this is a great restaurant - so clean, the staff are really nice and accommodating and the food is really good. there are only 2 vietnamese places i go to in calgary - one isvanson and the other is lemongrass (the one near 17th, not the one by chinook)

ah, what a crazy m%&*king month! after a particularly hairy week, office dad and his boss choo choo train (cct) took me out for lunch. as it was snowing, cct didn’t want to walk. he wanted to go to his favourite vietnamese restaurant,vanson vietnamese cuisine. for this post, let’s listen to something completely random and silly.

my girlfriend and i get takeout fromvanson every thursday or friday and have been for over a year now. the vermicelli, sate peanut pho, and subs are all great. the staff is really nice too.

first time tryingvanson, the beef satay soup was amazing!!!! spicy, fresh flavourful! ordered takeout, everything was hot, fresh and ready to go.

this restaurant has become a regular lunch time spot for us. we stumbled across van son while we were looking for a quick bite to eat at lunch time. we’ve come here a few times now and we can honestly say that the food has been consistently great every time. if you’re looking for a heavy meal that’s going to probably send you to sleep for the afternoon, this place should be your go to restaurant. portions at vietnamese restaurants are always notoriously massive, andvanson never disappoints. i don’t think i’ve ever left without a giant bag of leftovers.

newly renovated, good food.vanson has replaced the previous tenant, vietnam palace, just recently. new owners gutted the whole place and made it into a nice clean restaurant! #31 pho sate bo has some nice flavors happening in the broth, and the beef is soft and tender. the sprouts, basil and lime are very fresh. if you like your pho traditional spicy, ask for extra sate on the side. for appies, try the #9, sweet and sour sauce or satay over egg tofu. delicious!

van son first impression.. it's our first visit tovanson and it's made a strong first impression. tender meat, nicely spiced and sated food. and the atmosphere is great. will definitely be returning often.

dissapointing. my husband and i frequented vietnamese palace, so were concerned when the restaurant took a new name and new ownership. we have since triedvanson twice, and both times were dissapointed with the food. the food lacks flavor, i had the lemongrass vermiccilli, and never tasted a hint of the lemongrass?!? also the old vietnamese palace was known for their delicious beef satay pho with peanuts(#30!)... ( i know people that drove across town for it!) .vanson does not have it :-( we are in search of a new vietnamese restaurant, and won't be back... one with the same menu as vietnamese palace.

my fiancé and i were crazy about vietnam palace. it was a great hole in the wall place with good food and prices and portions. we were anxious aboutvanson opening up in its place, worried it wouldn't be the same. but it's just as great! the renovations are really nice with a great color palate and it's very well done. the spring rolls were perfect! flaky, crisp and tasty! we left feeling so full! prices are comparable to vietnam palace and the portions are just as big. the lemongrass chicken is a great addition to the menu! we will continue to frequentvanson for the food and the great service! one of our favorite servers is still there too! best vietnamese place in calgary! trust us, when they were closed for renovations we tried several others that were highly ranked and none compare tovanson!
