i tried this place last night and thought it was pretty good. i ordered the neptune schnitzel and it included 2 large pieces of schnitzel with baby shrimp and i think it was hollandaise sauce... the red cabbage and spaetzle complemented the schnitzel nicely (i wish there was a bigger helping though). their red cabbage was the best i've tasted in any local german restaurant here and it had a nice vibrant colour. the drink list was pretty varied too and includes a great selection of european and local craft beers. we sat at the patio which was really nice and also heated. i would come back here on another beautiful day and just chill.

on a friend's last night in vancouver for a while, we decided to go to white rock, but couldn't decide on a restaurant. once we got there, we randomly just picked uli's. well it wasn't that random, as i had 3-4 restaurants that i wanted to try, but wasn't sure which to pick. uli's was right infront of my parking spot. upon walking in we saw a local newspaper clipping taped to the wall saying best burger in town. seemed like a cool place. we ordered the perogies and calamari to start. unfortunately they came out fairly cool, actually a little colder than room temperature, not sure if it was because it was really cold outside on that march night… aside from that though the flavours were good. the calamari was airy and light, and not too crispy. the squid was tender. it was fried well, and served with tzatziki sauce. they had some hot chillies to add a bit of spice. would've been better if it came out hot. aside from the cold factor, the perogies were

was very disappointed with our meal. we started with an appetizer of sirloin bites and they came overcooked and rubbery. they were inedible. we sent them back (as did the table beside us seconds earlier) and went for the fried chicken thighs instead. the entrees came before the replacement appetizer. wife opted for mushroom risotto and was suggested to try chicken or shrimp added, she opted for shrimp. the risotto was overcooked and really mushy. the shrimp was just a handful of still cold precooked shrimp, like you’d get from a supermarket deli counter, simply thrown on top. i opted for the fish of the day, which was halibut with quinoa. halibut was dry and overcooked, quinoa was the only redeeming thing in the plate. the fried chicken appie finally came halfway through eating our entrees, so timing wasn’t ideal. flavor was good, but the skin was limp and not crispy at all. the view is amazing, the server did her best and the drinks were good, but for what we paid i expected much better food than what we got. we won’t be returning. the best thing we ate was the mini donuts we got fresh next to the pier after we left.

very unpleasant dining experience, overpriced mediocre tasting food, rude staff, watered down drinks.

i made reservations one month in advance for my boyfriend's birthday, at 6pm on saturday. we arrived on time and one of the servers told us that "our table wasn't ready" and told us to sit in the so called "heated patio". the patio was barely heated, i was shivering and they did nothing to check up on us. they just asked us if we wanted to order drinks. we ordered 2 drinks. my cocktail, the painkiller, tasted very watered down and it was falsely advertised as having 2.5 oz of spirits, however , it tastes more like watered down juice. i was unable to taste any hint of alcohol, and for $14 , i was expecting much more. i then asked the server about our table. our server, the blonde woman, told us that " the reservations before you came in late and so your table isn't ready", in a very condescending tone with an annoyed facial expression. she made it seem like it was my fault that the table was late for their reservations. she then told us that if we ordered the appetizer, that it would "be on us". fine . then we waited  another 30 mins, in the freezing cold and our server finally brought us to our table.

we were seated and we ordered our entrees. the male server (the younger one), delivered our meals and he asked me if "there was anything else i that i needed?". i told him just some more napkins please. he never brought it over. surprise, surprise ! we were ignored the whole night and we even had to flag down our waitress for the bill. all the servers were inattentive, except for the water person, who did a good job topping off our water. all the other staff made us feel like we were unwanted there. our server and the man who sat us outside were unwelcoming, unfriendly and distant . when i paid, our server asked if i was going to use card, i said yes. i paid for my bill using my debit card, but the waitress was standing right beside me, while i was punching in my numbers the whole entire time,  which i thought was both strange and rude, and it felt like she was invading my privacy.

my forester schnitzel was a huge portion, but it was virtually tasteless and chewy, it was not tender at all. the pork needed more salt and something acidic. the mashed potatoes was although creamy, was very bland tasting. the best part of the dish was the red cabbage.

i was expecting more, since they have been in business for more than 30 years along the white rock strip. i understand that restaurants now have to take extra time and precautions to clean and sanitize, which i totally understand and i am fine about, but to wait for 30 mins for a confirmed reservation is ridiculous. the food and drinks were overpriced and mediocre tasting. servers were inattentive and rude. there are far better restaurants out there. so much for supporting local.  avoid this place!

