no fresh squeezed juices like many other cafes of this type. sweet roll french toast is a treat when not burnt, which is more often than not. don't ask to substitute your muffin for any other bread, i, alone, ordered over $20 of breakfast and requested an english muffin instead of their muffin and was told it was a couple of dollars up charge...so, i left and went to a real breakfast place with fresh juices and a better attitude. there's so many of them now days.

nice place located in the very bazaar "trumanesque" norton commons. service for breakfast recently was good and the food, while good also, was nothing special. i got the verbena eggs benedict and they were very basic. other friends got nice dishes but again, nothing great. the omelets looked better so i'd like to return to try one day, but no hurry.

best breakfast place ever!. the food is phenomenal, and the service is impeccable. i live pretty far away from there and compared to all the other breakfast/lunch places i have been to, this is the best. some restaurants may have kids menu's but they aren't the best. the kids menu at verbena has a big variety which is awesome. i suggest for people to go to verbena cafe. it's so family-friendly so you can go there with the kids or anyone really.

as i sit eating my leftovers. it's just as good reheated as it was the day of. i got the spinach and bacon omelette. good balance of the two ingredients, neither overpowering the other. the hashbrowns, which so often can be just greasy potatoes are wonderfully seasoned and have cubes of potato throughout which give them way more substance. would highly recommend the restaurant

absolutely my favorite breakfast cafe. i live in norton commons, and riding my bicycle to this local cafe for breakfast with a friend is always a great experience. no huge, intrusive television screens; just the calming din of background conversation. great ambience, and the food is remarkable. i bring friends and family here all the time, and no one is ever disappointed.

awesome find just a short trip out of louisville!. picturesque location, great food, order anything... you can't go wrong. fresh ingredients, friendly staff for a great price. ...and not at all unusual to see the owner making sure all is well. it's clear that the whole team cares. :)

overall i like verbena. it is conveniently located for me & has a diverse menu. i have a few complaints- high prices & nothing organic or locally grown. hot tea is almost $3. the other day i got a greek salad that was 90% iceburg lettuce with a few tiny slices of olives and cucumber. i had to dig for those and the salad was $9.75. i won't do that again! the menu uses words like " natural" & "farm fresh" but they are just words. when asked, i was told the ingredients (such as eggs) are just normal ingredients. since i don't eat just normal eggs, that cuts out a large portion of the menu, especially if you don't want anything sweet. maybe they'll offer healthier items if more people say something.

love verbena cafe!. my husband and i absolutely love to eat breakfast or lunch at verbena cafe...we discovered it one day after being "regulars" at wild eggs for years. tired of planning our "wild eggs wait strategy" time after time (i.e. do we really have that much time to kill today?)- and having heard wonderful things from two different couples about verbena - we decided to switch gears and give it a try. we are sooo glad we did and very rarely ever go back now to wild eggs. the atmosphere at verbena is relaxing and delightful; we feel like we're on vacation when we're there and we love that. and the food is to-die-for! verbena cafe has the most extensive breakfast/lunch menu that we've encountered anywhere. and, as we happily eat our way through it, we've yet to find anything that falls short. whether we're in the mood for unique and fantastic omelets, yummy crepes, unusual pancakes, the best waffles, great french toast, terrific hot or cold sandwiches, or the best hashbrowns we've ever had, verbena always comes out on top. we've taken friends and extended family there now, and every single person has left raving and eager to return. i almost hate to write this because i don't want it to turn into another wild eggs with long waits, etc. but, even if it does, we'll take a seat and pick verbena every time!

this is our favorite breakfast and brunch stop on the weekends. the service is always friendly, the food isn't expensive, and we love dining out on the patio when the weather's nice. the diner area inside is a little noisy when full, but even that adds a cute southern diner ambiance that you can't help but find endearing.

always delightful. we eat regularly at verbena because it is hands down the best breakfast restaurant in town. the menu is wonderful, the food is consistently good and all of the staff and servers are helpful and gracious, no matter how busy they are. saturday and sunday mornings between 11:00am to 12:30 wait times can be a little long because the after-church crowds tend to all show up at once, but we expect that and if the waitstaff are working their butts off...and they always are...we cut them some slack. do unto others and all that.

the salmon hash, the blackstone benedict , the pancake platter and the blt are our family favorites, but there are many other great things on the menu. the ambience is very cheerful, the bathrooms are clean and gorgeous and the management is always responsive to customer concerns. we will keep on coming to verbena. nothing else comes close.

absolute worst dining experience. my family and i just had the worst dining experience ever. and we eat out a lot and spend a lot of money doing so. it took 45 minutes to get our food, so we asked to speak to the manager to find out what the issue was. when the "manager" came over, he seemed out of sorts. he said, with hands flailing, "your food is being taken care of, we are covering the bill." and then he hurried off, not allowing us to say a thing. my husband tried to ask for fresh fries, but he only rushed off, shaking his head. we asked to speak with the owner (who happens to be the "manager's" mom.) she spent the entire time giving excuses for the "stress" her son was under because of how busy it was. really? if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen, literally!! you never make excuses for your inadequacies--you need to apologize, move on, and learn how you can serve your customer better in the future. the son manager saw us talking to his mom, and he proceeds to try to argue with us, calling us stupid, waving us off with his hands! it truly was an experience. i have never been treated so horribly, just for asking for hot fries. the "manager" would have been fired on the spot in any other restaurant. i don't care how busy you are, if a customer's food takes 45 minutes to get, and it typically takes 20, then you, as the owner/manager should be apologizing and asking what you can get for me. we are very accepting of longer wait times (we have at this restaraunt before-and didn't complain), but what really sets this experience apart, was the behavior of the "manager." quite honestly, i am in shock. we used to come here at least 2 sundays a month, after church. never again.
