bar inside and a large covered patio outside. the samemenuserves all guests regardless of which level you choose but the specials are only available at the sea hag.

wonderful versus "terrible". once again, my family and i had a wonderful experience at the village anchor for dinner this week. my husband and i have shared many lovely experiences and meals at what became our favorite restaurant in the louisville area the first time we ate there. these days, it seems no matter where you go out to eat, no matter how good some aspects of the encounter may be, there are often negatives....we've been places where the food is very good but the servers are rude or indifferent, or the atmosphere is not the best, etc. however at every trip to the village anchor, whether we've been seated in the restaurant, out on the lanai, down in the pub, out on the patio, regardless at each encounter, the staff's service has been outstanding, the food has been amazing every time. the atmosphere is friendly, astheically warm and fun. my husband and i have taken our grandchildren (5 and 8) there with us on several occasions...i will admit the first time, i wondered if that would be a good fit but any concerns i had were quickly gone...staff were so sweet to them and both kids "scarfed" the food with my grandson telling me this is "the best!"...who wouldn't love the sweet potato fries and marshmallow dipping sauc? of course very soon after we started going to the village anchor, it became very clear that because their food and service are so amazing, the result is that they stay very busy so we always call ahead or make online reservations to enhance our experience. we recommend this restaurant at every opportunity. what we tell folks is...if you can't decide what to get...just close your eyes and put your finger down on the menu...no matter where it hits....you are going to love it because we always try something new and everything we've ever gotten there is big portions and wonderful to eat. everyone from the servers, managers, bartenders, even the owner who we've met and spoken with several times were kind, cordial, funny, just so pleasant...refreshing to have an all around, wonderful experience... my favorite choices from themenuare the deviled egg appetizer; stilton potato soup, tblt&a; filet; shrimp and grits; fish tacos; well, you get the idea! i read the "terrible" review below and think that perhaps the author of that review might benefit from a little protein intake, i hear that fish is "brainfood", or if not, have an order of sweet potato fries and marshmallow dipping sauce...that's vegetarian friendly and might sweeten her up. thanks village anchor and sea hag pub for the great food and service! stacy ethington

my favorite restaurant in louisville!. yes, the viillage anchor is my husband's and my favorite restaurant in louisville. and we eat out a lot and don't even live anywhere near anchorage. why are we such big fans? 1.) the atmosphere on the covered outside patio (they call it "the lanai".) is sublime. we love kicking back there as a couple and have had so many fun evenings there enjoying time with friends. 2.) the food is wonderful. check out themenuonline and realize that no matter how appealing things sound, they somehow are even better in-person. in a word, this chef is amazing...every time we go, our biggest dilemma is deciding what to order.. and we've very very rarely been disappointed. 3.) there are a wide variety of price points. don't be afraid to pick the less expensive options (e.g. fish tacos, fried chicken, fried bologna sandwich, meatloaf burger) because they're truly out-of-this-world. you might be surprised to find that it's possible to pay shockingly little for a first class meal. and i'm completely comfortable recommending the higher priced "splurge" entrees (rib eye steak, etc.) as well, because they are absolutely phenomenal. whatever your mood and whatever size party, you'll come away happy:)

business dinner. my husband and i met his boss and wife for dinner on tuesday, 8/21/12. reservations were made for 7:30pm. we arrived promptly at 7:30 and were seated at a table on the outskirts of the outdoor patio. it was an incredible evening (weather-wise) so the patio was jammed with people. however, there was no waiting since we had our reservation. they have a lovely patio and it certainly made for great surroundings. despite all the people, it wasn't so loud you couldn't have a conversation.

my husband and i started with a cocktail which was brought promptly while we waited for the other couple to join us. i was fine with the wait because we wanted to have time to peruse the extensive menus. my cabernet was excellent (st francis, i believe). we decided on two appetizers between the four of us; the brushchetta and the green chili wontons (i believe this was the special). both were wonderful and had an excellent presentation.

my husband and his boss each had a dinner salad. the dinner salad's were a perfect size to start off the meal. my husband had the caesar salad. it was fresh but not overpowering. the fresh baked parmesean cheese reminded me of the parmesaen bowls served at napa river grill. the fresh made croutons weren't anything too special.

then came dinner. i elected to try the fried chicken. to be honest, it didn't have much flavor and the chicken was dry. i also felt it was overly breaded. the breast was dry but the leg was better. the garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. my husband chose to have the ribeye which he ordered medium. when he cut into it, it was raw. i had visions of gordan ramsay slamming the plate down in the kitchen at his chefs and screaming "it's raw" as he made each chef come over and touch it just to see what raw meat felt like. it made me chuckle.

the boss had the short ribs which he said were just fine and his wife had swordfish (a dinner special). she thought her swordfish was cold. so, the server came and returned the ribeye and the swordfish to the kitchen. both were returned to us a short time later and were now cooked as ordered. however, my husband felt as if the ribeye didn't have much flavor. i would think that if you paid $34 for a steak, it would be flavorful and tasty. so, he was disappointed to say the least. i didn't complain about my chicken since i figured that white meat is typically overcooked so possibly wouldn't make a difference.

as soon as the re-cooked plates were brought back out, it was followed by a manger who was sincerely apologetic. since the food was made correctly after the 2nd attempt, we all felt it was extremely nice of him to offer free desserts for each of us (since i was anxious to try the banana pudding with nila wafers). so, i had that and was floored at the quanity that was put in front of me. it was so scrumptious and would've certainly fed two. my husband had the cheesecake and thought it was wonderful as well. the other couple tried ice cream and i did get a taste of the dulce-de-leche scoop and thought it was just to die for.

i would certainly like to go back simply to try other items on themenu(the meatloaf burger sounds intriguing); maybe on an evening when they aren't so packed. it's certainly possible that it played a roll in the quality of the entrees that were received. we were there for 2 1/2 hours so definitely don't be in a hurry if it's crowded. just sit back and enjoy the atmosphere.

delicious, creativemenuwith a totally unexpected atmosphere, unfortunately killed by mediocre service and a tacky and insulting suggestion on the check present asking the customer to tip 20 - 25%. that part was unfortunate.

if only there had been some salt and pepper..... after hearing many positive reviews of the village anchor, we decided to try it.

their first offense was visual. unfortunately for us, our first experience happened while they were decked out for mardi gras, so the already busy interior was amplified by gaudy beads and helium balloons attached to every table, and music you had to raise your voice over.

secondly, theirmenuhas absolutely no flow. none of the items were organized by category, and we found ourselves baffled by the way an entree was listed above a salad that was listed above an appetizer, followed by another entree, etc. i had to force myself to read the whole menu.

our server was nice, but very green. when you order an expensive bottle of wine, the server needs to be trained proper wine presentation.

oh, the food. i wish we could have met the creator of such flavorless food. nothing we ordered had proper seasoning. a $40 steak entree deserves at least an attempt at flavor. to make matters worse, there were not salt or pepper shakers on the table, which we found rather arrogant. the fish and chips, a rather simple dish, was the worst i'd ever had. the breading was soggy, the fish slimy, and the fries came straight out of a frozen gfs bag.

finally, when the check came for our already disappointing dining experience, it was placed in a paper sleeve that very inelegantly instructed us to tip our server 20-25%. insult to injury.

i would like to congratulate the village anchor in fooling the good people of anchorage into thinking that a quirky atmosphere and highly pricedmenutranslate into a desirable dining spot.

we ate dinner here and it was excellent. the service was also very good. themenuorganization was a bit odd but navigable. when we were there it was still a work in progress. it wasn't cheap but worth every penny. the sea hag bar on the second level was a great little place for a drink.
