union grill

i have been to "the grill" on many occasions and always leave satisfied. the service is excellent and the restaurant is very cozy. the food is not the best italian you will ever have, but it is quite high quality and easily one of the best restaurants in washington, pa. well worth a trip if you are in town.

dine out often. love this place! always great food!! veal special tonight was terrific. might be a restaurant in a basement of a building but its defiantly worth a try. bar reminds me of an old rathskeller which brings back memories. highly suggest!!

we met friends last night to have dinner for a friends birthday. there were 10 of us ( that was our first mistake ). we sat at a table against the wall in the room to the left . people kept coming out of the back room ( " the inferno" is what one man called that room) , and as they came out they had to practically climb over myself & my poor friend who had her back to the doorway where we were seated , blocking that entrance .
it started to get busy while we were eating & customers started lifting chairs to put by another long table that they were helping set up , all the while a crowd of about 15-20 people just hovering around the dining room near our table . we were all half way through our food when we started to get rushed out because they wanted our table !! as i was literally putting my fork in my mouth to eat i was asked by the bus boy if i wanted a to go box & if i was finished ! this happened not only once but 3 times !!!!! you could not put your fork down to chew or you were getting a box to hurry up & get out !
everyone at our table could not wait to get out of there , because there no relaxing at all ! we could not have even sat & had another drink to relax , since we were being pushed out !
my tuna salad was ok at best , tuna was way over done with a runny , too much vinegar , house dressing .
this is too bad , since this place used to be a way better & one we enjoyed to visit . it has gone down hill with no atmosphere whatsoever!
we won't be wasting our time driving from mcmurray & cecil to eat there again ! too many amazing choices in this area of the south hills to waste an evening !
the best thing was our server .
she was friendly, although my husband was almost done with his meal ( runny linguine with clams ) before he got the drink her ordered before our food even arrived . nothing to drink while eating ..... hmmm .

best in washington. was in town for a few weeks for work and ate at a variety of different places (many italian) and this was a step above the rest. pasta dishes are excellent as are their specialty dishes. fried zucchini appetizer is a must every visit. love this place.

one of my favorite places lately. good quality, mostly fresh, well made good. really cool atmosphere and the the owner is friendly and takes the time to make sure you are taken care of. the stuffed ny strip is my favorite. unexpectedly the pizza is well worth ordering as well. we haven't had a bad meal yet. can get a bit busy at lunch and dinner time, i tend to go just after the rush hours.

it's a bit pricey, but the food is generally good. we tried the fried zucchini and it's the best we've ever had! our waitress was nice and constantly at our table to fill glasses. we didn't have to wait to be seated because it was the middle of the afternoon. nice atmosphere, but i was a little chilly being across from the door.

great lunch. the tuna melt is one of the best around, the roasted red peppers really kick it up. it is worth the drive from southpointe down to washington for lunch.

waited 2 hrs for horrible service. can i give less than 1 star?
we walked in and waited to give our name to the hostess who was whispering behind a menu to a waitress about other customers. when she was done, she took our name and told us it would be about 30 mins. (this was at 7:20 pm) there was another customer there who was complaining she'd been waiting for an hour and a half. when i asked the hostess if that was true, she told me she had a party of 9 and since i was only a party of 2, it wouldn't be near that long.
we proceeded to the bar to wait. bartender was friendly, but when i asked for a drink menu, she suggested we complain to the menu because they didn't have one and she's worked there for years and thought it was ridiculous there wasn't a drink menu.
at 8:40, our table became ready (note this was 1 hr, 20 mins, not 30 mins as estimated).
we were seated and about 10 mins later, we were brought water and bread. i though the person bringing our bread was just a server, not our waitress, but it turns our it was our waitress and although she looked like she was busting her hump trying to wait on all her tables, she never introduced herself nor apologized for our wait. we ordered fried zucchini (after reading other reviews that it was great) and 2 beers. it arrived several mins later and was ok. we then ordered our entrees, which came with a salad, salad was iceberg with a canned beet on top. seriously. at 9:45, our entrees still had not arrived. we walked out. i have never walked out of any establishment before, but i was so disappointing with this lack of service that i refused to wait any longer. (we had a gift card and did leave that to cover the cost of our drinks/appetizer). i can assure you i will not be back and do not recommend this place to anyone. the complete disorganization was unlike anything i've experienced before.

so much love in this food!!. this is hands down the best, not just italian restaraunt, but restaraunt in general located in washigton pa!! linguine arabiatta, stuffed steak, and daily fish specials yyyuuummmmmm!! service is always superb. i grew up here and still cant stay away from this place.

good place to hang out. the kitchen in this place is really good. i haven't had a bad meal and i go about once a month. the decor is outdated and the dessert cooler in the dining room is a little tacky, but then so are the paper place mats. another thing that bothers me is the plastic soufflé cups they serve salad dressing in, placed right on your salad. in addition, the staff is more snobby than friendly.

this is all being nit-picky, of course. they've got a good bar selection and great italian style menu. the food is tasty, it's not inexpensive, but the quality is worth what you pay for. with a little tweaking, this could be a very classy restaurant. as is, it's a nice place to hang out with friends, relax and enjoy good food and drinks.

the spaghetti was very good and came with a lot of mushrooms as an add-on. i really liked the house salad dressing. i was surprised how busy they were at 9:30 on a friday night.

excellent!. i have been here several times now and have never had a bad meal. i usually get the linguini fantasy (hands down best seafood pasta i've had ever, anywhere) or the shrimp and sausage fettucini which has a really unique tomato cream sauce. my boyfriend had the delmonico - huge - and all for such reasonable prices. two meals and appetizer for under $50? for seafood and steak? unbelievable.