food is great. service not so much. got seated and right off the bat, the 4 of us started out with 2 side plates and 2 napkins. not sure if the server doesn't recognize that our kids need napkins too (issue #1). whatever.. next comes our order. paella sounds great but $40 is a bit steep for lunch for one person. we order and the server asked if we wanted the paella for 1 or 2. we weren't aware that there was an option for 2 so that should have triggered a bit of explanation from the server. pricing wasn't anywhere to be found and she did not volunteer this piece of information (issue #2). i'm not sure why. we ended up having to ask her the price shortly after we placed or order so we don't encounter any surprises. $52. reasonable enough. next comes our kids meals. both were served with frites. though there were options for steak fries and salad. neither of which, our server asked us about (issue #3). i only realized it when i over heard the table behind us being asked by a different server. regardless the kids love the frites. when the kids meals came, the fork got knocked off the table. the server saw this and exclaimed verbally but didn't bother offering a replacement fork (issue #4). paella came. wow, quite large and great for 2. midway through our meal our server decided to take our condiments away (issue #5). who does that?! we're in the middle of eating the frites and there was ketchup on the plate. i have no idea why she would do this... the kids shouldn't be eating so much ketchup anyway. my last complaint was that there was a hair in our paella (issue #6). we already finished 3/4 of it and we're not the type to complain about something small. i'm not interested in lame excuses by the restaurant or making it seem like we're trying to con them for a free $52 meal after finishing 3/4s of it. so whatever. i've seen worse.. we still packed up the remaining rice. i highly doubt i'll be coming back.

ordered a burger and schnitzel for late lunch. both tasted good. though little pricey and presentation of both dishes were not good enough, taste of food was the most important element to be considered!

it’s been years since i’ve been to white rock and the only thing that i could remember was the big hills leading down to the beach and the fact that the actual “rock” which the city gets their name from is painted white. after a jaunt along the boardwalk, we walked up and down marine drive looking for a place to eat until we arrived at uli’s. we wound up ordering the oysters rockefeller ($4.50 each) which is prepared with creamed spinach, grana padano cheese, and hollandaise sauce. while extremely cheesy, it’s not a strong/hard cheese so it goes well with the delicate oyster.

it is pretty expensive at $19 for a burger, so it should be really good.  the burger is good.  not sure it justifies the price, but okay, at least it's good.  the bigger issue here is the service.  very nice servers, so not faulting them, as such, but there is something about the way the place is managed because it took 90 minutes from sitting down before our burgers arrived.  that time is absurd and guess what, it's not the first time this has happened!

on top of that, the server took our drink orders, but there were six of us and she took the order for the four near her and then left, not even asking about what the other two wanted.  that was strange.  when my beer arrived, after about 15 minutes, it was not the beer i ordered.  not a big deal in itself because they changed it quickly, but part of the whole confusion and long wait.

when we finally got our burgers, we got an apology and free dessert.  that was a really nice gesture and much appreciated, but really, i would just rather get the burger a little sooner. i mean, at $19 it should be good and it should be served a little quicker.  reading other reviews, i'm not the only one this has happened to so i hope uli's will get it together because it is a nice place.

the food here is alright if you're going in knowing you're paying above average prices. the service there was not good. taking our order took about 20 minutes because 2 of the waitresses were literally hired to pour water and nothing else. the real waitress that took our order only had to remember two dishes and managed to get one of them wrong.

i ordered a crab cake egg benedict but got a salmon one. it was alright, sauce was a bit overwhelming. my girlfriend got a german breakfast. do not order anything that says beef and brine on it...you will literally get a slice of spam for $13+.

this used to be one of my favourite restaurants, but my last two meals here have been incredibly disappointing. the food and service are great when the owner is there. when he's not it's quite lackluster. the worst meal i had was one of their beer pairing dinners. they tell you to be there early then made us wait an hour and a half for it to start. no apologies or explanations. the food ranged from okay to almost inedible. the portions were tiny and combined with the beginning wait and the long wait in between dishes we were starving by the time it was over. i may never go back.

if you are looking for consistently good food, good service and a good experience - head to uli's. when it comes to beach front restaurants in white rock they really have it all: a great view of the pier and ocean, plus an amazingly run business that i have never been disappointed by.

as a local who eats often at the beach, uli's is very frequently visited by us, and i am pleased to say that this restaurant never disappoints to live up to my expectations. whether it is an extremely busy summer day or a nearly empty winter afternoon they make customers a priority. they handle large groups and families with children as well.

food wise i think they again are consistently fantastic. their burgers (veggie burger included) are amazing and i have never met a single person who doesn't like them. also great fries, and appies. every part of their menu is classic: simply delicious.

everyone is extremely flexible with meal adjustments and they are very helpful when it comes to accommodating allergies. gf. vegetarian, vegan, dairy free, you name it: and they are happy to provide what you need.

always helpful, friendly and efficient staff, and my #1 recommendation for a beach restaurant in white rock.

a good restaurant. however recent changes in the kitchen have compromised food quality and prices seem to have been bumped up. still good just used to be great.

the only year-round, reliably-good brunch, lunch, and dinner with a view on west beach, in the non-ethnic category (cosmos and don asian kitchen are the keepers in the ethnic category). just forgive them for not having an espresso bar... instead, pick up your breve latte at small ritual on the way. i give it a 4.5.

i see you've converted back to your uncle ben's minute rice for the paella? the awful amount of turmeric for the yellowing of the rice instead of using saffron was a travesty. for a classic peasant dish, the price sure wasn't peasant-friendly. and i noticed you don't list any of the shell fish in your dish so it makes an easy excuse to cheap out and throw leftovers in. disappointing and uninspiring. i see how you stay afloat with your ridiculous prices on your alcoholic beverages. $9 for a mimosa... insulting. sunny d and baby duck doesn't cost that much.
